R.E.M. - Fables of the Reconstruction

Pretty Monotonous for me. Each song just blends into the next.

Yello - Stella

It's both an interesting and a irritating experience with me both being intrigued by the uniqueness and annoyed by how brash it gets. It's certainly not for everyone and I wouldn't blame you if you hated it. Cause it can be a bit much. I did enjoy a couple of songs though.

Cheesy hair metal. It's got its appeal but I find it more obnoxious when it's not generic.

Propaganda - A Secret Wish

800th review yay!🎉🎊

This album is a bit too eager and try-hard with the synths for me to connect but I like the spirit and unapologetic boldness to hold nothing back. I did enjoy a couple of tracks so it wasn't a complete failure to connect with this EXTREMELY 80's album. Like it's AGGRESSIVELY 80's. A bit too much for my taste but at least it wasn't boring in the slightest!

I didn't get it at first but then the thought popped up in my head that this is basically if Ghost was a speed metal band from the 80's and yeah it clicked hard and I was having a straight up BLAST with this hell of an album. The high did fall away eventually and by the last few songs I was back to almost apathy again. So yeah this album has it's highs and lows and if it clicks you'll have SO much fun with it. But it's not perfect, or even close to it. So don't be expecting a speed metal ... read more

Black Flag - The Process of Weeding Out

Surprise! I have tested positive for covid-19 for the first time since July 2022! And I would have never known that I even had it if my parents weren't super sick the past few days. I do have the every day scratchy throat which is constantly tempting me to cough but I know that won't do anything so stay scratchy bitch! Otherwise I am A-OK and would have excused my throat as everyday spring allergies. Now I can still go to work since I am usually alone in a large building cleaning all day so ... read more

Anthrax - Spreading the Disease

Yeah this does nothing for me like most thrash metal.

Kagami Smile - Glisten

Other than sheer commitment to listening to their entire Discography I don't know why I even bother with this artist. No offense intended but I can trace my original bias against ambience towards check-in this artist out and just getting repetitive ambient tracks that go nowhere for like 10 minutes each. Very exciting I know. But since I am in this deep I might as well go all the way.

GhostMinus - Prove a Point
75

A surprise mixtape with old stuff finally brought out to the sunlight with some of the fresh shit straight out the noggin and ready to be put into ours. Ghostminus is back!

Ghost said that this is a cloud rap mixtape and I have very little experience with cloud rap so I am not qualified to say anything about it yet so I am going to be treating this as a good taste test to what to expect. But that could be leading me astray since this could be something experimental and shouldn't be associated ... read more

twelfth - sit in silence

Thanks @twelthcard for reaching out to me for the lead single fo your upcoming EP out later this month.

You said that the genres for this short less than three minute track were Shoegaze, Alt-rock, and Emo. And after listening to this I can attest that you are correct this is very much those genres. It's too bad that I don't really care all that much about them. It all sounds about the same to me and it's good music sure, but I feel like some grungy teenager dying my hair black listening to ... read more

Big Daddy Kane - Long Live the Kane

Damn there's just something about the charm of early hip hop that brings a smile to my face. Yes it's very basic stuff especially by today's standards and it's very of it's time. Still though some of these tunes still hit in 2024 and clever rhymes and solid flows will always be appreciated. This stuff is often viewed as pretty cheesy these days but for 1988 you don't often find hip hop LPs with this amount of quality to them. Again the genre was brand spanking new and artists were throwing shit ... read more

Owen - At Home With Owen

I may appreciate this album more than I enjoyed it but this is a very pleasant emo/folk album. I may not be the audience for it but I can tell that this can easily have an impact for many of others.

Morcheeba - Charango

Solid stuff don't need the hip hop and rapping stuff. The album was just fine without them.

Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine

Is it an AOTY contender? No. But that didn't stop me from having the vast majority of these very satisfying songs into my ever growing playlist. It's just such a pleasant listen and everything mixes together so nicely. Her voice is just perfection that she doesn't need to do much to have me under it's spell. The production is just so sharp and satisfying. This is a very well crafted RnB and pop with yes and giving the club vibes out of nowhere but it somehow fits. Overall I really enjoyed ... read more

of Montreal - Yung Hearts Bleed Free

I have heard a song or two of Of Montreal and I have always enjoyed what I have heard and with this first single for their upcoming Album, I liked it. The production is the king for me with how unhinged and fun it is. The vocals are kinda in that quirky sphere that gets placed on weird-core Songs and I usually don't care for them since it trends a bit too goofy for me. It's tolerable for this song but I can only handle so much before cringing. Otherwise this is a nice first taste for the ... read more

Gisli Gunnarsson - Wings of Glass

Very ethereal and pretty. I can understand what they are singing about and no lyrics are available, but I bet it's a very whimsical fairytale with a brutal ending to explain why it suddenly goes so hard right at the end. Irregardless this is such a larger than life track that I am very happy that YouTube music, my preferred music app, recommended it to me! It really is an awesome single!

Judas Priest - Invincible Shield
80

Judas Priest has been my favorite classic metal band of the ones I have listened to at this point. Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are close seconds and are probably objectively better than the priest. But this band met my preferences for classic metal more accurately and I found them more fun so they have my heart right now.

When I found out that they had a new album coming out I honestly got super excited to see if they still have the spice, spirit, and ferocity that I have enjoyed so much ... read more

I Break Horses - Warnings

Ok that last track is just cheating. I can't I but adore singing auto tuned into sounding like a robot. It's such a weak point and I love every time!

But the rest of this album like many here have stated reminds you more of Beach House with their Dream pop vibes. I am kinda hit and miss with this particular genre of music but I think this is solid enough that I never really got bored with it. Still the highlights are few and far between.

This single composing of three tracks are a comfort listen for me ever since I first discovered it and this amazing artist back in the fall of 22. I often find myself coming back to this album and think of it randomly at least once a month. I even catch myself humming the melodies from time to time. It's just such a quality 10 minute single from a humble artist that is always exploring, experimenting and evolving. In this single Eagle focuses on synths mixed the acoustic guitar with some ... read more

"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
