The Alestorm formula remains intact of scrumptious folk bullshit and Chris Bowes singing about being a pirate n shit. It was cool the first time and no surprise it's cool the 8th time. I was gonna write a half serious review but then I realized it's Alestorm and who cares.

While overall not a bad album, the songwriting lacks refinement and feels pretty repetitive. Some songs (like Zombie Walk and No More) feel like they just wrote a catchy pop hook and hastily wrote the rest of the song around it. The best songs fully embrace their pop and psychobilly songwriting (More Brains, Hell 'n Back), as The Brains are better pop songwriters than they are punk rock songwriters.

I'm a big THD fan. City Dressed in Dynamite is a solid top 15 album for me and they're consistently good past that but this album doesn't do much for me. Godforbid and Takamoto sounds just as good as ever but the direction in sound is not it. Jeremy Page wanted to go this electro-punk industrial, whatever the fuck, but it just doesn't work for THD. The best songs here are the ones that stray away from that sound (I.E. Crooked Heart, Gravity of the Situation) but some others ... read more
