Folkesange is an excellent exploration of Myrkur's Scandinavian roots. She is forgoing the heavier black-metal of her previous releases for a pastoral collection of gentle, yet powerful folk songs. Her voice sores over the lush melodies, and her playing is exact and forceful and hits with purpose. For anyone who says Myrkur isn't metal, a Scandinavian folk album is probably the most metal you can get. Highly recommend!

Inside the Rose was one of my favorite releases in 2019, so an assortment of various studio bits and bobs got my attention early in the year. The Cut features outtakes, remixes, and a few finalized songs, some of which could have worked well on Inside the Rose. Opener "The Mirage" is a standout, as is the six-minute "If I Were You (Love at the End of the Human Age)." "Cruising Nevada" moves along with a motorik pulse, recalling the width of driving across the barren landscapes of the silver state. Other tracks, "Dragon Slayer," sound like a mixture between shoegaze ... read more

Rushing passes by quickly and recalls both Grouper and Julianna Barwick in its vocal-ambient textures and soundscapes; however, Lucy Gooch doesn't possess the vocal power of Julianna, and her voice, while smooth, is a little too meek to leave a lasting impression.

It took a few listens for me to appreciate Empty for what it was truly. At the present moment, it's sparseness makes sense and when left to work its magic, does a great job as an ambient release. The gentle piano notes and textures create a blanketing effect while still suggesting space and isolation. The tracks are all distinguished enough to not just blend into one another. And if desired, Empty can work for more focused listening.
