"But I still think, people think of us as a very drug orientated group.
'Course we're not. You can trust us. :) " -David Gilmour, 1972
The album only really suffers from the preachy lyrics of "After Forever". Incredible songs with so many tasty riffs and melodies; they're just incredibly fun to listen to. It's a short, yet incredibly sweet bopper of an album, my favorite Sabbath album so far.
TPAB B-sides does not an album make... or does it? Nah, it definitely does. It's not grand, but it isn't supposed to be. Some songs are clearly left unfinished, or maybe just missing the final touches. Most of the songs, apart from untitled 1, 4 and 7, are finished, but weren't included in TPAB for various reasons.
Don't expect a concept album, it's a compilation of TPAB era songs that otherwise wouldn't have had a place on future albums. With that in mind, this ... read more
Fun cartoony bop front to back. DOOM's writing is amazing, his flow sick. Danger Doom's production and sampling top notch, the beats, the instrumentals sublime. Only couple tracks I don't mess with are Vats of Urine and Bada Bing, but they don't really take you out of the album (plus they're 2 of the last three tracks anyway).
On a retrospective look of this album, and Obscured By Clouds as well, you can see that it showcases a lot of ideas that would bear fruit on future releases. Overall, it's a good album and a very nice listen: it's ambitious in its longer tracks, sweet and grounded in its shorter ones.
The title track is grandiose and beautiful, with lots of experimentation taking place throughout. It stands on its own two feet when compared to the group's other long medleys and tracks, a la an ... read more
Unfortunately About Face is a mixed bag, offering wonderful songs in Love on The Air, Blue Light, You Know I'm Right, Let's Get Metaphysical yet also delivering painfully uninspired songs like Out of the Blue, All Lovers Are Deranged and even unintentionally funny ones in Cruise.
It's just... meh...
Definitely a stark improvement from their last album, with a much more trademark "Floyd" sound and a thematic focus. The first half of this album is simply incredible, "What Do You Want from Me" and "Marooned" specifically are fascinating tracks. While I initially didn't really care for the beginning of the second side (and also Lost for Words), they definitely grew on me more on repeat listens (still kinda underwhelmed by Take It Back though). Strong ending ... read more
It's by no means a bad Pink Floyd record, but it's barely a Pink Floyd record to begin with. Very heavy 80s/Gilmour influenced tracks that lack a writing punch. You really appreciate how much Waters did for the band in that department. While the subsequent album The Division Bell does remedy this problem, this remains a limitation for this album.
The song order is also kinda weird leading to a lot of whiplash going from song to song. The album overall though is still decent. A lot ... read more
The only flaw of this EP is just that, that it's an EP and not a full album. The songs are amazing and unique, the basslines in the songs are insane. wowaka's writing shines through not just with the lyrics but also the titles for the songs as well.
The central theme of the album is of course love, but every song covers it from a different angle, a different situation.
Not much else to say, banger songs, banger lyrics. No notes

TL;DR It ranges from okay to meh to passable, generally feels watered down. It felt like the "punchy" improvements in the remix removed parts of the album that actually gave it it's punch.
The Animals Remix/Reissue, engineered by James Guthrie and pushed to release by Roger Waters, was quite an intriguing listen. It's also quite an interesting album to rate. This rating is more about the sonic changes that the album underwent with this remix, than the songs and their topics ... read more
The only nitpick I have with this album is the sermon in the song Sheep, which only lasts for 15 seconds. 15 seconds. Out of 41 minutes of perfection.
