Had no intention of leaving a review here but then I caught wind of the hate train for this song … i’m not falling for it
Really?? 87/100 user score???
Man, this album pissed me off and tested my patience. I basically have the same problem with almost every song on here. They start off with a mildly interesting idea and then proceed to go on for 5 minutes and do nothing with that idea nor progress in any way shape or form. It feels like I, the listener, am being taunted and teased by the prospect of something interesting happening, just for it to be pulled away at the last moment as I realize at the midpoint of ... read more
At its best this EP is pure euphoria. Like you are frolicking around a meadow with no care in the world going Oooooohhh Aaaaahhhhh Woah woah woah woah woah we are young Ooooohhhh Aaaahhhh woah woah woah. Woodland is basically the final boss of millennial folk pop and I’m all for it. Exactly, what the genre is meant to be at its most ideal- participatory, simple and optimistic about the future without being overly specific. I really wish this attitude returned to pop music today.
I had to review this album after seeing Invent Animate and Silent Planet live while watching the Knicks beat the Celtics in the playoffs on my phone lol GO NEW YORK👏👏👏
Anyways
SUPERBLOOM is a terrific album that shows Silent Planet has the potential to be one of the best modern metalcore bands. If there's any words that this album can be described by its “apocalyptic” and “atmospheric”. The downtuned Djent guitars help aid the apocalyptic feel as they ... read more
Caramel might just be Sleep Token’s most well written, introspective and emotionally honest song. It makes me very interested for the narrative in the wait for the incoming new sleep token album. Will this album finally be the time Vessel goes full mask off and accepts his fate, and finally bids goodbye to his mirage of ananonymity? Caramel hints that might just happen as Vessel talks directly about how volatile his jounrey to stardom with sleep token has been, with his dreams of musical ... read more
As the biggest TLT glazer on the planet this is the first time i’ve ever heard a TLT song I didn’t like. The overcompressed chorus is completely garish and gross sounding. TLT usually manages to distort, compress, bass boost and autotune their music and make it sound tasteful. However, the vocal processing and compression is so severe it removes any sort of tone or emotion in the vocalist’s voice. This lack of tone, replaced by a staticy mess might have been passable if the ... read more
Oh my god. Oh my god.
There are very few bands with a formula so timeless and addicting that it can be repeated over and over again with only slight variations and fine tuning yet still sound as fresh and brilliant as it did the first time around. Breaking Benjamin definitely fits that category as they do virtually the same thing every song but still I’m yet to hear something from them I don’t like.
That brings me to Awaken, one of my favorite songs of 2024. A song with a simple ... read more
I really don't care how terrible it is. I can't stop listening to Thick of It and singing it at full volume🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
LUNCHLY GANG FOR LIFE
Sabrina Carpenter on the album closer - “Dont cry because it happened, smile because its over”
Well I'm certainly smiling now that short and sweet is over and I never have to listen to it again because WOW THAT WAS BAD. I already had low expectations after disliking espresso but wow this album takes the bland unfunny lyricism of that song and places it over some of the most lifeless pop instrumentals I’ve heard all year that rival the white bread slop from TTPD.
I ... read more
I was introduced to Falling In Reverse after scrolling through the lowest rated albums in AOTY and watching Brad’s review of Fashionably Late. After doing this I listened to the album and was quite captivated by its fun and cartoonish energy, wild genre combinations and unique personality of Ronnie Radke. Fashionably Late quickly became a personal favorite of mine. I'm still one of the only positive reviews for that album on this site and for Popular Monster it seems this will be the ... read more
How awful such decent production was wasted on this Starbucks bullshit. I mean the song comes off like an ad for a designer clothing line to advertise their summer sale. And of course it's called Espresso. so Im calling it, this is unabashedly the whitest song I've ever heard. And of course Sabrina Carpenter adds nothing here that you can't get from literally any other female pop artist in the mainstream. Its generic, yet she tries so hard to be quirky as well which just comes ... read more
Long Review Incoming!
The unmitigated gall of Sleep Token releasing an album that sounds like this. Take Me Back to Eden is not just my favorite album of 2023, but also both a polarizing and groundbreaking record - 2 things that often go together. After all, the best inventions often hold something the general public isn't ready for on release, causing strong reactions from people on both sides. Weezer’s Pinkerton drew this reaction back in the 90s before defining the Emo genre and ... read more
MAGDALENA BAY ARE GONNA DROP THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR, I CAN FEEL IT COMING🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥!
Oh no, that did not make me smile :F(
Well. It appears I am missing something here?
This album really didn't do much for me, and neither did Nurture. I found this unexpected as I typically eat upbeat uplifting pop infused electronic music right up.
Smile, is similarly a head scratcher as Porter Robinson generally drops the electronics for guitars which have this maroon 5 sheen on them throughout the album. This makes it so the vast majority of the guitar parts feel simplistic and made ... read more
Here we have some Gen Z BRATified boom bap rap!
Valence and Brae do everything they can to gentrify the Beastie Boys sound, and I think they mostly pull it off. The instrumentals here switch between pretty standard but well produced jazz rap and modern club bangers. Given the nonserious tone of this album’s lyrical content, I think this wild genre fusion works. Honestly, the production creates a nice contrast between the grittiness of boom bap 90s hip hop and fun club music. The contrast ... read more
It’s time for my first review of a US Hip Hop album. Here it goes.
This album features countless hollow but vibey bangers with impeccable flows, usually good production and AI sounding rap lyrics that sound like nothing out of the ordinary for mindless vibe trap rap. I will say, despite this album’s short 34 minute length, it felt quite a bit longer than that. I think this was due to the fact there were 15 songs, alongside the similarity of a lot of these tracks causing some of the ... read more
Ever heard a song that sounds completely custom made for your personal liking? That’s this song for me.
This track is pure unadulterated euphoria and one of my most played songs this year. Chase and Kyunchi have perfect chemistry here and glide at sonic speed over this instrumental, which is basically a candy coated hyperpop flavored early 2010s trance track with an otherworldly nostalgic vibe to the production
