This album is very enjoyable but I have an annoyance with its inconsistencies. However, it does feature some of the best Drake tracks, and with good production from front-to-back I recommend this album. Tracks like Tuscan Leather, From Time and Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2 are essential listens.
Drake's proper big debut and it's a fantastic effort. I think that this is his strongest album from his offerings (not including his mixtapes), with various of Drake's vital tracks appearing here. Headlines, Crew Love, Take Care and I have to note the Kendrick Lamar solo track at the end of Marvin's Room (the Buried Alive Interlude) really are great songs.
I genuinely loved this album and I feel it's honestly Dre's best album. Features are star-studded across the board, and with production that sounds modern but still has that Dre feel to it, it is unmatched by his other work. Standouts include Deep Water, Talking To My Diary, Loose Cannons and the out of this world Darkside/Gone.
This album I feel is the pinnacle of the gangsta, west coast hip-hop era of hip-hop. Glossy, top tier production across the whole album, and with excellent singles like Still D.R.E. and Forgot About Dre and album cuts like The Message and What's The Difference, this album is a key listen as a hip-hop fan.
Whilst I do believe this album does sound a bit dated now (explaining my rating) I cannot argue with the MASSIVE influence it had over the hip-hop genre. I recommend the album even with the score I gave. Fuck Wit Dre Day (And Everybody's Celebratin') and the timeless Nuthin' But A "G" Thang are must-listens from this album.
This is a fantastic album from Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats. There is a clear similarity to much of Madlib's work available, and I get huge Madvillainy vibes from the intro track and the use of sound clips throughout the album. Even though there isn't much innovation production-wise or lyric-wise on this project, what it does well it really excels at. Standouts included Take_It_Back_v2, Lay_Up.m4a, Pyro (leak 2019) and 'Cosmic'.m4a. I highly recommend this album, and alongside it the video (you ... read more
I enjoyed this collaboration a good heap. With good production across the board and both rappers performing at a higher level than they had in their previous project, it deserves this score. Standouts include Bomb Thrown and Phantoms.
Childish goes funky on this album. Whilst I found it a drop-off from Because The Internet, there are some key Gambino tracks on here, like Terrified and the unbelievable Me And Your Mama.
IGNORE THE CRITIC REVIEWS! This is a phenomenal album! It pulls together a great story, and with great production from front-to-back, this album is a must listen. Many standouts on this album, like Crawl, Telegraph Ave. (“Oakland” by Lloyd), the brilliant singles Sweatpants and 3005, and the truly brilliant Zealots of Stockholm in particular being a suggestion.
Excusing some odd and quite frankly poor mixing, this is also a great mixtape from Chance. The trzcks All We Got (odd mixing but very good), Blessings (track 5) and the great Smoke Break are essential listens for a hip-hop enthusiast.
A mixtape that sounds complete enough to be an album. Some of my favourite music in hip-hop appears on here, with Pushaman (the second half of this track, named Paranoia, is phenomenal), Everybody's Somebody and Acid Rain really making the mixtape a great listening experience.
The final part of the trilogy, and in my opinion the most consistent of the three. Tracks like ZIPPER, BLEACH, SISTER/NATION and (my personal favourite BROCKHAMPTON song) ALASKA are fantastic. The trilogy is a highly recommended conquest for any hip-hop fan; hell any music fan in general.
The second part of the trilogy and a brilliant follow-up, continuing the themes set by the opening album. With songs like the opener GUMMY, the batshit QUEER and the well-produced SWEET really stand apart.
A fantastic debut album from the group, setting the baseline for the other albums in the trilogy. Tracks such as BOYS, CASH, BUMP and the top-level TRIP really make this album great.
Eminem and Royce's rapping are in top form on this album. Whilst the production could've been stronger, tracks like Welcome 2 Hell and the misogynistic The Reunion really show their skill.
As much as this album gets a decent score from me, I find myself disappointed with this. The high points (from songs like R U Mine? and Snap Out Of It) are extremely high, but its low points really do make this album suffer in my opinion. Still I recommend this album.
This mixtape has many high points, where Rocky shows his potential, and with atmospheric and creative production, this was a good foot in the door, with tracks like Palace and Bass being notable.
This album received stick compared to 50's debut album, but I find it filled with more of the good from that album, with songs like I'm Supposed To Die Tonight and I Don't Need 'Em shining.
