Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath
45

The metal Instrumentation is epic, but that screechy voice is too grating on my ears that it just ruins everything. I hate it!

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Hyæna
55

Eh. I'm not really feeling this one unfortunately. I liked "Take me Back" and the closer "Blow the House Down", but everything else was pretty whelming. I understand that this is a transition album and yeah it definitely feels like it cause I struggled find any real identity out of this experience.

Foetus - Hole
95

I mean. It's industrial rock with the 80's goofy charm. What more could you ask for?! This is everything I wanted it to be and more. I get that this may not me everyone's cup of tea because of how unapologetically unhinged it's diving head first into the goofy and edginess. But it's like it was crafted just for me cause personally I had a fucking blast! I loved everything except for "Sick Man" so honestly go off and listen to this album for yourself if you're interested! I hope you ... read more

The Cars - Heartbeat City

The quintessential 80's album. If someone hasn't ever heard anything from this decade and is curious about what it's all about, I just have to rely on this LP to tell them everything they need to know! It's so 80's that I am overdosing which somehow makes it even more 80's. It's a front to back party that never looses momentum and I fucking love it!

The only reason it ain't a hundred is because I thought the last two songs were a bit weak and even if they were of the same quality as the rest ... read more

The Go-Betweens - Spring Hill Fair

It's ok Jangle Pop. Mildly catchy and a lot of break up tunes. Not too bad of a start of my exploration of the year 1984.

Recs:
- Five Words ( I have heard this song on the throwback 80's radio a time or two.)
- Part Company
- River of Money

Salami Rose Joe Louis - Akousmatikous

Oh man it's so good to listen to some damn good Psychedelia. It's been too long since I got the good stuff. No need for drugs when this music does plenty enough to send your mind wild! But seriously this is genuinely some fantastic and very engaging music that never gets old no matter how much I listen! That's not to say that this album is a masterpiece cause it's pretty inconsistent in the first half. It still comes around strong for the finish to finish me off into my subconscious. If this ... read more

AURORA - Running with the Wolves

Man what a Majestic voice!

AURORA offers a pretty solid EP with some tight Instrumentation that doesn't overshadow the shine that is her voice that is in its rightful spot as the primary character of the EP. While every song has it's own highlights the two songs "Running With the Wolfs" and "Little Not in the Grass" are particular standouts. I have heard of AURORA out in the wild a time or two and with this first real impression of her I can't say that I am not impressed! ... read more

Claud - Super Monster

Decent Decent and Decent.

There's some good music in this humble LP but it's really nothing essential. It doesn't waste my time but doesn't really do much with that time. It is a good listen at times but that's about it. Check the recs if ya want but it's nothing that'll blow your mind.

Recs:
- In or In-between
- Ana (ft. Nick Hakim)
- Guard Down
- This Town
- That's Mr. Bitch to You (ft. Melanie Faye)

Crater - Talk To Me So I Can Fall Asleep
60

A decent album with some interesting production happening. While only a few tracks manage to land for me nothing offered in this album is truly mediocre. There's always something happening to keep your attention going. Not bad at all.

Recs:
- Habits Die Slow
- Gross Relations
- Brew

Maggie Rogers - Now That The Light Is Fading

I personally didn't get much out of this. I liked the closer "Better" but everything else in the EP didn't do anything for me.

tomcbumpz - Don't Look Down
75

Tomcbumpz has a Godly jawline just look at that pic on his Spotify about the artist page. His mew game is on point!

But enough of the Chad himself. Despite the metal looking cover art this is more of a collection of short chiptune ambient tracks that has that Minecraft vibe to them and are fitting for TikTok core videos that pop up on your FYP page at two in the morning. Despite their short length and relatively simple structure, most of these tracks easily grabs your attention and sends you ... read more

The Weeknd - Dawn FM

"You gotta be Heaven to see Heaven"

While this album doesn't leave as strong of an impression as After Hours it still has such a unique identity whilst staying within the synthpop genre. It's got a strong start but somewhere along the blissful journey beyond mortality the radio station becomes background music as you start to wonder if this is all the afterlife has to offer. Right at the end the music captures the soul once more as you ready yourself to venture beyond the viel and ... read more

The Weeknd - After Hours

Oh man am I stupid excited to revisit this album after almost four years. I had faith and Blinded by the Lights on goddamn repeat throughout the covid lockdowns as the world collapsed in the chaos that I am numb to today. I don't know if anyone else is starting to get nostalgic for 2020 but I kinda am. What a weird, horrible yet beautiful and unique time to be a part of. I would want to do it again but then realize that I would want millions around the world to suffer a new strange disease ... read more

Caroline Polachek - Butterfly Net

70->80 It grew on me, it's pretty great.

Initial review:
I honestly don't know what about this single warrants such a high score. I understand the hype since two artists this site really enjoys are collaborating but it seems to be just that fact alone is reason enough to be spamming 100s all over the place. I may have my unpopular opinions but this is just a solid track that has a nice steady pace with some pretty instrumentation and elements to spice up the soundscape a bit. I liked it ... read more

The Weeknd - My Dear Melancholy,

I liked Call out my Name. Everything else is pretty disposable for me.

The Weeknd - Starboy
65

Hit and miss. There's a streak of two or three songs that I enjoy followed by two or three songs I don't care for. It's a decent record over all but I would have liked for more consistency.

Recs:
- Reminder
- Rockin'
- Stargirl Interlude
- Sidewalks
- A Lonely Night
- Attention
- Ordinary Life
- Die For You
- I Feel it Coming

The Weeknd - Beauty Behind The Madness

Finishes "Angel"...

I think I ascended.

Holy FUCK that back half.

HOLY FUCK THE FUCKIN NOSTALGIA!!!!

I need to take a shit and a shower brb...

I'm back and it's the next day. Forgot to get back to this. Honestly I think my initial reaction says it all. But I'll reiterate, when you get even fucking Ed Sheeran to sound good you have something special. Not to forget that phenomenal Lana feature as well. This and the big singles that brings ALL of the nostalgia of being a carefree ... read more

The Weeknd - Kiss Land

Surprisingly weak effort by the Weeknd. Was really all that impressed by this album. I liked a few tracks but most of it felt pretty mediocre to me.

Recs:
- The Town
- Adaptation
- Love in the Sky

GhostMinus - Session
65

Whoa new EP from Ghostminus! This takes thing in a direction that I wasn't expecting in that it more of a grunge rock and a bit post rock instead of the damn solid breakcore that I have become accustomed to. Interesting to see that Painless senseless originally was going to be in this direction would be interesting to see a full project with this new genre. Now for this EP the tracks themselves are generally pretty half cooked and while what is offered in the brief runtimes of each song is ... read more

The Weeknd - Echoes Of Silence
95

Holy Fuck.

It's like a more consistent House of Balloons. Everything is so fucking amazing! Well except for that one one guy ruining the ending of one of the best songs of the tape "Same Old Song" and I wasn't really feeling "Montreal" for whatever reason. Otherwise this shit is just peak. HIGHLY recommend you check this out!

Shout out to MJ and the Weeknd for sounding just like him.

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."

On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
