I just know this album is gonna grow on me, but first impressions are I love it. I'm just not sold on Movies and Mirror Forever-- they're pretty but I don't feel like they quite pay off. The rest of the album is gorgeous and I just love how it mixes older sounds with a newer vibe. So many melodies here that just feel right.
Idk what you guys are hearing-- parts of the song are standard connor but the hook is sweet and the beat goes hard.
While this album is far from perfect, he shows a ton of potential here-- great goofy (and some serious) bars. Honestly the biggest weaknesses are the reverb-y mix and overall some weak beats. But there's some good creativity and flows here, and he's already doing way better things on his Instagram. Watch out for this kid.
Much more disposable overall than Isolation, with some forgettable sections, but good production, some great melodies, and Kali’s killer voice keep this album afloat. No duds but I always snooze when Summer Walker comes on.
Interesting album from George Clanton— not the type of stuff I would usually listen to but was reccomended and I really enjoyed it. Some parts that feel like they go on too long and not my favorite sound, but plenty of good ideas to make for a cool atmospheric experience.
Super nice album from Kali. Lots of lush instrumentals-- there are some that are a little more guitar-slapping then I tend to vibe with, but no bad songs here and some really great songs too. Will prob grow on me.
Definitely a lot of blander Scenic Drive level tracks here, but Skin's a banger, and Faded is an interesting experiment that only works sometimes, but is one of the more creative Khalid in recent memory.
Personal (ft Normani) - 71
Make It Up To You (ft Arya Starr) - 65
Passionate - 70
MIA (ft. Chloe) - 72
Skin - 82
Faded - 72
Super cool-- would be so interesting to hear Sampha on more alt-pop/electronic beats as much as I love his R&B stuff.
While I respect some of the things he's going for here, and lyrically I think it's pretty well done, his delivery is just atrocious and frankly one of the worst I've ever heard, especially in his character voice. Sounds like something Dax would do. The humming thing at the start and end is also odd. Clearly made with heart but I can't say I think this is well made or executed.
While GNX still has plenty to offer, as it's aged it's easily become the weakest Kendrick project for me, and is one I hardly revisit just months later. It mainly comes down to lack of depth, simplified production, and an often grating vocal performance by Kendrick. It really feels like a project that was pulled together in a few months, without the TLC Kendrick usually gives. Tracks like gnx were recorded just days before release and it shows. Ironically, on an album with tracks like ... read more
A nice listen for sure, but not as excellent as the singles might have suggested. No duds here but also definitely have some songs that drag. Everything's competent but sometimes Cordae and the hooks/features he chooses doesn't feel fully assured as an artist/album experience. Smooth but only occasionally more. Cordae flows well on the beats but also doesn't really come into a verse with a concept, except for on tracks like Saturday Mornings.
Essentially, my point is: his pen ... read more
Really impressive project from nobigdyl. It's always been my opinion that Christian music should be better, and more thoughtfully made than secular, given that I feel it's so much more important to glorify God through it. But for a long time I didn't feel that was happening. It felt like people were excusing poor music because it was made for a good purpose, rather than trying to elevate their work to the highest of their ability as a form of praise. Glad to see artists like ... read more
Not amazing but doesn't deserve a 57. The sample is weird sometimes but overall this is solid. MV mad weird tho.
I feel like this feels closest to if Tyler made Wolf today with his current skill. The project has a ton of highlights, some of Tyler’s most introspective tracks yet, but also has a few sorta-skips which I can’t say about a Tyler album since Cherry Bomb. The project lacks the cohesion as a whole of his last 3 albums— CMIGYL and IGOR knew exactly what they were whereas this isn’t so sure. Regardless, it’s still a carefully crafted Tyler album with memorable moments ... read more
Much more ambitious and complex than the initial album — some great tracks. Lizzy cooked.
