Will give full credit to the vocalist for giving as much life as you can possibly give to this slopfest of generic folk instrumentals
The most interesting album that I can't get
Instrumentals can often be vivid but can also feel claustrophobic and comatose in ways that disrupts the experience. It's a decent record, but that's about all
Do not care that the whole album is poorly segmented because these are some brilliantly made segments
This album is the result of the slow buildup of feelings I've contained over J. Cole's works over the 2020's decade. That being the feeling he will never be back to his prime ever again.
He built up this album since KOD, had every rap fan in the space in a chokehold begging it would drop, and came out with basically two separate The Off-Seasons. That's it? Really?
The main issue I have with modern J. Cole is that most of his content is just centered about "look how ... read more
Jordan doesn't miss man, transitioning to straight up soul R&B and not missing a beat while doing so
Certainly not bad. Great? Still difficult to justify, but at the very least Don makes a statement that he's actually improving his sound more from his work prior to Hardstone Psycho.
Sensational. Mystifying. Brilliant.
It doesn't really matter how you look at it. By Storm's "My Ghosts Go Ghosts" is a lot of things. But one thing is certainly for certain.
There's nothing quite like it.
From any angle, the rapping, the instrumentals, the backing vocals, the backstory, even billy woods' guest verse.
This album is one of a kind, and that kind just so happens to be of the very good variety.
Deep, cutting, and a sonically moving masterpiece from beginning to end.
Slow and steady wins the race.
Roc's best record since Elephant Man's Bones as he navigates the slow disconnect between his brief, but stunning beat selection.
Pretty solid record, maybe not as consistent as Negative Spaces but still impressive
Definitely a contender for IDK's best, production team really gave him all he needed to thrive
Well, it's not the worst thing ever, but this it's fully undersold by how empty the lyrics feel. I like the vocal inflection and most of the production is fine, but there's nothing to marvel at, nothing to grab your attention or even keep it.
I can't in good consciousness understand an album like this because each song is just floating in an individual abyss with nothing to break apart the obvious blank space when it came to making these songs feel lively.
Putting the veto in Cavetown with how the last album's sound was undone
Came into this with solid expectations after a great last album. Left with the runaway AOTY so far, a beautiful soundscape of melancholic and soothing vocals and booming production.
I'm going to be honest. No Rocky record would have been worth 8 years of waiting. I didn't care about that. The music itself holds up as another experimental move from Rocky, not only much more consistent than TESTING, but with higher highs.
SWAT TEAM as one of the worst rated songs is actually criminal, that's the best beat on the album
You can't talk about making verse of the year when the last time you were here you dropped the worst album of your career and chickened out of a rap beef.
My main issue is the beat meanders along with little to break up the noise as Cole scribbles about his backwards life. It's a super technically impressive song, but sadly can't be anything more.
