Why is Statues the lowest scored track on here? That's the one that makes me take notice everytime I listen.
On first listen, pretty good. Sometimes it reminds me of Beck for some reason.
I like it when the flute is going crazy and the double bass and/or cello is doing stuff. But then a track where the piano is the main feature will happen and it lasts 15 minutes and I have to fall asleep.
Doesn't quite have the character of previous albums, apart from Dancer, and maybe Gift Horse, but it's still very good. There's a decent amount of electro type stuff in there which I appreciate. It's a bit like listening to Kid A for the first time, 'oh, they gone electro now'.
If you wanted a pensive IDLES album, here you go.
Better than the Beth Gibbons one.
Much better than the Dawn Upshaw one.
Great, but maybe a bit too silly for me to score any higher. I was tempted to score it 90-100, because it's very catchy and there's not a boring moment through the whole thing... but also perhaps it lacks depth beyond the entertaining theatricality.
I couldn't give it 100 points, because Maxwell's Silver Hammer is rubbish. And Octopus's garden is awful. On the other hand, Come Together, Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Here Comes the Sun and Because are all excellent. Well done The Beatles!
I don't like the progy bits very much. Or maybe I do... I need to listen to it again as I'm a bit confused about it.
Pretty good. Plenty of double bass and Leonard Cohen-esque lyrics. No mentions of ghosts or UFOs though, which is a massive disappointment from this little being.
This sounds identical to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Someone needs to take someone else to court. Maybe it's the folk musicians of Turkey who need to take them all to court. But it's more than that actually, even the electro bits here sound the same as the ones on a King Gizzard album. This and Nonagon Infinity = they're the same picture meme. Good though, I give it a good score.
Second half much better than the first half. Burn Alive, Sinner, My Lady of Mercy, Nothing Matters and Mirror are all very good. Some of those other tracks on the first half are a bit boring though. Anyway, it all sounded a bit Bat for Lashes to me. And a bit Sparks too. With a dash of Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Had to rescore from 65 all the way to 90, because even though it's corny and sounds like it's from 1974, it was never boring and always great.
It's raining and some lady is in your flat going on about something in a whispy voice, and there's a cool metalcore band practicing in the flat upstairs, and you're thinking 'I don't know what this lady's going on about, but that band upstairs sound pretty decent, can I go up there ?'
Fine I suppose... well, the first 5 tracks are fine. After that it gets bad. Sounds like Boy Band Metal to me, is that one of million genres of metal that exist? Perhaps I've listened to too much Death Metal growling and Black Metal shrieking lately that now a man singing understandable lyrics in tune is boring. And perhaps this is why Vore is the best track on here. DYWTYLM is awful, I had to deduct 20 points just for this horrific nonsense.
