Sub Focus - It's Time
66

66 • not something you would expect

Man, the likes/dislikes ratio (3.5k to 640) is insane, the tune doesn't deserve it.
Sub Focus did some experiments on this track, precisely on a weirder, funkier approach. It may not be for everything (as shown on the L/D ratio) but it's honestly decent
The first drop is funky yet disjointed, not to mention Gene Farris' contribution to this which only highlights that feel even more.
The 2nd drop is more cohesive but still has that same feel as the 1st ... read more

CAN YOU HEAR THE VOICE TALKING IN YOUR HEADDD CAN YOU HEAR THE VOICE TALKING IN YOUR HEA-D-D D D D

*insert neurofunk drop*

jokes aside this tune goes hard, especially the halftime 2nd drop

Mazare - Dreams Only Last For A Night

75 • cool ep ngl

pop punk and dnb are a cool combo for fr

Sharks - Shattering / Shadows
69

69 • crunchy and colorful singles, mmm

ong shadows w/ sora has a nice, is that jump-up with colored bass? why is it so short 😭

Chime - Aetherborne
85

85 • a very wild and dreamy concept album

. - | • :)
A quest to become something beyond human and to find peace in the aether.

Chime is one of the artists I listen to when I was still on my dubstep phase, along with Teminite. When I heard about the debut album, I added it on my bucket list because why not.
I listened to this initially on an album stream and it's one of my beloved moments. The vibes are beautiful. and yes, this album did impressed me as well. It's surprisingly ... read more

Harriet Jaxxon - Story Of Women
42

42 • what is this?

edit: nope, can't stand the vibe that much, especially the title - doesn't make sense at all. Dropped the rating from 55 to 42.

"This is the story of women who have music in their heads, of radical sounds. This is the story of dreams enabled by technology."
I have no idea what the hell is going on here. The "aaacciiddddd" vocals and the barebones beat ain't helping me uncover the story as well.

NGL this tune sounds so sleek though, especially the ... read more

MYKOOL - Aura
65

65 • A wild and adventurous dancefloor dnb album.
Starts out hard for the first few tracks but gets melancholy as the album goes on. Sometimes, the energy can get a little unpredictable at times, like the transition from I Miss You to Akuma for example.

This album has strong Metrik vibes (especially the album Ex Machina), but at the same time it's different from Metrik.
I can't help the similarities as both of them sing on their original songs as well. This and Ex Machina share some ... read more

TiΓ«sto - DRIVE
70

70 • It comes, it drives, it goes.
(quote inspired by Ultimate LifeFrm, sorry.)

ong lea reviewed something that isn't dnb after a while πŸ‘€. this review is a first impression of the album

You see that album cover and title? The tunes all sound like that - and all of them share the same thing in common, they drive. they slide, they have big poppy boom boom energy

yes it can feels cheesy and monotonous at times, but that's always the case with mainstream EDM. Tiësto is one of the ... read more

Camo & Krooked & Mefjus - Break Away (Secula Remix)
83

83 • zamn

An underground producer remixes one of the most interesting dnb tunes of 2022 (might be exaggerating), and manages to put their own style while not ruining the original. πŸ‘

Alan Walker - Dreamer
60

60 • dreamy... I guess.

Alan Walker is back on NCS, This is not a drill.
This is not a drill.

Dreamer has the same vibe with the new Teminite single, but this time with cheesier melodies and non-existent buildup. (and oh, not to mention it's short, it's 2 and a half minutes long). On the positive side, the drop is quite groovy.

BUT - this tune manifests something most NCS fans hold into - the nostalgia. There's that weird feeling of an old Alan Walker tune been used in various YouTube ... read more

Teminite - Zero
83

83 • ⚑ πŸŽ‰

Teminite has entered 2023 with a fun, high-octane dancefloor tune after 193959 years of waiting (actually one).
Sam's new single, Zero, was named because he has zero releases last year. In context last release was his pirate-themed album, Raise The Black Flag, was on December 2021.

The track starts with a clock ticking. Time passes by, and the wait is over.
The track goes full on party mode with vibrant synths circling the listener. It goes again and again while adding ... read more

Alohaii - Virtual Paradise
82

82 • summer went too early

Lone alpha's 2nd album, Virtual Paradise, takes us to the light, carefree world full of collaborations and bubbles. Each tune on the album is guaranteed to captivate the listener in different ways. It can be something danceable and vibey like let me dance and lovesick loop or something downtempo like Flourish.
One of the favorite new finds for this week for sure - might spark my love for kawaii edm again

favorite tracks:
let me dance

Absu_NTQL - Chop It / To The Floor
74

74 • double smashers

Maybe I did not enjoy the first tune that much, but the other tune with Zigi SC goes hard ngl.
On the track To The Floor, it's unpredictable on the first listen, making the listener feel confused on what's happening on. AND at the same time delivers that chaotic energy that is guaranteed to get someone "to the floor".

I'm bad at making puns

Grafix - Half Life
80

80 • pretty good dancefloor dnb album

Just a short statement: this record is pretty solid throughout, with almost no bad tracks in it. Not to mention tracks like Somewhere, Skyline and CTRL are pretty well-made (let's ignore the lyrics on Skyline, ok?)

Camo & Krooked - No Way Out
98

98 • work of art

This song has:
• haunting yet comforting vocals
• smooth, somewhat rigid drumwork
• signature camo & krooked synths

yep, this explains why this is one of my top songs for 2022...

More Plastic - Traveler
77

77 • πŸš€

I don't know how to explain this, but this sounds badass and carefree at the same time. Kinda wants me to control a ship while blastin' some monsters

Klinical - Forbidden / Glowback
61

61 • uhh ok?

Klinical back on Critical with a double single. ;)
I like the vibes on Forbidden, but I felt like there's not enough substance for me to listen to on repeat.
Glowback is more on the lighter side. This felt somewhat better than the other track, mostly because of the groove. The vocals chops were added a bit too much though.

P.S: the cover looks liminal and trippy. There's a flipped roadside at the top, a cafe at the bottom left and honestly don't know what's at the right.

The Upbeats - One Sound
76

76 • 🐺 🐍

The Upbeats' newer releases goes for a different, experimental approach. Their latest album, Not Forever, shows that everything needs to change - it doesn't last forever.
also, The Downbeats much? ok I'm bad at making puns :((

The title track One Sound has a relatively long intro, but it's worth it once you get into the drop. It is indeed as smooth as butter. Walls Down goes for a more downtempo approach. The lush chords combined with Levine Lale's vocals is gorgeous. ... read more

Enei - Humans
79

79 • a set of deep, dark bangers

One of the albums that is solid all across, no dogwater tracks, no timeless masterpiece either. I can't pick a favorite here, but I would go for acid shot or show me

Raiser, Zeal & Coppa - Pipebomb

50 • what?

track went from 0 to 100 real quick
