keshi - skeletons
64

the weakest of the 3 but not offensive by any means. the tracks here all have memorable qualities

Favourite Tracks: atlas, skeletons, xoxosos

keshi - always
72

surprisingly consistent. probably the most interesting sonically of the trilogy

Favourite Tracks: always, more, drunk, B.Y.S.

keshi - bandaids
69

alright brings this down a bit. bandaids is a song i will forever cherish

Favourite Tracks: less of you, right here, bandaids

Drake - Thank Me Later
61

oh you fancy huh?
score is carried by its highlights. couldn't really care much for the rest of the tracklist but i couldn't give a record that has over and fancy on it less than a 60

Favourite Tracks: Fireworks, Over, Up All Night, Fancy, Miss Me, Find Your Love, Thank Me Now

HXG - Snotty World (Deluxe)
70

much better than the original ep, enjoyed this more than i thought i would

Favourite Tracks: Holler!, 5unna, Big O Shit, Rockstar, Step Daddy

HXG - SNOTTY WORLD

deluxe was much better. snotty wax is hard though

Favourite Tracks: Snotty Wax!, The LifeStyle!

Kanye West - JESUS IS KING
56

better than mbdtf ..
on a serious note the highlights on this album are fine but this is so lacking. kanye's past few records have lacked anything near as compelling as his older material, and it's ultimately a demise that a lot of mainstream artists are experiencing. really hoping of something with more substance in the future.

Favourite Tracks: Selah, Follow God, On God, God Is, Use This Gospel

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
83

jesus is king clears

Favourite Tracks: Dark Fantasy, POWER, All Of The Lights, Monster, Devil In A New Dress, Runaway, Hell Of A Life, Lost In The World, Who Will Survive In America

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

quite possibly the worst album of the last decade

Favourite Tracks: Wesley's Theory, King Kunta, Institutionalized, These Walls, u, Alright, Hood Politics, How Much a Dollar Cost, Complexion (A Zulu Love), The Blacker The Berry, i, Mortal Man

JPEGMAFIA - Veteran

i wasn't aware of this album when it was initially making its rounds so i never got to experience just how boundary pushing this was in the 2018 music scene, but even listening from 2023 makes this sound so ahead of our current time. it all comes together as this product of energy and hostility that's intriguing and miraculously has so much replay value. the middle portion of the album took a bit post-first listen to adjust to but it's such an alluring experience.

JPEGMAFIA - All My Heroes Are Cornballs

grew on me. wasn't as compelled overall compared to his more contemporary efforts and veteran upon first listen but i eventually realised how amazing this record is. on some days this is better than veteran; it feels more subtle and reserved yet still has that volatile and aggressive delivery peggy's known for. it's innovative in continuing to establish that mean and aggressive production and lyrical style while enlacing these harsh elements with beautiful and ethereal qualities and vocal ... read more

Travis Scott - UTOPIA

this was a surprise for a lot of people. regardless of whether you liked it or not, it's still admirable how he deliberately went out of his way to change his sound and incorporate more experimental inflexions and influences into the sonic aspect of his music. the dark and "utopia"-esque undertones on this album are great, and there are some really outstanding tracks on here. only a handful of duds.

Ameer Vann & Merlyn Wood - Slime In the Ice Machine

disappointed. the beginning is pretty fun, but hit effectively signals the album's decline into boringly unmemorable territory. song 2 is cool though.

hit might be one of my least favourite rap songs of the year

Favourite Tracks: Swisher, Smog Check, Song 2

Kankan - ##RR

pretty uninteresting but enjoyable at some parts. the yeat collabs were cool and breakin tha bank is crazy

Favourite Tracks: Arcteryx, Breakin Tha Bank, Not Da Same (feat. Yeat), Dissin, Russian Shit, Fuk Tha Clout (feat. Yeat)

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES: DLC PACK

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES

the most off the wall, relentlessly uncompromising garbage i've ever heard. i love it.

some of peggy's best production and funniest lines on here. danny sounds so unfiltered on this album and it's fucking amazing
i physically can't bring myself to make a serious review because i know peggy and danny didn't go into this wanting to make the most layered and thought-provoking shit so i'll summarise my thoughts into 3 words: this goes hard.

special album to me. apollo is a song i will forever hold a special place in my heart for

Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy

very pretty album. not as captivating as his two most recent records, but still a very blissful listen with very introspective and thorough lyricism. tracks like boredom, i ain't got time and 911 / mr lonely have great replayability.

surprisingly, even after all the internet notoriety and prevalence see you again has had it hasn't grown off me like a lot of other tracks that suffer the same process have. that kali uchis hook is beautiful

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR

i'm sure what needs to be said about this album has already been said a good thousand times. memorable hooks, incredible progression, vivid storytelling and descriptions, a fantastic blend of soul, r&b and hard-hitting rap, immensely depressing and gay. what more could you ask for?

also the fact that i never noticed uzi was on the chorus of igor's theme until like last month is crazy to me

Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST

in a weird way this album broadened my horizons for rap music. in my alt rock era i couldn't have really cared less for rap music, but once i was made to listen to this when it initially released my music taste subconsciously changed from then on, and i'm eternally grateful for that. it isn't anything particularly groundbreaking but i hold it close to my heart. shit goes crazy too; tyler's versatility in his delivery, the diversity of the production and some of the most insane features from ... read more

"@ThePecanTree i also think that in the context of the album fitter happier is a great inclusion that employs and summarises the album's themes and ideas very well, just from a personal enjoyment perspective i enjoy it a little bit less. not necessarily a skip, just one i wouldn't immediately think to return to frequently"
