I know this isn’t a genuine live album but a mixture of shows and pieced together edited songs from Queen’s Concerts in Europe 1979. The album is bursting with energy and Mercury in fine form with songs from Queens best era , the 1970s. If this was a genuine full show then I would rate it 96. Best Songs are We Will Rock You (fast version) , Let Me Entertain You , Now I’m Here , Spread Your Wings , Love Of My Life , Dreamers Ball and Tie Your Mother Down.
This was the first Journey album I listened to and loved it from the first line of the first song. Stunning vocals from Steve Perry , Great songwriting and brilliant musicianship. I would ignore the rolling stone review as the reviewers seem to be jealous of great bands like Queen and Journey. This album has some great power ballads and every song is very decent. Best tracks are Don’t Stop Believin’ , Who’s Crying Now , Stone in Love , Mother Father and Still They Ride
Kiss were one of my favourite bands mid to late 80s but looking back this album wasn’t that good despite me liking a few of the tracks. The songwriting continues the trend of the solo albums by the fact that Stanley is better at it than Simmons and likewise at singing. Some really weak tracks by Gene. Best tracks are Thrills in the Night , Heaven’s on Fire , I’ve had Enough and Under the Gun.
A lot of the reviews on this site seem to be - listen just once and rush to get another review on their profile. This album is a great return to form by Journey with Steve Perry still producing brilliant vocals even 11 years on from the last album. Maybe overloaded with ballads but all are top level. The Piano work by Jonathan Cain on Still She Cries is possibly the best I have heard on any Rock song. Best Songs are Still She Cries , When I Think of You , Trial By Fire , It’s Just the ... read more
Despite Jools Holland leaving the band for the second time Squeeze still manage to deliver another decent album. This is the first Squeeze album where Glenn Tilbrook is lead vocalist on every song which is not a bad thing. Mostly good songs , I personally prefer the latter half of the album. My only negative thing to say about the album is track 3 Letting Go could have been a minute shorter with an over repetitive ending to the song. Best Tracks are Sunday Street , Gone to the Dogs , Walk a ... read more
Another excellent album from Queen with no real weak tracks. Maybe not as good as the earlier albums but still better than most bands of that year. Great vocals as usual from Freddie , Roger and Brian also on form with nice vocals too and John proving he writes really some decent stuff. Best tracks are Don’t Stop Me Now , Dreamers Ball , Jealousy , Let Me Entertain You and If You Can’t Beat Them.
Really got into Squeeze in the late 80s and this is another one of their albums with a load of clever songwriting and catchy tunes.
From the brilliant but annoying Hourglass right throughout the album , Squeeze nearly always make sure the songs are worthy of being on an album unlike other bands at this time who struggled to get any good songs besides a couple of chart singles. Best tracks are Cigarette of a Single Man , Tough Love , Trust Me To Open My Mouth , The Waiting Game and Footprints.
I bought this album after hearing In Bloom on Radio 1 when it was in the charts not realising how big Nirvana were going to be eventually. I liked most of the songs on the album and still listen to it over 30 years later. Some clever song writing and original sounding songs unlike the copy and paste format of other heavier rock bands around at the time. Best tracks are Drain You , In Bloom , Lithium , Lounge Act and Smells Like Teen Sprit.
I wasn’t really fussed on Wham at the time of their existence but didn’t mind some of the songs. Being a record collector of limited editions in the late 80s I bought The Final on double gold vinyl and decided to actually play it rather than leave it unplayed. From that point I realised that Wham wrote some great catchy songs and started listening to this regularly at that time. So I would say this is a very good collection and one of the best greatest hits album by any pop band. ... read more
I heard Blue Hotel on Radio One in the 90s and really loved this song which led me to eventually buying this album. I was not disappointed as there are a load of great tracks on this compilation. Standout tracks are Blue Hotel , Wicked Game , Lie to Me , Nothing’s Changed , Funeral in the Rain and Heart Shaped World.
Nothing much to say here other than this one of the best collection of hits that I have ever heard from a rock band. Brilliant songwriting delivered by some of the best rock musicians ever. Add Gillan and Coverdale on vocals and nothing could be better. An absolute must listen to album. Standout tracks are Black Knight , Smoke on the Water , Child in Time , Highway Star , Burn and Woman From Tokyo.
Nice early album from Kiss showing that Paul Stanley is the best songwriter in the band. This is my favourite Kiss album cover. Best songs are C’mon and Love Me , Room Service , Rock Bottom and Rock and Roll All Nite
What turned out to be their last studio album is somehow underrated. Sounds like a move towards the 80’s style but maintains the uniqueness that is LZ. Best tracks are Fool in the Rain , All My Love , Hot Dog and In the Evening.
Another excellent 70s album from Queen with the chart single Killer Queen really making people take notice for the first time. Despite really liking the album I still prefer Queen II , A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races but I think it is better than News of the World. Standout Tracks are Killer Queen , Now I’m Here , In the Lap of the Gods Revisited , Tenement Funster and Flick of the Wrist
Another great 70s album by Queen but possibly their weakest of the decade. Quite different than the last two albums but Queen still putting out great songs. Standout tracks are We Are the Champions , It’s Late , Spread Your Wings and Who Needs You.
One of the best albums of the 90s , great songs , clever lyrics and well produced. The singles released from it are more radio friendly than the previous album so they probably gained a lot more fans due to that. Personally I think this is the best album by a Welsh band. Standout tracks are Design for Life , Enola / Alone , Australia and Small Black Flowers.
The first album by Black Sabbath featuring Ronnie James Dio and what a great album it is. Stunning songs , outstanding vocals and about as heavy sounding as metal needs to be. This is the best album in this genre by a long way. Standout tracks are Die Young , Heaven and Hell , Children of the Sea and Neon Nights.
Not sure why this album is rated so low , it is just Queen taking their music in another direction. I think this album is better than Freddie’s solo album and much better than The Miracle but not anywhere near the outstanding 70s albums. A lot of the tracks worked well during their 1982 live shows. Best songs are Las Palabras De Amor , Staying Power , Under Pressure and Back Chat.
Another very good album by Squeeze highlighting the brilliant song writing of Difford and Tilbrook. A few weak tracks but mostly catchy , witty songs. Standout tracks are Pulling Mussels , Another Nail for my Heart , Vicky Verky , I Think I’m Go Go and There at the Top. Better than most albums in this genre.
The first time I listened to this album was in 1989 after remembering that I liked Cool for Cats and Up the Junction from the late 70s. I never knew that listening to this album , Squeeze would eventually end up being my favourite bad. Seen them 30 times since and ironically the reason I don’t watch them live these days is that 90% of the setlist they play are these songs. Too much of a good thing. Album though is pop perfection. Standout tracks are Up the Junction , Take Me I’m ... read more
