Hellberg’s magnum opus. Much of his best stuff is here and deserves to be here. The vocal work is great here, the melodies are some of his best, and the sound as a whole is so refined. He may have reached his full potential here, in the best way possible.

A short, sweet, fun EP that’s more dynamic than most of Televisor’s other output. Out of any of Televisor’s tracks, these four work the best together as an EP. A worthy temporary send-off for Televisor’s original output.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this album, even though much of it was a so-bad-it’s-good experience. There are certainly some hard-to-listen-to moments throughout, but there’s this silly, hyper energy to the project that I can get behind. Not always my thing, but it takes me back to the fun I had listening to the FUS project from Skrillex, and I’m here for it ... read more

An impressive step forward in Cavetown’s sound. I was cautiously optimistic going into this more of a pop-punk direction, hoping it wouldn’t strip away the sound design and vibes that I’ve grown to love from this artist. But all of that’s still there, along with more solid melodies and well-built lyrics. Cavetown’s voice works unprecedentedly well for this new sound, ... read more

It feels more refined than its predecessor, for better and for worse. It’s a more consistent style all the way through and doesn’t get stale, but it doesn’t quite hit the highs of its predecessor. Even so, this is a solid album, with some nice melody ideas, cool beats, and foremost, dynamic textures. Astrale steps up his production game on this one, and SOULPUNCHER succeeds as an album despite some of its little flaws.

A step in the right direction for Moore Kismet. Each song has one clear winner in terms of drops, but the rest holds its own alright. The project leans in to the strongest parts of the Moore Kismet sound a lot of the time. I enjoyed this sound quite a bit!

Short, sweet, fun comp that highlights some promising talent. Felt like several different eras of Monstercat were represented in the sounds underlying these tracks, so that was cool to hear. Solid comp that won’t break records but may be the start of a cool comp series in the future.

“Believe Her” being the only blemish on its record, Fij takes a more dynamic approach than ever before to this project, often to great effect. Solid track that doesn’t reach highs to highs or lows too low but stays consistently good throughout the whole project (other than “Believe Her”).

A project that opens several possible directions for Skrillex, some that I'd love to see, and some I hope I don't. I like that he's experimenting with new ideas that push the boundaries of EDM, and in this case he shows off textures, the likes of which I hope he builds out and applies to more substantial projects in the future. A couple sections remind me of the kind of glitchiness and sampling that Jaron likes to do in his projects, and I'm so here for that. But I do love ... read more

Easily Tut Tut Child’s most consistent project for a while up until this point. Strong vocal chops, nice vocal performances, some drops that really hit, a couple cool and unique ideas for whole sections of the track. Really solid one in a time when he was starting to bounce back from a slump.

A bit polarizing in production quality, but the melodies and ideas are definitely there. Draper’s always been a fun producer to listen to, and this EP displays that well. Love the variety on this as well, in both genre and vibe.

Vibes-based worldbuilding in this EP makes this short journey a special milestone for both artists, who mix their styles well here. As songs, they’re all just very solid, but mad respect to them for executing a shorter musical story well, especially within such a highly stylized setting.

Sometimes artists feel the need to force a debut album, putting it out with no motivation other than that the music industry seems to require it. I love to see when artists of any genre, but somehow especially EDM, deliver an album with clear intentionality and motivation within the tracklist. KLAXX does this to great effect. On top of the drops being sick, the melodies being strong, the mixes being ... read more
