FKA twigs - MAGDALENE

I’m a big fan miss twigs, thank you

Kinda torn on this one because it has some great songs (Applause, Mary Jane Holland) but some really bad ones as well (Swine, Fashion, Dope)

probably my fave indie rock album of 2021 so far

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak
88

Kanye channeled his heartbreak over the loss of his beloved mother Donda and his breakup with his fiancé into a genre shifting masterpiece. This is is honestly an underrated album in my opinions as it has some of my favorite Kanye songs. Here, we see Kanye using heavy auto tune and distorting his voice, basically creating the style that many rappers use today. This album holds some of his most heartbreaking songs (hence the title) where he really put all his emotions out in the world for ... read more

Kanye West - Graduation

The simple word I’d use to describe this album is fun. It isn’t as strong as his previous projects, but damn is it fun to listen to. It uses more electronic and pop sounds creating several great dance and club beats. Listening to College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation one after the other really gives you the opportunity to see the artistic growth throughout, with the latter showing the more grandeur production that Kanye would use on future projects. You gotta pity 50 ... read more

Kanye West - Late Registration

Kanye’s second album continues to showcase his talent as a producer, using original beats and samples, while still making something that didn’t just sound like an extended version of College Dropout. He draws from all different genres to create his own type of hybrid hip hop. While there are a couple tracks that lead the album to drag a bit, it’s still very well done.

Favorite Tracks: Touch the Sky, Gold Digger, Diamonds From Sierra Leone, Hey Mama

Kanye West - The College Dropout

My feed for the past few days has been filled with reviews of people revisiting Kanye’s discography because of the supposed release of his next album Donda. Whether or not that’s going to happen, it’s about time I re-listen and write (short) reviews for one of my favorite artists.

College Dropout is a monster of a debut. With 21 tracks and a seventy-six minute run time, there’s a lot to listen too. And believe me, the time spent listening to this album is time well ... read more

Why was she rapping in the last track

Pop Smoke - Faith

There’s a fine line between a good posthumous album and a messy cash grab made from every scrap and sample possible

Billie Eilish - NDA

He’s better than mgk that’s for sure

The Marías - CINEMA
90

Something about this album just captivated me to the point where I wasn’t ready for it to end. The smooth production and dreamy vocals were a big standout for me, as well as the instrumental interludes throughout. The spoken word outro really solidified my rating for this album because I thought it was well written and a great way to wrap up the album. Overall a really strong debut album from an artist who I can’t wait to see more of.

I love Doja’s music and her unique sound but this project turned out to be generic and boring. Apart from the few bangers throughout, many of the songs were bland and too similar sounding, which is the opposite I had hoped from someone who has shown lots of versatility in the past. Overall really disappointed because I was excited for this.

Favorite Tracks: Payday, Been Like This, Ain’t Shit, Kiss Me More
Least Favorite: Naked, Options, Imagine

Travis Scott - Rodeo

I’ve tried listening to this 4 separate times previously but I could just never get into it. Since I’ve been listening to a lot of rap lately, I decided to give it another try because what kind of rap listener am I if I can’t appreciate one of the most influential trap albums of the decade?!

So anyways I gave it a listen and I CANNOT BELIEVE IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO APPRECIATE THIS. The opening track was just amazing and the amazing-ness continued throughout the album with the ... read more

Can you tell I’m going through a 90’s rock phase?

Tyler, The Creator - Wolf
75

This is miles better than Goblin, but still lacking in some areas. The album is weighed down by a couple of fillers and the production could have used more variety. The lyrics however are the projects strong suit, and hearing what Tyler had to say kept me hooked the whole time.

Favorite Tracks: Colossus, Rusty, Pigs

Taylor Swift - reputation

I love Taylor but this project lacked the depth and emotion of her other work. Cringe lyrics, messy production and overall bland songs. Don’t Blame Me is a banger though which is why I was generous with the score

Tyler, The Creator - Goblin

The only Tyler the Creator album I’ve listened to before this is Flower Boy, but I want to get into more of his discography. I decided to listen to this one first, and it was definitely....an experience. There are a few songs on here that are really good, but there are way to many fillers that leaves you thinking it could have been a good twenty minutes shorter. Tyler’s lyrics range from amusing to just downright bad, and the loud/messy production could’ve worked for one or ... read more

serpentwithfeet - DEACON
75

DEACON is an alternative R&B/pop project that has a wonderfully calm aspect to it with very chill vocals and rich production. With that said, I wish it had more variety, as the album dragged at some parts. None of the songs were inherently bad, but some of them were a bit forgettable.

Favorite Tracks: Hyacinth, Heart Storm, Old & Fine
Least Favorite Track: Same Shoe Size
