not as diverse and interesting as side B but genuinely as consistent and often enjoyable as well. unironically started practicing pronouncing Richard Mille with the guide in Split Toes too (the d is silent)
highkey brainless raps, it baffles me how this got a conscious or hardcore genre tag. also tracks 6-11 could've been completely cut and the Doom feature was pointless. nonetheless, often entertaining with quality production
like a "ts hip hop fr" starter pack and unironically top 3 in his discography. Hit-boy was phenomenal.
such a cohesive, thoughtful, and quietly empowering project. you can tell kendrick's still figuring out his technicality as an artist (hooks esp were rough), but the emotion and substance have been undeniably present since day 1. this is the album i think of when i think pure conscious hip hop and its easily top 3 in his catalog for me.
