I did not expect this. I thought I'd settled down in a 3 bed semi-detached with all the Genesis I loved and there was nothing more. But on this deep dive I thought id give the first two albums a go and this, took some time to grow on me. And now Mrs Foxtrot has taken the kids and gone to stay at Granny Lamb's after she caught me blowing Trespass's back door's out in the garden shed.

I feel for much of this I'm not really qualified to have an opinion (even less so than all my other opinions) but sod it, Ill exercise my right.

I don't really vibe with Facelift. Some cool riffs, unexpected turns but overall it just didn't hold my attention and is way too long. Also it being a live recording doesn't do well for a comfortable production value.

Refugee's is probably the most popular song from this work and it shows us that Van Der Graaf are capable of engaging us lyrically as well as musically.

Really strange one for me here. The addition of a string section makes this quite a unique second album for what was a band who hadn't had a major breakthrough at this point.

The opening cover is memorable and exciting and the other is moody and stylized really well.

But what I really like here is Anderson's own songwriting. Songs like Then, Sweet Dreams, The Prophet and Clear Days comprise of the middle of the album that seems to be widely considered a 'lull' but I ... read more
