Oxbow - Serenade in Red
85

Oxbow doing everything they do well but now turned up to 11. Also proto-Algiers. The more significant addition of the blues sound is such a great addition. Really brings out the ROCK N ROLL in this noise rock. Yeah the silence is kinda unnecessary. But idk Im not gonna hold it against them too hard.

Oxbow - Let Me Be a Woman

just about everything that was great about their debut turned up to 10. Eugene Robinson really stands out as a truly unique and passionate lyricist. Also yass tranzz shit tbh

Oxbow - King of the Jews
85

what do you do after debuting with a full project of absolutely blood pumping noise rock...?
That's right! You go and make one of the weirdest, most avant garde, straight up freaky albums ever. Thanks Oxbow. I clapped my hands to this

Oxbow - Fuckfest

no, more like if Guns n Roses if they were good

billy woods - GOLLIWOG

I find this to be simultaneously one of billy's most gratifying albums to date and also one of his most missed potentials. This album does so much right. The rapping is, as always, on a different level. And not in a overly complicated way, no I mean pure entertainment to. woods bars are just straight up way funnier and more clever than like 90% of other rappers. The beats are constantly great. And the theming, as I think everyone felt, is an instant "hell yes."

But this is also ... read more

Took a lot of time to form my thoughts on this project. And honestly the discourse around this album (and how awful it is) has basically made me want to disconnect from all online music discourse forever and focus solely on this as a cataloguing system for myself. So this review is basically just for me :)

This is up there for the most visceral piece of music I have ever heard in my life. The only things comparable are Lingua Ignota and select parts of Xiu Xiu's catalogue. I love just ... read more

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz

Maximalist pop done to maximum perfection.

When you listen to this thing past just the full throttle digicore assault you can really appreciate the level of detail and composition that went into it. So many layers of synths and beats all stacked into a cohesive whole. And actually, in my opinion, there are a decent couple parts where the albums stops being traditional bangers and becomes pretty head-y.

Colin Stetson - The love it took to leave you
85

Not reinventing the wheel, just a better design. While on its face this album is Colin doing what he has done for a while now I see it as his 'Bottomless Pit.' While he's doing much of what he has already done Colin takes it to new levels of intensity, aggression, and focus. The love it took to leave you easily has some of Colin's most robust, ferocious compositions to date. He clearly went into this album with a focus on a darker sound and it suits him Immensely well. The ... read more

Colin Stetson - All This I Do For Glory

Some of Colin's most methodical and rhythmically intricate work to date. Colin naturally works his way into a longer set of compositions on this project and to very interesting results. The progressions on this album have a massive focus on the consistent organic rhythms. They become incredibly entrancing to listen to and it can start to feel as though the clicks of your brain are aligning with clicks of the music. While it feels like the album may be missing some sort of high point or ... read more

Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light
78

More of a good thing to slightly lesser results. Again Colin Stetson's work is hypnotizing and mind bending. The progressions are consistently satisfying and head-y to the nth degree. I do find some of the compositions to be a little bit less engaging and satisfying as Vol II and there is definitely not much new going on but still very good work.

Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges
88

A pretty incredible display of experimentation and improvisation. Colin Stetson takes a step forward in the world of avant-garde jazz to dazzling results. His work here is truly hypnotic. But, as the title and concept suggests this album isn't all pretty. It's packs some real bite and intensity.

Lady Gaga - MAYHEM
58

Is the industrial influence in the room with us...?

No but she hyped this up like it was gonna be the craziest shit everrrrr. And it genuinely could not be more in the same place as she has always been. But don't worry, it's not just expectations that make me dislike this album. I think the writing is unbearable too :)

Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
85

Beautifully produced and so soulful with some great lyrical gems from the crew. A more underground classic for sure.

Carissa's Wierd - Songs About Leaving
88

First time I played this was also when I had just got my new google phone. And the lock screen music widget on the google phone is a horizontal rectangular box as compared to the iphone which just displays the whole cover image. So the orange part of the cover fit perfectly into the widget. It was like meant to be. Kind of like that manga by Junji Ito.

Billy Joel - The Stranger
80

Pretty peak piano rock. She's always a woman sucks tho dont @ me. Italian restaurant is the best!

Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters

punk thats actually radical and well-played?

"I totally understand what you mean when you talk about patience. I had a very similar experience attempting to listen to Swans To Be Kind and only later being able to finish it and love it. Having that experience before listening to IRA is probably what made this such an easy listen for me personally. It is truly a profound experience to have in terms of learning and growing in your ability to consume art. I will fight you a little bit because this album has also had a life changing effect on me. This album may be the single most inspiring piece of art I have ever experienced. I have thought about this album every single day since finishing it because every day I feel a fundamental Need to make music like this. It truly is a special album."
On Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de GrĂ¢ce)
"@Mychal I've listened to his back catalogue Extensively, trust. This is the same lines about pronouns and Caitlyn Jenner for like 10 songs. Don't worry girl, I get it. The idea of slim shady doesn't just go over my head. Like I said Guilty Conscious 2 was decent cause it was the actual "Death" part of that concept. The rest is just an attempt to adapt slim shady to the modern day and failing miserably. He sounds like an "anti-sjw" edgelord in a Rainbow 6 lobby. It's just corny and cringe"

"Great breakdown of the album"
On Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
"@Dallamalla For me touching a good amount of other genres doesn't always mean that it's diverse. Yes it hits on pop, altpop, electronic, indie, synthpop, even a bit of rock, etc. But to me a lot of the diversity in that kinda gets washed away under the soft alt pop style. It all has a cool soft blue filter over it. It takes a lot of different inspirations but makes them more one note. And that may not be a bad thing cause with some albums it can make them cohesive, which it does do here, but I also think it takes away the flavor of those influences. To again reference the synths on Chihiro, they stand out on the album, but there's just not that much more to them outside the soft pop sound, ie not much diversity."
