I know many view this as opeths greatest album but imo it's #4
For me, bleak is where the album really shines. So emotional and just amazing. Tracks like The Funeral Portrait and Blackwater park are also awesome; Harvest,Drapery Falls and Dirge For November being good with leper affinity last imo.
This album is such a grower, but it is awesome.
It's incredibly disjointed and the most progressive thing I've ever heard tbh. Bluesy riffs, classical orchestral moments, death metal moments mixed with other influences from other genres. It is a melting pot of everything opeth has done.
Personally I think they mixed all their influences very well and this album feels like their Magnum opus because of that. Obviously we will see where they go next but this may be the most opeth ... read more
I liked it! The atmosphere is good and the vibes are good too lol. There are plenty of good riffs, my favourite being the riff at the end of nectar and beginning of advent. I find it hard to separate the tracks from memory despite enjoying the album, but I've listened to Advent a few times before so I'll say that's the best song on the album. To bid you farewell is especially good too
This was my first opeth album over a month ago in February and this album made me obsessed with opeth. I adored it for two weeks however began to fall out with it, but revisited it today with listening to the majority of other opeth albums and OMG ITS AMAZING.
Wreath has always been a weak opener and I didn't listen to it today however with a new pair of headphones I listened to the rest of the album. It's an easy 6/10.
Deliverance deserves it's popularity; it's the perfect ... read more
Very strong opeth album! It is opeths most sorrowful album and definitely one that should be played on rainy days.
I've listened to this album a dozen times and it has never lost its magic. I feel that weakness is a skippable track at the end and I never really liked it anyways, however the rest of the album is amazing.
My personal fav is closure for its unique sound that I believe sounds almost middle easterny?
One important thing I found about this album is that it is a GROWER. I did not like this album nearly as much upon the first listen but it has grown on me so much.
Ghost of Perdition: Millions have been jumpscared by this opening lmao but it is a really good song that showcases opeths contrast in all it's glory. Not much bad to say apart from a weaker ending in my opinion.
Baying of the Hounds: MY FAVOURITE AAA. Such a good song and I love how it gets the album going with a fun and ... read more
Such a good album. I think it's well paced and I absolutely ADORE the contrast between clean and heavy sections. Both of them include riffs that make me ascend to heaven/descend to hell (both in a good way).
I can't even decide my favourite but it definitely gets better as the album goes on
Just took a first full listen of this album and my god it is a good album. I never felt bored when listening to it which is honestly rare as a lot of albums do have their (largely brief) moments of feeling slightly too repetitive in their sound.
The best parts of this album is definitely the riffs. MY GOD they are delicious. Refuse/Resist has my favourite riffs of all time but the rest of the album is littered with scrumptious riffs too.
I like the vocals here too, at least compared to ... read more
Amazing album just has two tracks, quest for fire and 'sun and Steel' that are pretty skippable. However, this doesn't diminish the rating much because it ends on a high note with To Tame A Land
At Dawn They Sleep is one of the best Slayer songs imo. It has such a strong intensity that I rarely see in metal, especially towards the final verse.
This is another great album by Death! It gets sidelined a lot, however there are quite a bit of Spiritual Healing fans (who has it as their favourite album) online and my personal view is that it is a very consistent, approachable and easy going album from death that deserves no hate whatsoever. I believe that Genetic Reconstruction is the "worst" track, however that is mostly because it sounds similar to previous tracks without appealing stand alone features
Like in Human, the first track opens with a drum beat. The first track quickly demonstrates just how progressive this album was compared to previous albums with it's insane number of riffs per song (up to 8 I believe?!). The rest of the album has consistently great songs and even has a beautiful instrumental (Voice of the Soul)
Insanely good album! Online, you can see people listing some songs of this album, like 1,000 eyes, as the worst. However, some others then list that as the best of this album. It's a common theme throughout this album and I think it just shows how this album does not produce an objectively bad song; they all have their own fans.
Given a couple months, I actually find this album quite boring now to be honest. It's always going to be the repetitive ABCABC song structure that makes it ... read more
Even though I don't like SuperTzar, this album is still absolutely amazing!! Hole in the sky is an amazing opening track, followed by a nice instrumental, and then 3 perfect songs back to back! Crazy good album
