Ariana Grande - yes, and?

Y'all are Drunk and High cause this shit is amazing!

I've been WAITING for this dream collaboration for YEARS and it's everything I have been hoping for! Mariah enhances an already contagiously fun track to another level and they got that chemistry on point like I knew they would! I need a collaboration album with these two legends yesterday but with this awesome track my hunger is sated for now but I WANT MORE!

Y'all stay hating Ima stay raving!

Chaka Khan - I Feel For You

I really enjoyed the track "I Feel for You". Everything else was ok dance music just nothing I found all that engaging.

David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees

I don't know what happened. Shit was just not hitting, then I came across "Weathered Wall" and I was just all over it to finish the album off. So while the album definitely has a strong finish I can't remember what happened within the rest of the album and I just finished it. Overall I guess it's a decent experience with a particularly strong finish.

Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets II

I find this interesting in concept of it being a mixture of punk, country with a hint of Psychedelia. But at least to me it lacks in execution. I honestly found this as background music that gave no reason to pay any particular attention to so I just let the tracks fly by with no impact or impression left behind. I guess this is just not for me.

Black Flag - My War

Where was THIS Black Flag all this time??? Holy Shit that was awesome!

Before I have always viewed this band as some edgy teenagers playing loud and annoying music in the band with the parents ready to kick them to the curb. Now they are pseudo punk-metal band with the rawest tracks this side of the Mississippi and it fucking RULES! I was absolutely shocked at how much I loved this album! It doesn't let go in its intensity and only gets more crazy as it goes along! If anything this album is ... read more

Daniel Johnston - Retired Boxer

For some reason I found this not a charming as his previous work. It's still the Daniel that I know, but the music doesn't have the impact that was there before. Yes I still enjoyed a few songs but a lot of this humble record didn't do much for me unfortunately.

I did notice that he is getting better with the instrumental with the piano being more crisp and to my knowledge the first usage of a Guitar. So while still very much indie and DIY, it's a step up which is nice.

Cocteau Twins - The Spangle Maker

I just didn't get anything out of this.🤷‍♀️

Echo & the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
65

Like their last album a lot of this is left to be desired music that is basically background music. Also like their last album there's still plenty to enjoy regardless. The songs that I found enjoyable are mostly in the back half which saved my overall judgement from being more harsh than it is currently. IDK. It's good when it's good it's whatever otherwise. Decent effort overall with hopes of improvements.

Recs:
- Crown of Thorns
- The Killing Moon
- Seven Seas
- My Kingdom

Very pretty instrumentation that does get a bit samey at times, but it can still strike even if you get a bit tired of it. The tracks with the singing are fine as well but I wasn't feeling them as much generally. Overall it's a fine album that's a nice listen, but nothing I consider anything all that significant.

Recs:
- The World is as Soft as Lace
- The Optimist an the Poet
- A Preacher in New England

The Blue Nile - A Walk Across the Rooftops
75

It's a bit more hit or miss than I wanted it to be cause if it was a bit more consistent this would be a Phenomenal record that would easily be considered as a contender for AOTY. The mixture of that voice with the rich production is too much to not adore!

Recs:
- A Walk Across the Rooftops
- Tinseltown in the Rain
- Stay
- Automobile Noise

Wham! - Make It Big
80

Ah the soulful sexy Voice of George Michael. The charming 80's pop production. How catchy and aging like a fine wine the main singles are. Yup. This is a certified banger that has easily passed the test of time. There's just so much to like out of this classic record, and if you haven't checked out Wham or if you've been sleeping under a rock and have never heard of their iconic singles then I HIGHLY encourage you to go sti to this album and give it a listen!

Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward

It's a decent synthpop album with the highlights for me being "People are People" and "Blasphemous Rumors".

This Mortal Coil - It'll End in Tears
75

The soft rock tracks are whatever but the Ethereal/ Ambient shit was just awesome as it was serene. If the whole album was like that the I would easily have a better perception of it overall but it is what it is. The album gets good at "Fyt" and other that a track or two that I didn't care for, it's that almost ambient goodness all the way!

Recs:
- Fyt
- Fond Affections
- The Last Ray
- Waves Becomes Wings
- Barramundi

Scorpions - Love at First Sting
50

Boring overplayed radio rock.

Pale Cocoon - 繭
65

It's decent. I am always provided something at least semi-interesting to listen to throughout the fifty minute experience. You can't pay me to tell you what's my favorite part cause I was just vibing the whole time. But nothing stood out as particularly bad or good and I had a swell time with it.

Metal Church - Metal Church
50

Everything bleeds together it's so monotonous.

Slayer - Haunting the Chapel
55

First it was Jazz, then it was Ambience, then it was punk, now my mortal enemy is thrash metal. I have found the appeal to all the other genres but I have yet to find an album of this genre that I actually enjoy. And this Slayer EP didn't change my mind. I actually did like the closer "Aggressive Perfector" so take that as you will. But I still was mostly bored with this EP and was just waiting for it to be over.

"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
