Whoo another one from Lil Chilly! I have always had some mixed feelings with the music they have provided and I have cared enough to listen to. There's nothing wrong with the music it's just not really suited to my tastes so I'm usually left in the dust while everyone is ranting and raving at how great the music is. Am I expecting there to be more of the same with this EP? Neh it's all blank slate as usual. I am blind and so is my judgement before even pressing play. Speaking of, let's go ahead ... read more

Hotel Pools - Nightshade

Thank You @Krolljr for recommending me this EP from Hotel Pools!

Ever since I dove pretty deep into the rabbit hole of Vaporwave and it's various varieties and subgenres back in early 2022, an artist that I found interesting was this one. There's just something about them that had my particular attention. This was back when my focus for music listening was still on single tracks rather than full albums. But it was the dying days of that era of mine since by the end of the summer I was binging ... read more

I feel like I took a HARD drug and am just floating through the dimension that is basically the cover art everywhere. All the colors are shifting and dancing along to the grooves of this tune. As everything breathes together as one entire entity. While My visit to this pocket dimension is brief as the drug effects slowly wear off on me I don't think I will ever forget this particular trip even after the hard crash that's coming. Worth it tho. I'm giving that dealer a fucking tip the next time I ... read more

Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians

Man that first half was an absolute CHORE to get through. It's really uninteresting shit just skip to "Converting Vegetations". It gets infinitely more engaging from that track onwards. Like the stark quality difference can't be understated at least accounting to my personal taste. If you really like the first half more power to ya but be sure to not miss out on the fantastic second one!

Overall I guess it's an ok way to spend two and a half hours of your life. The first part of it ... read more

Paula Cole - This Fire

A pretty underrated album from the Grammy nominated Paula Cole. She has a damn solid voice and the writing is really good at points. It a mid nineties art pop singer songwriter so, if that scratches an itch then you can't go wrong with this one. It ain't the best thing ever but I think it deserves a bit more attention and maybe some praise.

It's Chillwave ( thanks @Krolljr for that heads up) pretty similar to the A.L.I.S.O.N LP I just reviewed but it has a certain zest to it and takes things a step further in the evolution of the genre. Makes sense since this was made last year and the other one back 2018 in the early days(? IDK I am not keen to the history of this shit but I am more than happy to be educated!) of the genre. I found this to be very enjoyable and pleasing to the ears as is usual with the genre. It's just that the ... read more

It's stereotypical vaporwave. You know that iconic Home track that absolutely dominated the internet and brought the genre to the mainstream and is still making the rounds to this day? Yeah this album is cut from the same vein from that song. Have I heard this kind of sound hundreds of times by this point? Yes. Do I still absolutely love it? Yes. Is it going to win any awards? No. Is it still a very enjoyable casual listen regardless? Absolutely! So if you are thirsting for more of that ... read more

Mallsoft my beloved 😍

This genre and the shit associated with the Frutiger Aero aesthetic is just on another level of vibes and serenity. Like I want to live in this music it's just such a warm embrace of a vibe and I don't want to let go. It's comfort music that you don't want to get out of. It's hypnotic swirly dreamscape is addicting. While yes it can be seen as forgettable slop by some but damn if you vibe with it you fucking VIBE WITH IT! This kind of music is just so catered to my ... read more

Surfing - Against the World

Just learned that one of my earliest vaporwave discoveries released an EP not too long ago. Don't know how Surfing passed this release without my notice but it's better late than never I guess.

Crazy to think that one of he OGs of the iconic genre is still kicking it today a dozen years after their debut. The releases haven't been often nor consistent but they do come eventually. And with this latest installment to the discography I am happy to say that Surfing still got that zest when it ... read more

Very nice ambient album. Calms the spirit, and brings an air of serenity. Does everything it needs and does nothing more.

It's a lil bit weaker in the starting and finishing stretch, but I was really feeling the rhymes, flow, storytelling and tight production from "Hollow Way" to "I would Never". Real solid stuff despite being nothing that blew my mind or anything.

Florist - If Blue Could Be Happiness

From the gentle caress of the guitar to the gentle poetry that mystifies the listener this soft folk singer songwriter LP sends a strong impact without being loud or brash. With the colorful metaphors and entrancing storytelling with such masterful usage the instruments enhance the gentle yet fierce emotion. My eyes may have watered up a time or two. I didn't expect such a soft album to affect me this much yet there's a tightness in my chest and throat. Thoughts are swirling through my head ... read more

Windows 96 - 19999

Just relistened to "Dated New Aesthetic" to see if I was gaslighting myself into thinking it was greater than it was but nope it only solidified my apparently unpopular opinion that it's some of Windows 96's finest work. It may not be as flashy as his acclaimed albums but damn is it a satisfying listen with absolutely gorgeous production. I'm staying on this hill and there's nothing you can say to convince me to walk off it.

I also listened to this album last night immediately after ... read more

Thank you @mikaelauditore for letting me know about this release of yours!

I hate everything now that I just thought of this. Mixtapes like this with a bunch of bite sized tracks that give a hit of dopamine is the TikTok of the music world. I can't unthink this and it makes so much sense. I feel like I am numbly scrolling through my FYP while listening through these quick quirky fun electronic songs. Thank you NEZZY for letting me know about your mixtape!

The opener is a nice vibe to start things off nothing standout but it sets a nice mood despite getting a bit irritating with that siren and everything else being samey. Can't say that I enjoyed it but I ain't hating either. It does the job.

You say you love your Glitchy Messes but it's honestly pretty structured pretty well. I jam to it pretty hard its a fun track.

Thanks @AG10CENTAVOS for reaching out and letting me know about your mixtape!

I have been listening to a whole lot of 80's music the past couple of weeks so listening to this mixtape was quite the adjustment for my ears.I also just woke up so that probably doesn't help with me being half asleep literally. Most of the time my ears were just confused as to what they were hearing but I finally adjusted by the time "yoTTa!" came around and I really enjoyed that track! Lots of fun stuff ... read more

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love

Inventive writing.

Fascinating production.

Kate Bush is on point.

Not as weird as The Dreaming not as whimsical as Never for Ever but I am not sure how to box it in as a genre. It's certainly unique and is a VERY engaging listen with a ton of shit happening and is just begging for more listens to appreciate the totality of the craftsmanship.

Very impressive.

Tons of variety, never boring.

Straight up cinematic at points.

Tom Waits - Rain Dogs

It's definitely not up to par with Swordfishtrombone but it certainly does bear some weight. I didn't find Toms voice as charming this time around and the instrumental was not at the level that I was expecting it to be. It's certainly an interesting listen but I don't think I can call it all that good. He dipped into the well that succeeded last time but got diminishing returns. At least it's not a complete waste of time.

Smooth as all hell.

It's all pretty one note stuff for almost an hour but that single note is a good one. So while I did get a bit tired of it all by the end of the record, I still found a good amount of smooth jazz to add to the playlist for those nights when the mood is right. Not the best album ever, but Sade could have done way worse.

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
