Hey 50+ followers!
Thanks to every single one of you for deciding to follow little ol me who just states my opinions on the music I listen to. Much appreciated! Now the lucky user @ludahmed happened to be follower number 50 so I asked if they could recommend ANYTHING and after a bit of letting them know what I was in the mood for, they recommended me THIS album!
I have listened to M83's album "Junk" earlier this year and absolutely adored it. I was surprised to see a low rating on ... read more
Joni remains a quality singer-songwriter and has mastered the slow and steady pace that makes the over fifty minutes fly right on by.
I'll admit that I thought the first few songs were pretty mediocre. But I really got invested in the writing of "Strange Boy" and sympathizing with the guy she sings about.
"Hejira"'s production is the best so far in this album. The writing is just as striking, but that comes at zero surprise.
"Song for Sharon"'s storytelling ... read more
Ahh jazz my old friend. We meet again. Are you going to be the first that makes it out of mid territory. Or will you be just as boring as everything else I have heard. The trial starts now!
Oh! Tengo Suerte: This isn't Jazz! This is beach/vacation music! It's fine for what it is, but I don't recall ever caring about what I am listening to. NEXT!
Tokyo Reggie: I don't know what to say to you. THIS IS NOT JAZZ! This is more in the funk spectrum. I don't hear this music and think "OH this ... read more
What can I say? I'm a virgin.
I can appreciate the pleasant voice of Marvin but I just can't connect to it even in the slightest. My ears think he's stupid overated and try as I might to convince them otherwise they just start tuning out the music all together. Ok fine ears, you win with this artist. There's plenty more in the sea I can tell that this guy is just not for you.
It's an ok listen overall. Songs I enjoyed being:
Telephone Line
So fine
I keep on getting this trend of not really caring for the first two songs of an album and then really liking the third. Add this album to that list. Baby Tears Blues is good stuff.
Ode to an African Violet is a captivating almost hypnotic tune that I got really immersed into. This album like many others recently is just a couple duds followed by music that instantly has sold me. It may just be a coincidence but it's a fascinating one. Let's see if this album can keep up the quality.

100th Rating!!!
In celebration of this milestone I clicked on the ever magical random album link this great site has and we landed in this super obscure album. Let's see what the music gods have graced me with today:
Easy Answers: I pick a random album and get a song that can only be described as a bit random. Very repetitive, barely tolerable.
Life of Birds: I don't even know what to say. I am hearing things but I can't form the words to describe them. It's just so weird.

Steely Dan so far has only improved as the albums have gone on. So I am exited to see if they can continue the positive trend!
Kid Charlemagne: I like that while they keep their signature sounds so you can tell without looking that this song is from Steely Dan but they differentiate just enough to have it stand out from their previous work. I absolutely love when artists/ bands do this, it's like a natural evolution. The song itself is pretty standard Steely Dan so at this point I wasn't that ... read more
Their most consistent offering yet. I remember saying when I first listened to this album like a month ago that this band only just gets better!
The favorite list just keeps on growing:
Night by night
East St. Louis Toodle-oo
Parkers Band
Pretzel Logic
With a Gun
Charlie Freak
Monkey in your Soul
It's may not be very impactful like other favorite albums but it's just such a pleasant listen that I can't help but enjoy myself when these songs pop up on my playlist.
This one is a lot more solid than their last effort. Their harmony never fails to put a grin on my face. Very pleasant listen with my favorites being:
Razor Boy
Boston Rag
Your Gold Teeth
King of the World
It's an ok listen other than the two classics "Do it again" and "Reeling in the years" Those two will never get old.
I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Liking the party atmosphere this album provides.
The tracks that I had the most fun with are:
Ponta De Lança Africano
Meus Filos,Mey Tesouro
O Plebeu
Taj Mahal
Xica Da Silva
It has elements that can take you to alien planets if you are in the right mood to let the music take you. But I quickly got bored of these alien places. Not very interesting.
Phil Collins???? Never knew he was in Genesis until today. Must be quite the rock I have been staying under.
Squonk, A Trick of the Tail, and the closer "Los Endoscopy" were the standout tracks for me. The rest while good with the magic of Phil's voice, they just didn't keep my interest enough to really connect with them. Still it's a solid album with some good highlights.
