BC,NR is that you?
This EP is pretty steller. The guitars are punchy, the brass is catchy and expressive, and the drumming is frantic. This project is like a storm, every song builds tension until a final burst of lightning releases its billowing crack, and the electricity in the air fades away. I would say its biggest flaw is that it wears its influences a bit too prominently, hence the BC,NR quip. Besides for the vocals, if you showed me one of these songs and told me it was a Black Country, ... read more
Poor guy had to ask so many times for someone to turn the lights on.
This is a very sad record. It's drenched in reverb, full of regret, and laced with bitterness. When I listen to this album, I feel like i'm in a shitty city bar(in New York of course), i'm depressed and drinking with my head on the counter, and the band playing in the corner is weirdly good. The lyrics are melancholy, and the guitars are catchy and ambient. The vocals are strained and emotional, a stand out feature of the ... read more
What can I say? It's OK Computer.
This is THE rock album. It's perfect as far as I can tell. I can say nothing someone hasn't said before.
Favorite Tracks:
1. Paranoid Android
2. No Surprises
3. Exit Music (For a Film)
This record RIPS!
98->100: Re-listened to this recently, its just so fucking good, I can't give it anything lower.
Tight riffs and energetic, passionate performances abound on this album. SOAD brings a cuttingly sarcastic take on the government, drug problems, and the state of America at large. These elements are brilliantly blended to create a powerful and meaningful record, a shining example of what the Metal genre can accomplish. I will be blasting Chop Suey until I die.

Absolutely Perfect.
This album is lush and lo-fi, it is so organic and complex in its own unobtrusive way. There are no flaws.
Phil's lyrics are casual and yet deeply mysterious and intriguing. The instrumentals are bafflingly good, despite sounding like a garage recording upon first listen. The narrative portrayed is a sad slow float down, it is mesmerizing in its effortless flow. This album has deep roots, I am stumped as to how to describe it further. It is worth your time, it deserves a ... read more
An absolute classic.
Back before I started listening to music seriously, I saw a video about The End. I listened to the song and loved it, and then listened to the album. This is probably one of the first albums I ever heard and I am very happy I got my start with The Doors.
I love this album, every song is memorable and groovy. Jim Morrison's poetry shines, especially on The End when he just goes wild. Ray Manzerek's organ is a stable of the band, and some of his finest compositions are ... read more
A phenomenal album.
Dark, turbulent, and mysterious. It reminds me of a David Lynch movie in its shrouded themes and remarkable cohesiveness. It is very sad and dark. I feel that when I listen to this album, I should be on a beach at night, staring into the waves with city lights behind me. The final track Glory Box just feels like giving up, and putting on a smile because there is nothing else to do.
The production is absolutely beautiful. With most albums I can find something to criticize, ... read more
I'm nostalgic for the time before I heard this piece of shit. I'm giving it a four because I don't like that number either.
Fav Track: The last second of Spongebob Theme
One of, if not THE, best pop-rock albums ever.
This record has always felt like an exploration of a geeky persona (or maybe stereotype?). Not exactly Rivers as a person, certainly not as much as Pinkerton, but more the personality associated with him (Jonas maybe?).
Conscious fun is how I would describe this album. In addition to its catchy pop riffs, this album explores emotional themes. You could turn off your brain and just listen to the harmonies and solos, but if you look for meaning in ... read more
This is a strange album, but a phenomenal one.
Staticy Indie Rock is the best description I can think of for this record. Some of the effects and mixing are reminiscent of shoegaze, but it steps back enough to be distinct. The guitars and bass alternate from more clean and distinct tones to a hurricane of reverb and wah, maintaining a level of engagement that many similarly dense records fail to maintain. The lyrics are quite solid, and really shine in a few places, ex. Randy..., Hurt a ... read more
Despite the somewhat promising single Cracker Island, this album quickly disappoints. Its momentum drops off quickly and doesn't pick up again, it feels like a ripoff of Plastic Beach. I really feel drained from listening to it, I would say its greatest flaw is being aggressively mid.
Fav Track: Cracker island I guess, I'll probably never come back to it though
Great song - 98 > 100
Listened to it again, what a fucking bop, couldn't really think of any flaws with it.
Cuttingly Desolate
This album is dark, and phenomenal. If you have ever felt like an outsider to society, ostracized in normal human interactions, forced to watch your life go by like pictures on a movie screen, this album will speak to you. It astounds me how different, and improved, this work is from their previous, "Tweez." The lyrics are personal and resonant, McMahan's performance is pained and naked, and the instrumentation is atonal enough to curl your toes, yet strangely ... read more
