Swans - The Beggar
95

Alright let's get this two hours long with an album's length of a song included beast over with. Swans got a BIG reputation as one of the greatest bands ever and I haven't heard a single second of them until today. I also heard that this album is a lot better if you are family with their discography but I'll just relisten to it whenever I get that done...someday. I got a HUGE project that is going to take up to two and a half years to accomplish, so it's going to be a minute. Thankfully the ... read more

Another click of the magical "Random album" button has landed me on this one! I really like the album cover! Wallpaper material right there. And I have the honor of giving it its very first rating and review! Let's see what the music gods have blessed me with today...

Tiger's Eye: WOW that was honestly great! It's some good soft rock. That guitar solo is fantastic, and the lyrics are vague and up for interpretation! ( Or I am just bad at understanding the message they are trying to ... read more

The first half was pretty whatever, but then the very interesting and engaging "The Mind Electric" comes around. I thought the song at first being backwards it was kinda weird and a bit jank. Then the second it got reversed into normal, it was honestly one of the highlights of my week. The song becomes 10 times as good, and I probably won't think much of the song other than it being pretty good without the gimmick of it being reversed before you hear it properly. Very creative choice ... read more

Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True

Other than "Mystery Dance" it's a whole lotta meh

Giorgio Moroder - From Here to Eternity
90

If Daft punk was from the 70's.

I had a blast with this one! You just can't go wrong with elecrto-disco. The only song that didn't hit for me was "Lost Angeles" and even then it was still a good song. Fantastic album that I will be returning to often.

Rush - A Farewell to Kings
70

I really enjoyed the first two songs and that's mostly it. There are parts of the closer that I liked, but not enough to really recommend it. Still a good album overall. The other songs weren't bad enough to really sour me too much on the album.

Talking Heads - Talking Heads: 77

Is it just me or does this album really pick up in quality once "Don't Worry About the Government" comes around?

Like Before that song comes this album is pretty inoffensive yet pretty forgettable. Then afterwards it's like an entirely different experience. It's probably because it was quality all the way through but it took the song mentioned above for it all to click with my ears.

Anyways I'm rating based on my initial experience with the album and it's overall fine but with a ... read more

I feel like I have already heard this album a couple times already in other space/prog rock albums. It doesn't really do much to stand out to me. I like what I am hearing since I enjoy space/ prog rock as background music mostly. It does it's job well in taking me into outer space but I am kinda bored of doing it in generally the same way with a different band doing it. Again it's fine, but I would like something different and more engaging.

I did enjoy "Atlantis' Agony..." Can never ... read more

GOD this is so lame.

The Damned - Damned Damned Damned

I'm sorry this is made in the 70's?????

If I heard this in the wild and had to guess when this album came out my earliest guess would be like late nineties indie rock.
Hell even looking at the cover art you would NEVER think 70s. It's just SO ahead of its time! This must have blown so many boomers minds when they first heard this.

Once I got over this fact I realized how monotone this album is mostly. It's fast and fun, but there's little else to it.

That is until we get to "Feel ... read more

Donna Summer - I Remember Yesterday

The album was just ok for the first half. It had a jump in quality for the reprise of " I Remember Yesterday".

Then for "Black Lady" it's that Disco greatness that you either love it or you're lying to yourself. This is great stuff that will send me straight into Saturday night fever on a Tuesday evening. Donna Summer is the Queen of disco already!

"Can't We just Sit down" is a ballad that lacks any emotional punch unfortunately. She's got a beautiful voice ... read more

Weather Report - Heavy Weather

The opener was ok but forgettable.

"A remark You Made" is just so surreal and nostalgic. For what IDK but damn is it good!

While they weren't as impressive I also enjoyed "Teen Town" and "Harlequin"

I wasn't expecting "Rumba Mama" to be a live tribal detour from the nice electro-jazz, but I don't mind it. Even though it's pretty jarring at first.

Palladium is back to the jazzy greatness and it is right there with "A Remark You Made" as my ... read more

Suicide - Suicide

Interesting yet mediocre at the same time.

Ramones - Leave Home

This is just radio rock. And a channel turner radio rock at that.

The Japanese House - In The End It Always Does
55

Mostly a bore fest. Only song I liked was Sunshine Baby.

Grian Chatten - Chaos For The Fly

It's mostly just an ok listen, but the songs "The Score", "Bob's Casino" and especially "East Coast Bed" are stand outs.

Geese - 3D Country

I enjoyed Undoer, Crusades, and Mysterious Love.

The Beatles - Abbey Road

100th Review!

GOAT Album. What can I say about it that hasn't been said. I will say tho that medley is GODLY! If you haven't listened to this album yet, what are you doing with your life?

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life

WOW This is in close competition with Abbey Road for my favorite album of all time. Close but no cigar. Stevie Wonder just doesn't miss does he.

David Bowie - Station to Station

I only liked golden years for some reason.

"@frogofprog of course, all the songs listed in the review are great including the all time classic in War Pigs. I just think as an album experience as a whole it could be a bit better."

On Muddy Waters - After the Rain
"@AidenBowe45 I honestly am just too familiar with this kind of style of straightforward Blues, sure it's classic but I find it stale and uninteresting especially compared to other styles that bring more to the table of the genre that makes for more engaging listening."
On Herbie Hancock - Fat Albert Rotunda
"@AidenBowe45 Groovy, funky and takes you on a ride. I don't remember if it goes wildly off the track but I wouldn't be surprised if it did with an artist like Hancock at the wheel."

"@AidenBowe45 I mean it's not the definitive vaporwave experience, but if you're a fan of the genre then there's definitely some solid stuff here."
On girl in red - if i could make it go quiet
"@AidenBowe45 I am likely not the intended audience since I am a grown ass 26 year old listening to these lyrics. I may not be fully aware of what the kiddos are into these days, but when I was an edgy teenager in middle school, shit like this banged for the girlies."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@OldTask This album is definitely geared towards the artsy fartsy folks that appreciate just how deep into the rabbit hole this experience takes them. Definitely takes an experienced or a very open ear to truly "get it." Not everyone does, but the ones that do praise this shit up and down like I do."
On Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
"@Moosky This album is fit for a very particular meditative mindset you have to be in for the Inherent strangeness to pack as hard of a punch as it does. Like many albums I love this is like a sonic drug trip that is more to be experienced than enjoyed as regular music. This album has a legendary status because it goes deep into this surreal experimental soundscape unapologetically and not everyone is going to get it, but those who do are immensely rewarded. I recommend you to maybe expand your horizons and listen to ambient/Psychedelic/ experimental releases similar to this so your pallet is more used to what this amazing album has to offer. Cont."
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor You mentioned that across the board I have wild takes, are there more recent examples that raises your eyebrows?"
On David Bowie - Station to Station
"@Jakeisthedoctor Man I really should delete and reevaluate these albums I reviewed in my early days when my taste wasn't nearly as refined yet expansive as it is now. Back in 2023 I was throwing my inexperienced taste into classics head first with no idea what I was talking about. It's part of the reason why I am exploring the 60s and 70s again along with bolstering my limited playlists. To great success too with my 60s playlist going from 90 tracks to over 750 and growing as I am now appreciative of the greatness that I am consuming. I promise when I get to these albums again down the road, I will likely have a more reasonable take. For now, just enjoy how unhinged I was in 2023."
On Vapora - Oceanside Mall
"@frogofprog oh yeah, Vapora. I definitely had mixed feelings with this artist. They had some genuinely great vaporwave along with...well ones that missed the mark. Yeah I was a bit more loose with my reviews back in 2023 just experimenting with how I liked to present my reviews. It results in some reviews I am still proud of to some I just go crazy on. It is also an era where I was still forming my tastes on like twenty+ genres at once so don't take my early reviews that seriously."
On Drake - Scorpion
"@Triplo Thanks! I don't often have something to say about an album these days past a standard passing observation, but popular releases from the 2010s are a good way to get be talking at least a little bit."
On Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
"@RSmithFan What I meant was that this was the first album that felt like it was made in the eighties. Don't know why I phrased it that way either."
On Not Marshall - FRIDAY NIGHT A DRESS2IMPRESS MODEL HAS TO SHOW OFF HER NEW AFRO HAIRSTYLE
"@engar where? what? I don't see anything eyebrow raising."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw 👍 Whatever you say bud. I'll keep on doing what I do regardless of your berating."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Good for them and the people that praise their writing. That's not the reason I fell in love with music so I don't focus on it. And that is just as fine as those who do the opposite and completely mute the music and gush over the writing. Different strokes, we all appreciate art in our own individual ways."
On Fabrizio De André - Vol. 1°
"@I_love_chickenw Maybe I'll appreciate that part of the experience when I decide to give a shit about the lyrics. Until then, those pink floyd classics offer an amazing sonic experience regardless of whatever they are yapping about."
