Boards of Canada - Inferno
85

What a unique and interesting soundscape the boys created with this one. It reminded me a lot of the silent hill soundtracks or other like trip hop infused alt rock soundtracks from the 90s. The production is so unique as always, I just love some of the techniques and weird effects they use. Blood in the labyrinth has this crazy noise in the chorus when all the instruments come in, it's like a g-spot. I fw the progression too, none of the tracks feel too long and they move really well ... read more

Silversun Pickups - Swoon

my car broke down while I was listening to this so that sucks, but it's just as good as the debut. These guys just have a knack for really great songwriting and guitar tones and stuff. This album has the absolute standout track Panic Switch, my favorite song by them. The bassline is insane, and the chorus is so cacophonus and hits so hard. But I also really liked Substitution, that had a great chorus. Pretty strong!

Neurosis - An Undying Love for a Burning World
85

I was really ejoying this, and I'm not even really a metalhead or neurosis fan. I think what really gets me is the juxtaposition between the SUPER heavy loud sections that rip like a mother and sound so large, and the atmospheric quieter sections with droning grooves and beautiful production. They have a really great knack for both of these styles, which allows them to write 10 minute long songs without them getting boring. Also the opening screaming nummber is really funny

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
55

yeahhhhhhhh Peggy went into the deep end with this fake aura persona and turned the entire internet against him. makes sense, because this album really doesnt have a lot to offer. I was honestly expecting a normal peggy project in the beginning, but then he decided to switc the genre on every song, and when the songs are a minute and a half long it gives you crazy whiplash. There's also some truly awful beats that sound like a tiktok with the caption "i just made some BS"

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper (The Extended Cut)
80

I rviewwe the ambient EP on its own, so this review is just for learning to swim and melisa. Both pretty solid songs that don't add anything crazy. Vanisher is already pretty long so they prolly arent necesary, but both (especially melisa) are worth a listen and have some engagin pproduction, and foltronica style choices

matt proxy - teenage genius 3
80

Real weird and interesting, but in an engaging way. Kinda reminds me of heavnsouls, in its surreal and avant-garde expression. This uses a lot of collage work and genre fusion to make this really strange atmosphere that I find incredibly engaging, but something I don't quite understand. I look forward to finding out more about this interesting 10 minute song

Car Seat Headrest - Teen of Denial: Joe's Story
60

I'm giving this a 60 because of how completley pointless it is. Most of the album does not sound nearly diffrerent enough to warrant the whole re-recording, and the parts that are different are considereably worse and weirdly censored? Idk this was just pointless, Teens was already they're best produced record why even rerecord it. whatever, don't even bother

Minor Threat - Out of Step
80

A lightining, fast, absolutely ripping punk EP featuring the beast punk vocalist ever Ian Mackey. Idk his voice just IS punk to me it's so good. It follows is my favorite song. My only complaint is that this is only 20 minutes long, and doesn't have a chance to explore itself. Fugazi is b better at exploring the genre

Fatboy Slim - You've Come a Long Way, Baby
70

I wanted to like this more but I feel like the songs I don't love drag on for way too long, and even the songs I do like drag on. The beats are really fun and engaging, big beat has always had an interesting aggressive yet still groovy vibe, and this album has lots of beats like that, they all feel like they could be shorter, or have a lot more differences throughout

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada E.P.
90

Oh baby, I was feeling some instrumental post-rock after the now now and never and I remembered this exists and damn it's insane. Moya is a super interesting track that progresses beautifully, and I think it's a classic prime gybe song. But man, BBF3 is something else. The interview with Blaise Bailey Finnegan is insane, its both entertains for his maniacal rage over a $25 speeding ticket, but its profound and uncomfortable in how correct he was, and still continues to be as our ... read more

what is your name? - the now now and never

ehh I honestly wasn't feeling this one all that much. Personally, I think the lo-fi production doesn't work very well with post-rock, and especially music that tries to feel atmospheric with that production style. In a genre so focused on texture and atmosphere, having everything sound broken down makes it feel weird and unsatisfying. I don't think that about all lo-fi music, but idk it doesn't work for me that much here.

slayr - Half Blood (BloodLuxe)
80

Slayr is certainly a player in this modern hyper-pop/digicore/rage movement, and these extra songs prove his strength. I think the tracks from the original are stronger but theses are still absolutely raging dynamic songs

Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans
70

its solid enough, but the 4 almost 20 minute songs are kinda meandering and boring at times. There isn't nearly as strong a vision as something like close to the edge, and with long songs you need to have that strong vision. The musicianship is just as strong (except no bill Buford makes me sad) and there as some solid grooves and moments but it just falls a bit flat know. I do like the part where Steve howe quotes close to the edge in one song its pretty fun

Beck - Colors
50

Nah bruh 2 decent songs cannot save you from this mid ass project. dear life is pretty good, a fav of my gf and dreams is decent, I never realized it was by Beck. However everything else here is really uninteresting and so far from Becks good albums. some of the shit on this album is real bad, like wow. that song is not worth listening to. man I was hoping for better from Becky here bit nope it's kind garb

Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
80

A really strong indie rock album from the 2000s that I can tell was very influential going into the 2010s. IO saw this band live when I was a kid but they've always been a band I enjoyed a few songs from but was never a fan favorite. I like this album a lot! I think it has some of the best rock songs of the era, like checkered floors and ESPECIALLY lazy eye, wow that song is electric. It's also a really consistent listen, and doesn't really get old along it's almost hour ... read more

Lamp - ランプ幻想 [Lamp Phantasma]
85

This was the 1000th album I've listened too, which is a crazy accomplishment for me. I've been keeping track for years now so hitting 1000 feels surreal lol. Anyways lamp is like the band to listen to with your partner, and me and my lovely gf and I enjoyed this together which was so nice. What a beautifully orchestrated and written record. The use of so many different influences come together perfectly, the vocals are so sweet and cute, and the atmosphere is just gorgeous and ... read more

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus
80

I wanna give this an 85 but it just feels wrong tbh. I think the first half (abattoir blues) is the stronger half, featuring the cool mix of punk and blues this album likes sitting in. There she goes my beautiful world is my fav nick cave song ever, because it genuinely goes so fucking hard it's insane. a gospel punk banger! But the first Half has other good songs too, especially the first 2. The lyres of orpheus section is a lot slower and more acoustic, and features the intimate ... read more

Almendra - Almendra
80

sleeper great album from this random artist I had never heard of. Apparently this artist is related to Pescado Rabioso, an artist I'm sorta familiar with, but this is some really interesting Argentinean psychedelic music. The instrumentals are swirling and some of the guitar solos feel Hendrix-like in the way they just take you away with you lovely and psychedelic. I think the lead singer's voice is really nice, tho I can't understand what he's saying. The drums are also ... read more

At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
80

An insanely energetic and groovy record that is both heavy and aggressive and beautiful in some moments. The interesting vocals throughout this project wail so hard, and basically every chorus hits like a mother. That isn't even talking about the absouleuty insane instrumentation and performances on this record. One of the strongest punk or punk adjacent projects I've heard. one armed scissor is like 11/10 and a genuine masterpiece, but rolodex propganda, arcasenal an invalid letter ... read more

Foals - Life Is Yours
55

Final foals album and yeah it's not really anything. Generally not terrible but still prolly their weakest project and I'm sure they won't be dropping a random banger album anytime soon. For a band with such an interesting sound this whole project feels completely disconnected in the same way What Went Down did, but man these songs are just so unmemorable
