Congratulations, Coldplay, on the release of your second shoegaze song.
Origin of Symmetry but it mostly sounds worse. It's cool to hear the alternate takes on songs like Citizen Erased or Micro Cuts, and it's also cool to hear Matt screaming in Hyper Music, but this is not a great way to listen to Origin of Symmetry. At least they're not treating it as a "replacement" for the original.
Corny as hell. Occasionally very good, mostly fine. It's the quintessential Muse album in every good and bad way. Matt Bellamy is very good at writing songs that feel politically charged on the surface with absolutely nothing to say beneath that surface, much like the 1984 film adaptation of the George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four that he probably watched before/while writing the lyrics to this album.
A good mix of old and new synth pop. Remove Pulse from the mix and it’s great. Unfortunately they did not do that.
Fantastic early synth pop, would easily be as good as Architecture and Morality if it sounded anything like the single version of Messages. You get the sense that they didn’t really know what they were doing, which is kind of charming at least.
Flawless early synth pop album. Brutalist architecture vibes.
OMD are a criminally underrated band, this album is probably their best work overall (though not even my personal favourite, which says a lot about the quality of their discography).
A great synthwave album! The 80s slasher b movie vibe is not just an entertaining premise, it makes for a very cohesive listening experience. 32 minutes is quite short, but it does everything it needs to do in that runtime.
Truly psychedelic experience, and one that very much deserves its repuation (interpret that whichever way you want).
An impressive album for a band nearing 30 years into its career, perhaps a little long for its own good. The electronic rock sound the band landed on here sounds great though and provides just enough variety over the span of an hour (although I will say some of the B sides exclusive to the deluxe version deserved to be on the album more than, say, Spacewalker)
Ghoulishly theatrical heavy metal. Musically this album fucks, in multiple ways. Unfortunately, the CD and Streaming versions of this album were absolutely fucked up in the mastering stage rendering some moments absolutely disgusting to listen to, but not in a way that stops me from enjoying the music.
A confused mess, but an enjoyable confused mess nonetheless. It feels like two completely different albums merged into one because it is.
EDIT (RELISTEN 28/01/26): 70 -> 80. This is a very good album in spite of its confused production. I enjoy every song here. I would rate it higher if I could understand what the hell is going on with the concept part of this supposed concept album
outstanding creative unique and FUN EP. Production scratches my brain. Capybara than tonight
There is potential, but aside from the singles this is overall a rather forgettable album.
Excellent balance between the straightforward heavy metal sound of their debut and the cluttered at times experimentation of their second. I do feel the songwriting is a little weaker in the latter half, and I don’t find this album as cohesive as Prequelle, but it is a fantastic album nonetheless.
Endearingly cheesy, all around fun pop rock album. It’s let down a little by some weaker songs in the second half but Friday Night slaps so I can’t complain.
