Doom Guy's boss music. No wonder the demons are terrified. This shit is about thrashy as thrash metal can get. Ridiculously fast and intense. Ridiculously edgy and disgusting lyrics. Insane but brief guitar solos. A nasty vocalist that is just as quick as the tempo if not quicker.

I totally understand why this is as acclaimed and influential as it is in the metal world and is acclaimed as THE standard for thrash metal by some to this day. Personally I ain't the biggest fan of the subgenre in ... read more

Paul Simon - Graceland
85

Well now this was just nice.

I love the festive feel and the celebration of African culture presented in this album. Paul still has that kind charm from his Simon and Garfunkel days and the fresh paint of exploring the mixture of traditional and modern sounds with elements from the old and new worlds to make a harmonious, beautiful and fulfilling album that can be enjoyed at anytime! Great stuff!

Big Black - Atomizer

Decent stuff. Moderately engaging. It's ok. I liked Kerosene and Bazooka Joe. The rest you can take or leave.

XTC presents easily their finest work to date with the production magic from the mad genius Todd Rundgren who always excites me whenever I see his name. We got some authentic psychedelic throwbacks with a modern feel especially for 1986. It's a welcome surprise to finally have an album from these cats that I have thoroughly enjoyed with its variety and experiments throughout the 45 minute runtime. Everything works together so well and makes for a very satisfying listen. It's so good and is ... read more

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Tinderbox
55

Siouxue and the Banshees have always been hit or miss for me and unfortunately this album is mostly a miss for me. Like it's decent and they do everything well, but I just don't connect with it. I liked " This Unrest", but other than that I found it pretty whatever.

Soda Stereo - Signos

A strong new wave album with some fun engaging production and great vocals as well. Just solid at worst and watch out for when it's great. Really enjoyed myself with this one!

This is indeed Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Took a bit to warm up to it but yeah this shit fucking rules! 🤘🤘🤘

Nurse with Wound - Spiral Insana

Strange, weird, and unique. That about covers it and yeah nothing it brings to the table gives enough reason for me to return to it. It was quite the experience to go through though.

Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring
55

With how much hype that's been built up for this band from reading reviews here and there on my feed I found this first real impression to be pretty underwhelming. I liked the opener just fine then it all became just fine. Nothing all that exciting tbh. Almost got bored even at points. Oh well, can't win them all.

Janet Jackson - Control
65

Damn. I may have a new celebrity crush.

I was a bit dismissive with this record at first saying that it's more of that generic 80's pop that's fun but I have heard it a billion times. Then the pleasure principle rolls around and demands I fall in deep love and I just could not resist. Then the last three songs in their sexy charm has me in a god damn puddle ready for Janet to slurp up if she pleases. She can flush my ass down the toilet I don't care as long as she acknowledges my existence ... read more

Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
80

It's so nice to take comfort in the fact that Iron Maiden are as dependable as it gets for putting out quality metal time and time again. ( At least in their 80's prime) I mean there's really not much new to say about them at this stage of their career since they got the formula perfected at this point and gad damn what a formula it is! From Soaring vocals to the outstanding guitar play. To the force drumming to the sexy bass. Add some smart usage of the synths and some fantastic lyrics to ... read more

Depeche Mode - Black Celebration
85

With its inventive and inspiring dark atmosphere and futuristic feel for a not so utopian future Black Celebration is an early
triumph for one of my absolute favorite genres darkwave! It's fun, engaging, interesting, and just so damn consistent. The atmosphere is broody but not intimidating. Sultry but also a bit depressing. The voice of the lead singer fits the unique atmosphere so well it like they were manufactured to be a two piece puzzle for toddlers. So if you want to join the dark side ... read more

Megadeth - Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?
75

Huh. Thrash metal that's accessible and fun. Who woulda thunk it?! I have actually heard this album as well as all of Megadeth's early classics back in the covid lockdowns when I initially discovered Metallica and other 80's metal bands. I found this album to be the best of the Megadeth that I have listened to and hearing it once more almost four(!) years later I am surprised at just how enjoyable this was! This is straight up headbanging fun! For the whole family to enjoy! Including the dead ... read more

Kreator - Pleasure to Kill

Like so so much of other thrash metal I found this to be more tedious than anything else.

吉村弘 [Hiroshi Yoshimura] - Green
70

I got reminded of both the Super Mario Galaxy and Minecraft OSTs listening to this ambient album from the one and only Hiroshi Yoshimura. I have heard a stray track here or there from algorithms over the years and I have always enjoy what was being offered. With this proper dive into a full release I can't say that I was dissatisfied. Was there misses? Yeah. We're there blissful hits? absolutely! It's a very pleasant ambient album that can be played for casual relaxation, or to pass time whilst ... read more

Arthur Russell - World of Echo
55

A strange abstract LP that is definitely not for everyone and I guess that includes me cause it just didn't do it for me. I get that it's in the name of the album, but it's too echoey for my taste. Plus things don't really go anywhere, which again I get that's the point, but that's not what I want most of the time with
exceptions. It doesn't do anything offensive or "bad" it's just nothing that I would consider fun or even interesting. At least "Being It" was good I guess.

Peter Gabriel - So

Not the best that I have heard from Peter but he still has that magic touch when it counts. Good stuff.

Holy shit that was INSANE!

That fucking soundscape is ridiculously rich! I need more albums like this in my life cause holy fuck was I missing out! This had my ass Enchanted, mesmerized and hypnotized from start to finish and I can only describe it as exotic and magical. What a fucking trip this one of a kind album is and I am so happy that got to experience it today for the first time! The cover art is just as legendary! Coil - Horse Rotorvator

A wild wacky ride full of twists and turns and do many things you just was not prepared for. It's a very interesting experience to say the least. Definitely not for everyone but if you like when music goes a lil weird and strange and crazy then check this album out.

"@AidenBowe45 He reminds of Paul McCartney at points with how passionately he sings and the instrumental goes crazy. It's a fun album for sure!"
On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
