I feel like MICO's vocals on here are kinda clunky and the production feels more simplistic than most of his past songs unfortunately. Still think his new EP should be good tho.
I'm in shock about how much I enjoyed this album. Most of AOTY's most beloved new albums feel too arthouse to get into, and feel like music that only a small dedicated group might get into. However, Magdalena Bay produced a record that feels both wildly out there and completely accessible.
With insane production, personality-filled vocals, and in general ideas that feel insane but make sense and don't stop the vibe, this shocked me in quality. I didn't even buy the hype and ... read more
This is one of Connor's best beats and flows... marred by a mediocre Hoodie Allen. For some reason he works on Buddy for me but apart from that really mars a strong song. I like Connor's Hot Topic switchup.
I haven't heard the full album truthfully but I wanted to rate the song Judas here-- to me this song is almost like the biblically based SAMIDOT; Fantastic conceptually and in execution. Not perfect but amazing and very worth an 8 minute listen for anyone. Even if you're not a Christian but are familiar with the general events of the Four Gospels, this is a very worthwhile effort.
Has some highlights and gets credit for its uniqueness but is definitely the worst Tyler album I’ve heard. Not cohesive at all and some of its better moments feel like they were done better on later projects. I actually probably respect the hardcore rock more even though it kinda sucks.
My first project from Logic and it sounds fantastic. Great flows, introspective lyricism and dazzling production makes the best hip hop album so far this year. I do think the skits kinda suck though and I feel add very little and detract a good bit from the experience. Regardless, still great and a lot I've been returning to here. Great to have an album that's inspiring and just feels good to listen to. My score is without skits (would be an 85-86 with) because I always skip them.
Great track but I feel that the mix aptly described by one review as a “wall of noise” feels consistently overpowering and detracts from the overall experience significantly for me.
Still a great album but I do feel that it’s slightly lacking in musical maturity in comparison to his last two. A good portion of it is at his current level tho. I just don’t like the sound of tracks like Who Dat Boy or Ain't Got Time. Would be an 82-83 if those albums that came after it didn't exist.
Khalid was my first "favorite artist", and thus, even throughout years of no albums and frankly some mediocre singles, he always kept a special place in my heart. I recognize that its predecessor, Free Spirit, is a pretty flawed album, but I absolutely love it, still to this day, in spite of a lot of it being somewhat boring. I'm happy to say that Khalid has come out with what, apart from nostalgic value that will always keep Free Spirit on top for me, is his best album yet. ... read more
Another strong single from Khalid off his album coming out tonight, alongside his best MV I've seen-- really great direction. I've heard snippets of the album and it does seem like it will probably be his most cohesive yet.
It's fine. Walker's voice sounds quite nice here in opposed to his famous terrible song Fancy Like, but Connor's voice just sounds lame on almost every song he's on unfortunately. His voice stays within two notes all the time with no real interesting tone or emotion to grab onto. His rapping is alright. Overall a fine song from Connor.
Khalid comes through with his most excellent single since Better! This thing is actually complex, with interesting pitched vocals, great production and progression that feels intelligently crafted and fresh. If the album is more like this, it actually has the potential to be a really good album vs just a good one. I think this def has hit potential and am more excited for the album than ever.
Awesome iteration on Satellite Business, and gorgeous outro, but I feel the whole thing is a little too offbeat to fully get into, and even though I love both artists, I also do feel that Simz comes out of nowhere a bit on here. I also feel that Sampha's vocals on some of the new parts are not great in comparison to Lahai. Still great tho.
The offbeat stuff and all my other issues have gotten better with each listen tho-- just not immediately digestable.
This album has been interesting from Clairo. When I heard it first, I enjoyed it, but it was like a 79. Most of its really good stuff is hard to pick up on the first time around. But as it's played over and over again, its subtle instrumentation, hooks, lyrics, and production choices have creeped up on me to make this one of my favorite albums of the year. Just such a peaceful soft-spoken pleasure every time this thing comes on. Even some of the less exciting tracks like Pier 4 or Nomad ... read more
Really dug Houdini but this is lame. The song would be in the 70s if the beat wasn't insanely lethargic. Never kicks in at all. Rapping is fine even tho Em has the weakest part. It's also disappointing to have a song from what should be a concept album be so non-concept. Kinda lost my faith in the album from this one tbh
Hadn't heard of Lupe Fiasco before today but this is a fantastic album overall. I'm not as big a fan of songs such as Mumble Rap and Cake that are a little more offbeat-- they're less enjoyable to me. But the rest of the album is varying levels of great, from the immaculate opening/title track to songs like Palaces or Til Eternity. I'm also hearing this is written as somewhat of an homage to Amy Winehouse which is interesting.
My biggest overall problem with this project ... read more
Bad Cameo is a immaculately produced album that ultimately goes nowhere. Beautiful soundscapes, great vocal performances, and complex production make this entire thing a lush, delicate listen that was a pleasure to listen to. However, I can't see myself coming back to nearly anything on here because regardless of its quality, a lot of it kind of just goes by.
There are exceptional moments, certainly, like on Twice, Woo, Transport Me and Run Away From The Rabbit, but they never reach a ... read more
