The Weeknd - Thursday

Solid stuff but it's just not at the level of House of Balloons. I'm surprised Drake actually did his part in that feature quite well tho. Good stuff all around but Weeknd could do better.

I haven't dived into a Discography of a popular artist in about a year since I binged through Miley Cyrus' which was quite the experience both good and VERY bad with a whole lotta mediocre muddling shit up. ( I actually liked her latest album and think it's her second best effort with the obvious and popular pick "Plastic Hearts" being my favorite and I hope she explores that avenue again in a future album cause it suits her so well!) So I decided why not pick the Weeknd for this ... read more

Frankie Rose - Herein Wild

So decent and strikingly ok that I am almost offended by it. You aren't going to miss much if you skip over this album cause it ain't offering much. But if you were to check it out it won't waste your time but it won't enhance it much either. It's nice background music to be sure but it's pretty damn forgettable.

Some decent tunes:
- You For Me
- Sorrow
- Into Blue
- Minor Times
- Heaven
- Street of Dreams

GHOST DATA - Void Walker

Who doesn't love a demon waifu proudly sitting on her throne like the queen she is?

I discovered Ghost Data back in early 2022 and really enjoyed what I had heard. Enough so that I had one of my earliest attempts of going through an entire Discography of an artist. I made it up to this album but never picked it up from there. Their early work is very hit or miss but the hits are are can't misses that really exemplify the potential this artist had. Now that we are several albums in they are ... read more

Some pretty good Post Rock that's kept brief and to the point.

Grimes - Miss Anthropocene

I feel like I'm in an exclusive nightclub in 2080 getting my new cybernetics with this shit bumping loudly in the background!

It's been a long time since I listened to Grimes and had never checked this latest LP of hers and contrary to some people's beliefs she didn't really fall off for this album. It's more of an adjustment of focus than anything and there's nothing wrong with that as long as the music is still good and the music is still very good! It may have a bit of a slow start but ... read more

Chill, nostalgic, and a bit surreal. Yup it's a chillwave album alright! It's nothing you won't expect from just looking at the cover and that's exactly the appeal! You know what you're getting yourself into and you know you're going to enjoy it! It ain't amazing but there's plenty of tracks that are plenty enjoyable!

Tom MacDonald & Adam Calhoun - New World Order
NR

"Cause when you're nWo you're nWo 4-4-4-4 lyfe!"

I didn't even touch this song. I just saw the title and thought of 90's wrestling. No need for ratings cause they already know that they have millions ( AND MILLIONS!) Of eyes on them already. Also wrestling sucks and so do these loser nerds.

Mac DeMarco - Rock and Roll Night Club

Pretty mediocre debut for Mac Demarco. Nothing about this caught my attention or interest.

Jam City - Pillowland

This album got me feeling like that apple fr fr.

Honestly I think this album is a nice warm up for people who want to give 100gecs an honest try but can't get over their, well EVERYTHING. It's unhinged and unapologetic but it has a softer blow and is a bit more accessible to the public ear. Not that I would play this in public. Still this Album is a whole ass trip and I highly encourage any 100 gecs fan to check this out! Lots of great stuff in here!

Side note that has absolutely nothing to do with this song and is all about an entirely different song from an entirely different artist but I do what I want no one can stop me! I have always dismissed "Pretty In Possible" by Caroline Polachek. It seemed kinda weirdly unfinished to me like that's it? That's the song? It's nice I guess but you would think that there would be more to it. Then over the months Spotify occasionally kept playing this damn song against my will . I at first ... read more

Milk & Bone - Little Mourning

A beautifully produced record that does get a bit samey and stick to a pattern enough for five year olds to notice it and almost expect the shift near the end of a good amount of the songs. Also that generic white boy rapper on that one song wasn't needed. I did really enjoy the ladies harmonious singing and again that production is on point! Overall this album may have some glaring flaws but the high points of it are just as apparent. There's a few songs that keeps to the good shit so just ... read more

Metronomy - The English Riviera

A nice chill album with some very engaging New Wave to bring things to that next level. I was pretty ok with the first half of the album,I liked what I heard but it lacked any oomph until "The Bay" kicks things into the next gear. From then on I was really enjoying myself and loved almost everything the album was giving me! Fantastic B-side that can't be missed! The album really surprised me in how good it gets as it goes along so be sure to stick it out if you're not feeling it at ... read more

It's ok Psych Folk. It does the job well and doesn't do anything all that drastic. A bit safe to be anything significant but is a solid enough listen.

Windows 96 - Dated New Aesthetic

I'm seeing a lot of hating on this latest installment to the discography of Windows 96. Calling a lot of derogatory terms such as boring and amateur. I recently went through the discog of this guy and while I have been disappointed by an album or two I never found anything they have offered to be considered bad as of yet.

I have actually heard a couple of songs from this album cause of Spotify playing it on my "Discover New Songs" TikTok-esque deal which is a fantastic place to ... read more

GhostMinus - Painless Senseless

Man I have been listening to too much 80's music recently that I haven't even touched anything from this year yet and January is already almost over! Thanks Ghostminus reached out to me a few days ago asking me to check out their mixtape in which I am more than happy to do so.

I was going to complain about this not being a 100% cohesive experience with some songs jankily transitioning into each other that kinda jars the listener, but then I saw the mixtape label and realized that doesn't ... read more

Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues

Well won't you look at that. Talking Heads actually put out a pretty good album that didn't bore me. It might be because I haven't heard from them since October, and in the time since I actually developed a taste that suited their skills better. Nah they just got gud like they should!

Seriously though while I am that one guy that doesn't get the hype over this band I can appreciate their lasting legacy and the far reaching impressions the have left on the multitudes that have heard them. It ... read more

杏里 [Anri] - Timely!!

I have honestly soured a bit on City Pop in general since a lot of the albums I listen out of that genre kinda sound the same to me and I am mostly bored with it. That's not to say this particular album doesn't have a gem or two mixed within it. I just don't get as much as I used to from this kind of music unfortunately.

Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks

Some nice ambience from Mr Ambience Himself with some help with his brother and Daniel Lanois.

I liked the first half of industrial yet serene-esqe ambience. I imagine myself exploring an abandoned Mineshaft. It got the wonder of adventure mixed with the unnerving feeling of foreboding darkness warning that you shouldn't be here. It is an interesting juxtaposition that fascinated me enough even though a good amount of the traditional Ambient tracks didn't leave much of a strong impression on ... read more

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
