Boldy James & Sterling Toles - Manger on McNichols

[- Top 50 highest rated jazz rap albums -]
Review: [16/50]
Ranking according to aoty: [#13]

This was cool but kinda boring as well. Whenever my attention was captured it was dope bars over super cool instrumentation, but then in the same song my mind was somewhere else. Maybe that’s on me though

C418 - Minecraft - Volume Alpha
88

Probably more often than I would like to admit I reminisce to what I imagine is a pretty collective memory among my generation; the magical afternoons sitting behind my computer playing Minecraft. The hours spent building houses, exploring worlds and battling, I find hardly wasted. Listening to the soundtrack to the game that has been such a huge part of my life brings it all back. Every note sentimental and melancholy in its own right. A true masterpiece.

While nostalgia obviously serves a ... read more

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
70

I mean it’s… okay?? Like cool rap rock but the songs kinda sound the same. I much prefer bulldawg to this
Maybe I undervalue lyrical content🤷‍♀️

Sampha - Lahai
81

Genuinely top 5 voice of all time. Kinda wish he played more with vocal layering but happy with what we got nonetheless
Favorite track: suspended

Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future (The Extended Edition)
80

dope as fuck, more artists should make live versions of their albums
I still prefer Disc 1 tho

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
68

This is overrated… it’s okay but weird recording techniques and forgettable moments made it pass slowly
Favorite track: Cloudbusting
First listen: 6 June 2026

King Krule - 6 Feet Beneath the Moon
73

i apologize for ever touching a guitar

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
85

energetic, addicting and compassionate
one hell of a debut album
Favorite track: I Am the Resurrection, I wanna be Adored
First listen: 23 may 2026

Current Joys - Wild Heart
78

this gave me depression and then cured it

The Marías - Submarine
76

idk how to enunciate this better than just a pleasant listen
minimal production that still stimulates combined with soft singing
dark synths and washed out vocals simulate the same feeling as hit me hard and soft does
was perfect for studying biology :)
Favorite track: Blur
First listen: 20 may 2026

Kenny Mason - BULLDAWG
82

hell yeah bro❤️‍🩹
good stuff, successfully veering into a relatively under explored genre
Favorite track: BOUNCE WIT ME, COME TRUE
First listen: 18 may 2026

Lil Ugly Mane - VOLCANIC BIRD ENEMY AND THE VOICED CONCERN
68

Idk what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. Will review more lil ugly mane

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
55

i don't like boastful kendrick

Basic Channel - Quadrant Dub
74

minimalist techno which works great for studying. not much to say about it, which i guess is the point.

CK The Spitta - Strictly 4 The Underground
79

Ck the spitta is a terribly underrated rapper from sweden, who's newest album contains a plethora of pop-culture refrences with nice flows over smooth beats. Give it a listen.
Favorite track: Till the engine breaks, Fruits of my labor
First listen: 14 may 2026

Alexi Murdoch - Four Songs
84

"my salvation lies in your love"

Orange sky is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs of all time

The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
75

Warm and enjoyeable, and rarely boring. I love the fuzzy guitars and my whole family can't get enough of New Slang

Favorite track: New Slang
First listen: 9 may 2026

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York
66

This didn't resonate. Which makes a ton of sense. I have never listened to any nirvana studio album in full (sorry). I'm thinking the idea behind this performance is to take these amazingly distorted grungy-rock songs and play it on acoustic instruments, with a fascinating contrast for any nirvana fan (and thus not me).

Action Bronson - PLANET FROG
80

I wasn’t familiar with your game Mr. Bronson
Super cozy and syrupy. Great features and wordplay

Favorite track: CONDOR
First listen: 8 may 2026

The KLF - Chill Out

Cool stuff. Incorporates various sounds and I like to think dude just took his microphone everywhere he went for a day.
