Never let them know your next album.
So here it is. Every moment where Vince's artistic ability has shined had led up to this. It was expected that this would be his best album, since he had pretty much squeezed out every ounce of geniusness in his music and learned everything he needs to know. While writing this I realized this is starting to sound a lot like the Avatar storyline, the last musicbender. Anyway I'm steering off track. Wait this motherfucker made post-punk? Mixed with ... read more
This is like Ramona Park but better, and I already love Ramona Park. Does it have When Sparks Fly? No. But it still has its stuff. Love it!
Most underrated Vince Staples album. So what if he's not going crazy on the experimentation. Stop expecting artists to do the same thing again as if that's the only thing that they're capable of. There's actually some insane lyricism and production here.
When Sparks Fly is a top 3 Vince Staples song. It's a perfect blend of lyricism, beat-making, and flows where all of them work together to create a masterpiece rather than overshadowing one another. The song is ... read more
I mean it ain't the most outgoing and crazy thing Vince has done but all the songs are hittin' so idk what more y'all expect.
It's jumpy and catchy, not something I'll go back to every day but a release like this makes sense after he released BFT. Also I love the cover it's like where's Waldo. Try to find the arm from under the sand holding a firearm.
Why did I just find out about Willie Colón now AFTER he died?! This is incredible. The title track might be the most beautiful and straight ear pleasing song ever made.
Alright, enough fucking around, we're reviewing Big Fish Theory now, the biggest and most defining Vince Staples album. The album that had Drake fans and death Grips fans trembling from the realization that both their different, but hugely white fanbases might perish after hearing the 4 dimensional sounding album Big Fish Theory.
But you might be thinking. Drake and Death grips? Those are polar opposites, they're literally opposite sides of the spectrum(white rap). How could an album ... read more
It's like super interesting and bold until you get a couple songs into the 2nd disc and fall asleep.
I didn't think I'd review this since it's just a compilation of singles and I don't review singles, but MagBay has been feeding us so fucking good lately I just had to review it.
My one big question is, WHY ISN'T MAGDALENA BAY MAINSTREAM YET. She's outgoing but still pretty mass appeal, super talented and consistent, and she's not problematic. Just for her possible soon-to-be biggest song to be Killshot(Slowed+Reverb),
twats.
But I guess you do need a pretty ... read more
This album is literally playing good cop bad cop with Loveless by My Bloody Valentine.
I feel like this is some deep ear-cleansing procedure like yes Cameron please bless me with the holy spirit of whatever the fuck this is supposed to be.
You know the album's gonna be fire when it's alt-rock and made by a decently large group of college students.
Y'know, everytime I listen to Mac Miller, I can never stop. It might be midnight, and I'm trying to fall asleep while listening to music. I put on one Mac Miller song, and poof, that's all I'm listening to for the rest of the night. I might try to turn on something else, but there's something about Mac's music that puts you in a zone you don't wanna escape. It's like you're being put in a small world(reference, also best song on the album) filled ... read more
I mean they promised flying cars but I guess this is a close second.
I wonder when people will realize that hyperpop WILL infact define the 2020s decade.
Yes, BRAT is inconsistent, Club Classics is laughable, but pushing hyperpop boundaries AND becoming like the most influential and impactful album of this decade just proves everything. But this is one of those albums that will be known for its highs and strong points rather than its consistency or replayability. I mostly just go back to Von Dutch.
Three Man Weave is incredible. Oh yeah and the rest of the album? Yeahhh y'know it's good. Good features. Good, good Injury Reserve album. Three Man Weave tho🤩
I mean it doesn't get much more Vince Staples than this. "Hi guys, I'm Vince Staples" typa album.
