21 Savage - american dream
75

21 loses focus at points in the album, but it's entertaining throughout and there are some great lyrical points. The sampling is also phenomenal, and the features (minus Lil Durk) are great.

FAVORITE TRACKS: american dream, all of me, redrum, n.h.i.e, letter to my brudda, prove it, should've wore a bonnet, just like me, red sky, dark days
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: dangerous

Post Malone - AUSTIN
50

I think Post Malone has lost sight of what made his earlier music so good and popular. Albums like "Stoney" and "beerbongs & bentleys" had heart and meticulous production. This album lacks both in many respects. While not abhorrent in any way, plenty of the songs are just bland background music. The production is generic and stale, and the vocals are not compelling enough to overcome that hurdle. There are a few highlights that I keep coming back to though.

Travis Scott - UTOPIA
85

Exactly what I wanted to hear from Travis. Utopia is essentially the culmination of his past work but revamped and refined with years of experience. The features are all amazing (especially Carti, The Weeknd, Future, SZA, and Westside Gunn). Love the Yeezus feel to a lot of the tracks and, since he played such a major role in Yeezus, it doesn’t feel derivative. Also, the sequencing on this album is incredible, and it might be his most cohesive project yet (with the notable exception of ... read more

Daniel Caesar - NEVER ENOUGH

Such a disappointment.

Lil Uzi Vert - Pink Tape
75

I like the experimentation on this album and most of the typical Uzi songs that are on it too, but it really should have been a double album. The first half should have been the more rage/punk songs, and the second half should have been the more familiar songs we are used to hearing from Uzi. As it stands right now, the sequencing makes for a messy, but still enjoyable, listen.

Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!

Iconic. Cultural reset. Instant classic. A magnum opus. Lana Del Rey outdoes herself by a thousand miles. This album is absolutely beautiful.

FAVORITE TRACKS: Norman Fucking Rockwell, Mariners Apartment Complex, Venice Bitch, Fuck it I love you, Doin' Time, Love song, Cinnamon Girl, California, The greatest, The Next Best American record, Bartender, Happiness is a butterfly, hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have

Lana Del Rey - Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
98

Her best album yet. Lana just doesn't miss. She continues to be THE singer-songwriter of the century. Her vocals on this album are absolutely beautiful, and the lyrics are wonderful, thought-provoking, and heartbreaking. Her themes of family life and desperation for life come through so clearly. Though at times it may be emotionally devastating, it maintains its beauty throughout.

I love how she uses a variety of different styles and production on this album. The difference between tracks like ... read more

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
88

LIL YACHTY HAS NO RIGHT MAKING AN ALBUM THIS GOOD. This is amazing from start to finish, a psychedelic trip. A perfect example of an artist changing up their style and doing it flawlessly.

SZA - SOS
78

Definitely worth the 5 year wait. I like how SZA experimented a bit with new sounds on this project and shined lyrically. While the subject matter of the album is nothing new for music, her approach to relationships is very fresh and interesting. She's also improved her vocals even more, and they're often the highlight of the album. There are also plenty of hits on here too like Kill Bill and Low. There are some songs that don't feel necessary, but there aren't really any bad songs.

Metro Boomin - HEROES & VILLAINS
80

Leave it to Metro Boomin' to bring back the iconic sounds of 2014-2018 trap music. This album sounds even more mature than his prior projects and is very well polished. He mostly sticks to the same artists with whom he is comfortable working, but if it sounds good it sounds good.

Weyes Blood - And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow
85

SHE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS (making the most elegant pop music to ever grace my ears). Following her masterpiece Titanic Rising, it is difficult to imagine a Weyes Blood album that could possibly disappoint me, and this album was no exception. Natalie has the most beautiful voice of virtually any artist, and she pairs it with such stunning instrumentation. She could basically sing any lyrics and they would sound incredible. "God Turn Me Into a Flower" also may be the most ... read more

Drake & 21 Savage - Her Loss
70

Drake's best album in years. It's definitely not perfect, and a great deal of the lyrics are very questionable. However, Drake's rapping is much less lifeless than usual, and the beats are often great.

FAVORITE TRACKS: Rich Flex, Major Distribution, On BS, BackOutsideBoyz, Spin Bout You, Circo Loco, Pussy & Millions, Middle of the Ocean, More M's
LEAST FAVORITE TRACKS: Hours in Silence

Kid Cudi - Entergalactic
40

To quote Jim Carey on Dawn FM, "a total comatose snoozefest." Kid Cudi sounds so uninspired on this album, and it really shows. I liked MOTM3 but not nearly as much as most people. But this album really makes me appreciate that album so much more.

FAVORITE TRACKS: Willing to Trust, Maybe So (for the amazing strings section), Don Toliver's verse on Somewhere to Fly
LEAST FAVORITE TRACKS: Everything else

Just such a fun listen.

FAVORITE TRACKS: ALIEN SUPERSTAR, CHURCH GIRL, PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA, VIRGO'S GROOVE, ALL UP IN YOUR MIND, AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM, PURE/HONEY
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: ENERGY (still good though)

JID - The Forever Story
88

I was never much of a JID fan before this album came out. I thought he had a lot of raw talent, but his music never did much for me. This album absolutely blew me away from the first listen. the production is immaculate, JID's constant flow switches are so seamless that they're often hardly noticeable, his lyricism is incredibly strong, and even his singing is great. I love the additions of choir vocals and strings (two things that win me over 100% of the time). The album is such a beautiful ... read more

Lupe Fiasco - DRILL MUSIC IN ZION

On DRILL MUSIC IN ZION, Lupe Fiasco delivers thoughtful lyricism over very casual, easy listening beats. It's a great album for an active or passive listen.

FAVORITE TRACKS: THE LION'S DEEN, AUTOBOTO, PRECIOUS THINGS, KIOSK, MS. MURAL, NAOMI, DRILL MUSIC IN ZION, ON FAUX NEM
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: SEATTLE (not even bad, just the least impressive)

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
93

Though it may not be full of bangers like his previous albums, this is probably Kendrick's most vulnerable album to date. The production is incredible, and Kendrick clearly has not lost his skill for storytelling. Thoroughly enjoyed this album, especially upon my relistens. I will most definitely update the review/score once I've heard it more, but this is a great release from Kendrick. Glad to see the GOAT hasn't lost his touch.

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: FOR A NUT

Jack Harlow - Come Home The Kids Miss You
35

Jack Harlow is a nice guy, but I would be lying if I said he could make a great album. He has zero things to rap about, picks elevator music style beats, and doesn't switch up his flows nearly enough to make anything about this interesting. I am not interested whatsoever in anything he has to say because he's just rapping the whole time about meaningless nonsense. I can tolerate meaningless lyrics if they're backed by interesting production or flows or SOMETHING. But there is absolutely nothing ... read more

Omar Apollo - Ivory
85

A fantastic, genre-ending album that details relationship struggles in Omar Apollo's life. This album is very cohesive while also delving into a number of different genres. His voice is also quite compelling and expressive. I hope to see Omar Apollo's career pop off in the future because you can tell he put his heart and soul into this album. I'm very glad I discovered "Invincible" when it released because it turned me into an instant fan. Excited to see where he goes next.
