Coldplay - Everyday Life

A surprisingly fresh record from a band many, including myself, had written off two albums ago. They traded in the nauseatingly maximalist aesthetic of their previous record for a much more stripped down and experimental outing this time. There are moments where the band seems completely unrecognizable if it weren't for Chris Martin's signature vocals to remind us. Coldplay - A Head Full of Dreams
40

This record is the sonic equivalent of the smell tree car fresheners give off. You can't tell what the smell is exactly but you know you don't like it and that it's giving you a slight headache. Every track on here is so poppy yet nondescript; two words which I thought were oxymoronic until now.

Unlike much of what comes after this album in their discography, I actually find Mylo Xyloto to be a serviceable pop album. At times it's even great. The opener 'Hurts Like Heaven' chugs along so jubilantly it feels like a duty to tap your foot along to it. This tone can be felt throughout the whole album and peaks with 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' which practically begs you to sing along at the top of ... read more
