Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
76

How Brian Eno let this happen will forever be a mystery.
If I had to describe this album with one word, it would be saturated. It's the audio equivalent of looking at overly saturated stock images of mountain views.
The production is so overdone that Coldplay is almost dipping into noise-pop. It is kind of interesting to listen to tho. When done intentionally, a full production style can work really well (f.e. shoegaze), but Coldplay find themselves in this uncanny valley of ... read more

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food
93

Pleasently suprised by how consistent this album is. Might be their most consistent project ever. Every track is entertaining and enjoyable. Absoluetly check this one out!

Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA
86

Tyler keeps his streak of great album releases. Really like the introspective songs on here, and the bangers are also still banging. My biggest complaint lies with the hooks, which are overall weaker than his prior works. Still would heavily reccomend this album.

Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
75

Many people have described this album as a vibe. It is however a pretty substanceless vibe. There are some great tracks here, but nothing truly special. Still a vibe tho.

Justice - †
86

It's difficult to admit, but sometimes French people do go pretty hard.

Peter Fox - Stadtaffe
82

Really interesting German rap album with classical and dancehall influences. Absolutely iconic, if a bit flawed.

Ween - The Mollusk
89

Cool trippy psychedelic rock album, with some nice humor and sea themes thrown in. Still prefer Quebec, but The Mollusk still offers some of Ween's best tracks. Also, Ocean Man is obviously a masterpiece.

Mac Miller - Circles
89

Devestating and beautiful. The production is perfect, Mac's vocals are really intimate and carry a ton of emotional weight. Some of the compositions could've been a bit more daring. Besides that one nitpick this album is fantatsic. Good News also made me cry once so which has to count for something.

Xiu Xiu - 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips
72

Not super familiar with Xiu Xiu at all. Heard some stuff here and there, but overall not anything for me. Heard this was their most accessible project, so I checked it out. Quite enjoyed the more straightforward rock tracks, could care less for the ambient and purely experimental ones. The vocals are overall also a bit too breathy for my taste. Still an interesting listen.

Geordie Greep - The New Sound
92

Really fun and jazzy debut project from former black midi frontman Greep. The New Sound offers an interesting combination of early 70's prog rock with Latin Rock influences. Greep's vocals and lyrics are still entertainingly weird and one of a kind. My main issue however is the aimlessness of some tracks. Still a really great album.

SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
76

(Score 67 -> 76)

Still think some of the bridges on this album are unnecessary and that the vocals aren't that good, but the production is just way too good to put it in the yellow. Ponyboy still hurts my ears tho...

Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues
92

Starts strong, ends strong. Really fun and quirky album, probably their most fun and quirkiest one. Deep cuts are overall weaker than other Talking Heads albums, but the peaks are still peaking as high as their previous two works.

Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
96

Me like when the music is like uh good.

My most intelligent review so far wow...

Steve Reich and Musicians - Music for 18 Musicians
84

I don't listen to classical music like ever, and I'm quite bewildered by the unique sound here. If there's anything that I can concretely compliment here, it's the recording quality and production. Absolutely mind-blowing for 1978.

King Crimson - Red
87

Really cool Prog album with some nice heavier elements. Fantastic playing and great riffs. My main complaints are the somewhat underbaked compositions (exept for Starless of course) and the pretty basic production (compared to contemporaries at the time): good but nothing mindblowing.

Underworld - Second Toughest in the Infants
88

Really awesome and quite diverse techno album. The first track is obviously the best, and the last three obviously the least good. I overall preferred it to Dubnobasswithmyheadman, as this album felt alot more spacious, which is a production choice I prefer over the directness of the other one. Would reccomend.

Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain
90

Absolutely insane riffs and mindblowing drums. Sounds like a fucked up overstimulating theme park. Incredible fun album, if a tad bit repetitive.

The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike
85

One of the cutest and most fun albums ever made. While the mixing is a bit flat, the compositions are really awesome. I even recognized some of the songs, which was a nice suprise. The biggest highlight for me was Junior Kickstart. Those horns man, fantastic!

The Smile - Foreign Spies / Zero Sum
100

*dances aggressively*

(score for Zero Sum btw, couldnt care less for Foreign Spies)

The Field - From Here We Go Sublime
84

Really pleasent and nice techno/house album. Perhaps a bit on the repetitive and lengthy side, but the two track punch of Everyday and Silent make up for it.
