I'm going to be completely honest, I kind of forgot that Björk was from Iceland... Homogenic probably should've jogged my memory a bit, seeing as how icy that album sounded - but I think Vespertine is a perfect encapsulation of that influence, as well as being the shining example of Björk's tremendous artistry. The intended effect of a Björk project is probably to be awe-inspired and to be generally left in a state of happy disarray as you marvel at the feat in ... read more
Out of chronological order for the Leon Thomas discography deep dive'; but that's alright... my OCD isn't acting up or anything at that thought (just kidding, I couldn't care less). I'm only going to say this once (mainly because it's a very strange sentence to be saying in the big 2026), but Leon Thomas really should have taken a book out a K-pop group's book, and just released a 'Remix EP'... because I really don't need to be listening to ... read more
As a general rule, I like to go chronologically with these discography reviews, but at this moment, I just have more to say about Leon Thomas's most recent EP 'PHOLKS' (I listened to this and the deluxe b-side addon for MUTT on my walk home today). This project shows that Thomas can excel in multiple different lanes of R&B music; pulling influences from 70s funk, 80s disco, 90s slow-paed sultry crooning and the more recent indie-rock infusion (like a Mk.gee). There are a lot ... read more
I'll say it again: Nickelodeon child star to in-form Grammy winning aritst is an absolutely unfathomable transformation. I don;t put all that much stock into what wins a Grammy and what doesn't (because I'm convinced those people are either deaf or extremely stupid... or both), but it is something that sits in the recesses of my mind when I'm listening to an album or artist with that sort of acclaim. I don't know if MUTT reaches the heights it was elevated to by his ... read more
I think from the quality of those three features alone, you can gauge how serious Leon Thomas is about music; pulling a Benny The Butcher feature (especially on an R&B song) is some ball knowledge and getting Victoria Monet amidst her prime is also a massive feat (she put out Grammy-winning material in this same year). I can definitely see that 5-years away in furtherance of his music career, Thomas has done a lot in cementing the direction he wants his music to take and the defining parts ... read more
What kind of pipeline is child actor to a Grammy-winning artist: Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and now Leon Thomas; I didn't have Nick or Disney when I was a kid, but I'm guessing this guy's music is a whole lot better than his acting. On 'Genesis', his debut EP, he gets off to a pretty solid start with some very simple R&B production (I like the use of keys and the fact that the go-to R&B synths are overdone). It feels like Thomas is ... read more
