This is everything I wanted Modal Soul to be. Jazzy, soulful and beautiful, while backed with active, interesting production.
Wasn’t feeling this nearly as much as the others. It’s fine tho.
MAN I am really impressed with Sondae here! After a sweet, albeit flawed EP/short album last year, I really liked Sondae's stuff but felt like he had a sound that he gripped very tightly to and rarely went off course of. His own sound, but a somewhat stagnant one.
Going into this album, tired, at 2am, I was not expecting to make it thru this album. But what I ended up with is a creatively beautiful, varied album from Sondae and co. - When I saw it was 21 tracks I was worried, but it manages to ... read more
Full of boring but honestly memorable moments, this album is a mixed bag that's nice to go back to occasionally. I love dec 11th tho.
Wow I’m incredibly impressed with this— I guess the score should’ve told me but this is awesome.
Billie’s vocal performances here are near-perfect. Every line has so much thought and care put into it. The same can be said for the production by FINNEAS; insane levels of detail all around and her best album by a healthy margin. I love so many moments here and will have to revisit over the coming days.
A lot of people are saying this is her magnum opus. I don’t ... read more
I think Charlie Puth has a good handful of bangers and a bunch of other fine songs, but I really hate this one. Just nothing redeemable for me.
Prob my least fav of the four but still hilarious lol -- I have 0 idea how Drake would come back from this, at least in a diss
WHAT IS GOING ON
I'm not going to 100-rate a song because I think the content is dynamite-- that would take a bunch of relistens, but man this is insane and I'm not even really processing it yet. The song sounds like a HORROR movie-- it sounds scary, man.
Relistening, man... This song is near perfect, and the best of the three by a good mile. I love the other two but this is such a well structured devastating track, and given that Kendrick is giving us reciepts to almost everything else in ... read more
Man honestly I am feeling dissapointed right now. I really wanted there to be something that felt like a legitimate battle, but apart from some potential things like that one of Kendrick's kids isn't his or that he abused his wife, both of which I have a hard time believing without proof, this track just felt so dissapointing. Drake is talking about like 10 different guys, barely seems to talk about Kendrick at all. I really wanted something that felt like a solid clap back to Kendrick. Maybe ... read more
I really dug this album-- I only liked Everything Harmony and my main issue were the voices, but I think that, and the production were both improved on this album to create a really fun faithful retro style album.
I think this record is fine, probably a little over my expectations from the last 2 singles. But I also think it really exposes some of Dua's biggest flaws as an artist: Lyrically she's saying almost nothing on this album. Future Nostalgia had more lyrical content, and even then those lyrics were fairly weak, they were just surrounded by much better production that made it feel like an intentional choice rather than a weakness. The writing is more on display because of the lack of production ... read more
This is hilarious, and just what I wanted. As much as it would have been cool to dismantle Drake, I got the sense that Kendrick was more interested in the beef for hip-hop as a whole, and I definitely think that's what he is trying to do after this diss. Structurally very interesting and I love how it gets progressively more aggressive as the track goes on.
I do think Kendrick could have gone harder, but I'm much more impressed with the songwriting, structure and beat than I was with Drake. ... read more
This is IMO one of connor's worst songs. Between kinda lame feeling delivery from Hoodie, who I think is great on Buddy, and a very dissonant, non-vibable beat, I just don't really like this one.
Instagram algorithm gave me another BANGER
this is so unique but also so good-- it's rare to hear something new sounding that you don't feel is also experimental in a potentially offputting way.
It's like Thundercat meets a weird 70s/80s combo and it SLAPS
Man this song is great-- I haven't listened to a ton of Chance but the new stuff from this album cycle has been pretty great and this is some of the most intense, in it rapping I've heard in 2024.
Easily the third single off this album, indubitably. This is one of twenty one pilots' most tracks they've ever made, and I think for the most part it works. Unfortunately, sometimes this song is not quite as less as the other two songs, but it makes up for it by being more than the other two at other times. All in all, sonically, this is a song, with instruments, sound, and vocals, and I think that for what it's trying to do it works just about as well as a single tends to.
Over the last ten ... read more
Aja is overall my favorite Steely Dan album, and thus one of my favorite albums of all time. It's pretty much musical perfection at every level. Aja, the song, is my favorite that Steely Dan has ever made. Hits me every time I hear it. The rest of the project is spectacular. The only weak points for me are I Got the News and Josie-- they're still really good tracks, but not quite as memorable as the rest of the project. But as a whole, this is an amazing project from probably my favorite band ... read more
