For the most part, Empire of Love is what you'd come to expect from a blackgaze project, along with a tad more. Righteous, transcendent riffing backed by bright, booming percussion and airy vocals. A sound not for everyone amongst the metal community, but one I'm fond of if done well. That is definitely the case in this instance, if a bit derivative at times. This is a rare moment in Hopsin's career. He's dropped the condescending and moronic persona he's been rapping with in favor of something that's far more thoughtful. I won't pretend that it's the most well-crafted story in the world, but it doesn't need to be. It's still compelling regardless, and I wouldn't doubt its authenticity for a second.

This EP is sitting on a tall hill, in the cool grass, with the sun on your face and your lover beside you under the shade of a tree overlooking the two of you. Clouds sprawled across the radiant sky, appearing in shapes that you identify with objects and beings you see in your everyday life. Pointing them out to each other, singing songs to each other.
