I've been waiting for this album for over a year and I was not disappointed in the least. A brilliant blend of every genre Quinn has dabbled in over the past two (ish?) years, drive-by lullabies is everything could have hoped for and more. The production is phenomenal (with the exception of some strange mastering choices), the lyrics and delivery work together in a laid back almost dream-like sense, and the emotions on this album are as potent as ever. The experimentation in sound and styles is ... read more
Okay, so I think the concept is that this is a joke, but for some reason it feels as though he put A LOT more effort into this... Is he some sort of self aware mastermind? Or is he legitimately just fucking with everyone like he seems to be? I can't tell.
God it is so hard to be a Hobo Johnson fan in 2021.
Either way, this is (at least from an enjoyability standpoint) much better than the Revenge.
Ugh.
After listening to the SHIT SHOW that was I want to see the world, I put off this album for as long as I could because I don't want to taint my love for his works (mainly the Fall and some of the Rise). But holy fuck this is disappointing. It's not as bad as some od the reviews make it out to be, but wow. It's so.... stale. There are maybe 2 or 3 good songs here. I don't know. It's just mediocre, and coming down from the high of the Fall, it's just so sad. 😔
I can't quite believe my luck. The week in which I finally decided to try and finish the CLK discography, the final album is released. I can't wait to listen to this thing
The first track deadass sounds like a 20 minutes bass boosted gaming intro
The rest is alright
IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!
Alright, so I've been waiting for this thing for more than a year now, and it's finally out! Unfortunately, it only has two new songs on it, and even includes one of aldns oldest singles, which released back in May 2020. The two new songs on this EP (2ppl and dog eat dog) are good, but are definitely not as phenomenal as the rest of the singles that have been released thus far. I'll admit that it's irritating that he's only included two new tracks, but that being said, ... read more
So, it's been 10 years of Shabazz Palaces and their most acclaimed album, Black Up. I went into this with relatively high hopes, seeing it describes as "clipping. with Autechre influence". But unfortunately, this didn't do much for me at all. I love the lyricism and rapping on this album, but in my opinion, the production is severely lacking. The minimal and sporadic beats are incredibly uninteresting and create a less than enjoyable experience.
Aldn is literally the most talented young artist coming up rn. Everything he has put out since 2020 has been absolutely, unbelievably, incredible.
.... I have no words. I listened to this when I woke up and let me say, that was the best alarm I've ever had. I'm a massive sucker for industrial hip hop and this is an absolutely mind-blowing venture into the genre. The spoken words pieces add to the haunting aura the entire LP had and the ominous instrumentals are magnificent. I adored this, but regretfully the missing piece was a proper amount of cohesion. It feels a little messy, which may or may not be intentional, but even so, it makes ... read more
Dude, the Fall of Hobo Johnson is one of my absolute favorite albums of all time, so when I say I'm disappointed, IM FUCKING DISAPPOINTED FRANK. holy shit. What an enormous cringefest and his voice sounds so so horrible here. There's nothing good here bruh
ROBALU GIBSUN's Avenue of Champions is an absolute masterpiece of hip hop and I literally stumbled upon it by accident while scrolling through Bandcamp. Now, being inspired to write a big ass pretentious review like a nerd is an extremely rare occurrence. (People who do write big reviews, you're cool as hell, but you're also huge fucking nerds). So, when an album leaves me with the urge to write something really really good about it, I know that album is special. And Avenue of Champions is ... read more
