When I listened to this album on its own, I found it calmer and more incomprehensible than other GY!BE albums, describing it as “unlistenable.” I think the main reason for this was that it didn't have the same moments of elevation as LYSFLATH. However, when I decided to listen to the album again with intense focus and approached its atmosphere as a concept, it definitely managed to draw me in.
The band, presenting us with a post-apocalyptic world, chose to use chillingly cold ... read more
There's nothing better than listening to the songs of an already perfect album with different song structures and different instruments. Even if the album were released in cassette versions, even with this sound quality, my score would still be 100. It was an album where Godspeed You! Black Emperor (I'm referring to them this way because this band is their side project.) moved away from their classic song structure, using fewer explosions and less drumming. Released the same year as the LYSFLATH album, it was an album that felt more subdued and modern classical than post-rock. From what I understand, they continued in this direction in other albums as well, as there are clear differences in song structure. Hearing vocals from GY!BE ... read more
So what does this score mean? I'll need a long paragraph to describe the beauty of this album.
