Bend Sinister was a distinctly down affair -- not that the Fall were ever a shiny happy band, of course, but both music and lyrics seemed like a darker corner to dwell in.

*jaw drops to floor, eyes pop out of sockets accompanied by trumpets, heart beats out of chest, awooga awooga sound effect, pulls chain on train whistle that has appeared next to head as steam blows out, slams fists on table, rattling any plates, bowls or silverware, whistles loudly, fireworks shoot from top of head, pants loudly as tongue hangs out of mouth, wipes comically large bead of sweat from forehead*
Well that's rare. A The Fall album with music that I actually enjoyed! Yeah they are few and far between, and they really aren't all that great, but hey they are kinda enjoyable! Even after listening to dozens and dozens of albums I am still not the biggest fan of the post-punk genre. I am a lot warmer to it than was back in the fall when I was having my first impressions and called Joy Division mid. This album is great and has some of their best material too. It's not as incredible as their previous but it's still great. It's a shame however that Living Too Late and Auto Tech Pilot were left off the original Vinyl tracklist because those are some of their best especially Auto Tech Pilot which is straight-away my favorite from them easily. Maybe I've just listened to too much Injury Reserve but it's amazing.
