角松敏生 [Toshiki Kadomatsu] - Sea Is A Lady
95

It's been a little bit since I listened to a classic city pop album so regardless of quality I would find this a refreshing album. I didn't expect it to be amongst the best I have ever heard from the genre! This blew me away with the ludicrously fantastic production and the nostalgic vibes pricing my soul! This is such quality music that can be on repeat all summer long and nobody is going to complain! HUGE props to Toshiki Kadomatsu, what a stunning grand slam this album turned out to be!

Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence

Surprisingly decent thrash album. Didn't find as tedious as it's contemporaries. This is a rare occurrence so don't expect me to have a complete change of heart on the subgenre quite yet. But albums like this is a step in the right direction.

Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I

Took a bit to warm up to but this is a real fun power metal project with all of the cheese, all of the soaring vocals, and all of the epic guitar solos. It's a good time and never takes it'self too seriously. You can tell they had a blast with this and it's only a bonus that the music is great! Highly recommend you check it out if you're a fan of the genre.

Sepultura - Schizophrenia

Standard tedious thrash metal.

Pet Shop Boys - Actually
60

It's decent but a step down from my expectations for this album. The production is on point and the boys do their part well. I guess since it's about the same as they have done before with no real innovation or evolution, I was not as impressed this time around.

Sumo - After Chabón

I will say, they were not afraid to blend genres in unique ways to make for an interesting listen. Unfortunately anything past passively looking at the unique creature that's this album in a childlike fascination, leaves not much more for an even deeper and lasting impression. Still It's worth listening to and you will probably enjoy it even more than I have. I just don't think that I will be coming back or thinking much about this album after today.

Blind Idiot God - Blind Idiot God
50

Sure.

It's Noise/Math rock according to the genre labels, and with this first impression of those genres, I can't say that I am impressed. It's more tedious than anything. The lack of vocals or any kind of variety doesn't help either. I'm just left with stale water at the end of this 42 minute experience. I guess I will drink it.

Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love
70

A solid effort from Bruce with this album focusing on the troubles that love brings. I have always been captivated by his story telling abilities and this album is no exception. While it's not his strongest album I can't find too much fault in it other than some songs leaving weaker impressions than I would have liked. Still if you like Bruce, you'll like this album.

Jane Siberry - The Walking

Fascinating Art Pop. It's no Kate Bush but it does remind of her at times. From the whimsical feel, to the soft sweet ethereal voice. The production is pretentious and artsy just how I like it. If you're a fan of 80's Art Pop be sure to add this album to your listen list. I guarantee you that you won't regret it!

The Wedding Present - George Best

Man this Jangle pop sure is Jangly.

Yeah I ain't really feeling this one. It seems pretty standard to the genre as far as I have been exposed so far. Nothing here stands out, nor do I find all that interesting. I did like "What did your last servant die of?" So there's that I guess.

Whitney Houston - Whitney

Fire up your Smurfs dance party on the Wii cause it's time to fucking DANCE! 🪩

This album is just exquisite, just as amazing as Whitney's legendary voice. I mean holy fuck I wasn't expecting to have an AOTY contender this early into my dive of 1987 but damn is the bar set so high with this release. The charming, sharp, and timeless 80's production is such an addicting pleasure. The voice needs no introduction. The grooves, the goosebumps, ... read more

Thanks @emanny for letting me know about your new single.

It's a cute lil hip hop track. Does nothing new and keeps things straightforward and basic. Nothing wrong with it but can't say it's anything I'll remember a week from now. Irregardless, the YouTube video was fun to watch and you clearly had fun with it and this song. I look forward to your full release seems like I'll have a good time with it.

Paul McCartney - Tug of War

Damn solid album from McCartney. From him sounding like Stevie Wonder to collaborating with him. Also the variety of instruments and vibes throughout the album experience is very appreciated. It may not be a master class like Ram, but Paul definitely still has plenty in the bag to offer more than twenty years into his career of making innovative music for the world to enjoy!

Wel they definitely didn't hold back. This is weird-core on drugs and that aesthetic is already fucking gnarly. This is straight up insanity at times. I could hardly keep up or understand half the time. I commend them for taking this bold leap but damn does it leave the audience behind with no apologies. I did manage to wrangle "I gotta get some new friends" down, so you can check that one out at least. But if you want deep dive into the crazy why not check this unique album out?

Hallucinogen - Twisted

Man if only I did this yesterday. Anyways happy belated 4/20 day everyone who celebrates and is probably still celebrating. Here's a trippy AF Psytrance album from the mid nineties that should make your trip into a whole ass journey. Even if you don't smoke you'll feel like you are when you listen to this far out shit. Only real complaint I have is the weird silent part of the closer "Solstice" otherwise it's front to back consistent hypnotic trance music that's pretty great! ... read more

Euglossine - Canopy Stories

Interesting album with a slightly trippy cover. It's always doing something new to keep you on your toes and it's almost impossible to get bored of it. Still I can't quite call myself a fan of most of it since while things are kept engaging during the moment to moment action, there's no real lasting impact. I did enjoy a couple tracks, but most of it is left to be desired unfortunately.

The screeching vocals take quite awhile to adjust and warm up to but by the end of the album you will think that the album wouldn't be as crazy and interesting if the guy did go absolutely NUTS. The strange experimental Instrumentation reminds me at times of Faust's self titled album and Court of the Crimson King. So while it may hear like something you never heard before, those more familiar will know that this is pretty old school shit. While I don't think I will be returning to any track ... read more

The Beach Boys - The Beach Boys Today!

Man what wouldn't I give to witness the mid sixties when the mainstream music was in the middle of transforming, evolving and blossoming irreversibly into the greatness that we take advantage of to this day. The laid back and fun tracks of this album and so many others around this has that psychedelic vibe even before it became the central focus not to long after even though it was unintentional. This album is pretty significant for the Beach Boys cause it's the first to show that they are ... read more

While this is such a professionally done album that I couldn't find any thing that could be approved apon cause everything here is executed very well and is a great presentation. Still despite the strong performance I found the content itself to be kinda mediocre. I liked the opener and the infamous rocket man, but everything else just bleeds into the background a little too easily. I liked this album and appreciate its execution, but there's a certain element of oomph and heart that's left to ... read more

On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."

On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."

"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
