中森明菜 [Akina Nakamori] - Bitter and Sweet

Other than sounding more western and the cool production choices here and there I still see this as a a pretty generic 80's pop album with a Japanese vocalist. Nothing about this caught my interest or fancy unfortunately.

Meat Puppets - Up on the Sun

Some decent Alt Rock/country. Nothing too impressive but doesn't waste your time. I warmed up in time to like a few of the songs ear the end but even then it wasn't anything too significant.

Recs:
- Enchanted Porkfist
- Seal Whales
- Two Rivers

Einstürzende Neubauten - ½ Mensch

I feel like I am part of a demon worshiping cult in an iron works factory with all the fires on full blast. It's great!

Recs:
- Halber Mensch
- Trinklied
- Z.N.S.
- Sehnsucht (Zitternd)

Prince and The Revolution - Around the World in a Day

A bit of a throwback to the golden days of Psychedelia with the flair of the 80's add some funk to it with a hint of David Bowie and you gain the ability to go around the world in just a single day! This album has a strong start with the first three tracks being SO my vibe and while it falters a bit afterwards there still enjoyment to be had just not as much. Thankfully we are back in gear for the fantastic final two songs to finish the album! Overall I had a good to great time with this. If ... read more

I yawned at least five times listening to this.

Rites of Spring - Rites of Spring

And so everyone decided to wear all black including dying their hair that color. Emo is officially born. This is still basically a strange brand of hardcore punk but I guess it has enough elements that will evolve into the formal composition in time.

The Pogues - Rum Sodomy & the Lash
50

It's very Irish and Elvis Costello produced it. Also St Patties day is only a couple days away. I also got some Irish blood in me and there's a lot of clovers growing in my yard. I don't drink but I feel like grabbing a jug and singing shanties at the local bar while guzzling away the good shit. I didn't care much for this album tho.

戸川純 [Jun Togawa] - 好き好き大好き [Suki Suki Daisuki]
50

I got such a strange feeling listening to this. It's like one of those ai videos with like an anime character singing a genre not really associated with that kind of voice but this shit is actually real and I am listening to it feeling like I am in an alternate universe or something. It certainly was interesting, but I don't think I will be coming back to it.

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

What an absolute jaw dropping stunner of an album full of MASTERFUL composition from classic pop songs revered to this days, to the song that made me tear up and well up in emotion for the first time in months "Why Worry" It's just all such a wonder to properly witness this classic album for the first time I am absolutely ASTONISHED! It's an easy front runner for my personal AOTY of 1985 and it's going to be hard to top! If by chance you haven't listened to this masterpiece then I ... read more

The Church - Heyday

I kinda agree with another review in saying that this is pretty uninspired and wasn't all that interesting listening through with the exception of a couple tracks that did little to improve the experience though I did appreciate the relief from the monotony they provided

Brian Eno - Thursday Afternoon
60

Listening to this on a Thursday afternoon hits different. I swear I didn't plan on this coincidence it's just how the stars aligned. But seriously it's Brian Eno, it's ambience, you know what you're going to get from this LP. Mildly interesting sounds and a lot of relaxed vibes. It's very nice and gentle and doesn't stray from the path. I found the experience nice but nothing more or less and it's exactly what I expected it to be. Not the best Eno but not the worst.

Whitney Houston - Whitney Houston
85

It's cheesy, it's lovey dovey, and it's great! Arianna and Mariah WHO?! Jkjk they are all amazing vocalists and are the greatest of their time and I don't care to join in on the debate of who's the best. I will say tho that this album was very beautiful and very easy on the ears despite it feeling a bit mainstream and radio friendly. Nothing wrong about that I just noticed that its easy bait for those mediums to pounce and make big bucks out of.

I wouldn't blame them either it's got all the ... read more

Skinny Puppy - Bites

Absolutely fascinating! I didn't really get it at first but on the track "Film" it just clicks for me. FYI I was listening to the extended version so I basically had a double albums worth of music to digest and even through the hour and thirteen minutes runtime I didn't get the impression that this was bloated though I was too immersed into the atmosphere too really notice or care about petty stuff like that. What matters is that I really enjoyed myself with this and once you get used ... read more

S.O.D. - Speak English or Die

The edgy 12 year old me that thinks swear words are hilarious and the more offensive the funnier would absolutely LOVE this crazy ass album. I am twice that age now and while the extreme edge played off for laughs gets crickets out of me I still had a smirk or two out of the sheer ridiculous fun these guys must of had making this stupid album. So I can't be to mad at this. They knew what they wanted and went all out, which earns my reluctant respect though I would prefer they be a bit more ... read more

Cocteau Twins - Tiny Dynamine

I enjoyed the instrumental track "Ribbed and Veined" and the other three songs were decent but failed to leave much of an impression. Overall it was an ok EP.

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
65

Not the best or innovative prog rock out there. The voice while solid does hold back from feeling the messaging of the album. And while enjoyable enough the production doesn't do that much either. Regardless I did enjoy the two long tracks with many titles and Heart of Lothian. It's a solid experience and I really appreciate how cohesive and smooth the first half of the album was but it all just doesn't add up quite enough for me to consider it an overall "good" experience even though ... read more

Hüsker Dü - Flip Your Wig

Eh. Got nothing from this. The baby song was silly enough I guess and it definitely stood out. But yeah this is just background music for me.

Possessed - Seven Churches

On the [REDACTED] day the Lord blessed the world with Death Metal. Even though many just see it as just thrash being dramatic it's still the start of a metal subgenre regardless. I was meh on this one.

八神 純子 [Junko Yagami] - Communication

It's a pretty generic city pop album that doesn't do anything particularly memorable.

Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm

While I doubt that I'll remember this album past today I still found it a fascinating experience.

"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."

On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
