Classic punk+ Brazilian spice= a good time!

Unfortunately a good amount of the album settles for plain old Classic punk which is fine, but that's so 1981. It's 1986 now so there needs to be something extra to capture my attention. And they do by putting in some tropical feels into the mix with a dash of funk ( ok a lot of funk) and they got the secret recipe ripe to be stolen by plankton. So while they got that shit pumping I had a great time, otherwise it was just ok. Overall this is a pretty ... read more

Legião Urbana - Dois

I was mostly indifferent to this album then out of nowhere the last three songs slapped me in the face and I had a great time to finish off my listen! That's not to say the album was boring or anything. It did plenty to keep my attention just didn't do much to leave any impression with that said attention. I'll just say that this is a decent listen with a surprisingly strong finish so be sure to stick around if you're not really feeling it cause you will be rewarded!

Sonic Youth - EVOL

Starts off stupid strong with otherworldly tracks that will just blow your socks off. Then it settles back to earth a bit with all in all damn solid tracks but they just aren't at the level of the insane start. Great album overall though really enjoyed it!

Drop everything and listen to this magnetic gorgeous one of a kind masterpiece holy fuck I am floating! It's just perfection and heavenly and the tears of sheer serenity have slowed down my cheeks multiple times listening to each and every note. God this shit is amazing! Yesterday I was wearing those specialized glasses and had the fortune to experience 97% coverage of the eclipse. The temptation to travel 50 miles south to see the once in a lifetime spectacle was immense but traffic was ... read more

Cocteau Twins - Love's Easy Tears
55

The mixing is always so weird with Cocteau Twins projects that I never understand a single word that's being sung. It could be lead singer not prioritizing ununciation to enhance the otherworldly whimsy that got the band as popular as it is as well. Whatever it is I always find that being a little bug that buzzes through my head every time I listen to this band. This EP is no different and with it sounding like just another CT side project with no distinct identity I didn't really enjoy this as ... read more

Prince and The Revolution - Parade (Music From the Motion Picture Under the Cherry Moon)

I appreciate princes unapologetic forward March into new ideas and experiments to keep things new and fresh. But with risks there's also misses. And while he has some solid hits here and there, I don't think the overall effort is gonna win the baseball game. It was an interesting one to say the least, but nothing that I would call a highlight of his illustrious career. Kiss tho, what a fuckin grand slam he nailed that shit so at least with that one track this album leaves it's own impact. I ... read more

New Order - Brotherhood

Whelp. Another New Order album that just doesn't click. Oh well.

菊池桃子 [Momoko Kikuchi] - Adventure

The synths while magical does get pretty one note after hearing them for a few tracks in a row. Same for her pretty voice. Like I enjoyed this at first but grew pretty tired of it relatively quickly. "Akai Inazuma" adds enough dynamism such as a nice funky bass and backing vocals to wake me back up. The rest of the following tracks do plenty enough to keep my engagement up as well as my enjoyment. Overall this is a damn solid city pop album to add to the collection. I guess it has a ... read more

A beautiful new age album with absolutely gorgeous mid 80's production and the sweet sweet voice of Beverly to sooth all the little children who hear this calming music off to a gentle rest for the night. Sweet dreams.

吉村弘 [Hiroshi Yoshimura] - Soundscape 1: Surround

Calm, soothing, and gentle. Could have crying babies dead asleep in five minutes flat. Stressed out adults in ten. There's no hope for you unfortunately. You'll never see a wink of sleep ever again.
It's some good ambience, and in it's gentle serenity I found myself in such a state of calm and contentedness that I was convinced for a bit that everything is going to be just fine. So if you need a good dose of that kind of thing, then I recommend you check this album out.

The Fall - Bend Sinister

Well that's rare. A The Fall album with music that I actually enjoyed! Yeah they are few and far between, and they really aren't all that great, but hey they are kinda enjoyable! Even after listening to dozens and dozens of albums I am still not the biggest fan of the post-punk genre. I am a lot warmer to it than was back in the fall when I was having my first impressions and called Joy Division mid. I bet that if I relistened to those albums that spearheaded the punk revolution in the later ... read more

Frutiger Aero as all fuck!

This was such a a pleasure to listen to, I had a beaming smile the whole way though. Pure bliss I tell ya! Highly recommend you check out this fantastic and SUPER underrated album I guarantee you won't regret it!

Siekiera - Nowa Aleksandria

Pretty monotonous coldwave stuff. It's fine just nothing that strikes my fancy.

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends

Monotonous and generic AF. I'll be that guy and say the critics had good reason to rate this so low.

Anita Baker - Rapture

It's pretty and well executed soul music. Just not suited for me I guess since I didn't get anything out of it.

Saint Vitus - Born Too Late

I would demand a refund if this soundtracked "Doom" it's just SO underwhelming and boring.

Madonna - True Blue
60

Has Madonna ever seen the sun before? She's the very definition of white, hell her hair blends into the artic snow a little too well.

While it's a step in the right direction with some experimentation and exploration into some exotic influences I still found most of the album to me very commercialized and stale dated radio friendly tracks that doesn't age all that well. It's nothing bad just very much of its time and lacks the charm needed to bridge it's way to my heart. Liked a few songs but ... read more

On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."

On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
