I think what I appreciate most about this album is just the openness of all of these anxieties, probably because at this time in my life I can relate to it a lot. I've been a fan of Maddie Jay's music since about 2018 and it's really rewarding to hear her songwriting evolve since then. She's always been great, but I think that this album showcases some of her best work.
Her sound is also incredibly unique and I have a hard time drawing similarities to other artists. The ... read more
I've listened to this album 5 times now and haven't gotten tired of it. Rather than this album having standout songs, this album has standout moments and they're all over the place. Every song has one or more detail that I am just absolutely in love with. Everything sounds exactly how it should and everything is in its place. And to top it off, these songs have been stuck on loop in my head when I'm not listening to the album. I love this album.

Homework is over bloated. Despite the first couple of songs containing some great grooves and interesting sampling, everything that came after felt like a chore... Or maybe even homework. Almost all of these songs would benefit from living inside a DJ set rather than as standalone songs on an album. I'm aware that this is basically what Alive 2007 is, but this is not Alive 2007 and for that reason, it is insufferable.
As a fan of Declan's previous 2 albums, this was a huge disappointment. While my biggest complaint with Declan's previous two albums would have come to his lyrics, I actually found his lyrics to be much better on this album. The only problem is that the music that accompanied it was unbearable. Even the more enjoyable songs, like Sympathy, felt one note. This album mainly felt like Declan responding to some of the criticisms of his previous albums being "nothing new" by trying to ... read more
Revisiting this album after 4 years is kind of wild. Since my first listen, this album has only gained higher appreciation in my head despite only listening once. Genevieve was a song that I have listened to a lot over the years and I would check out a couple other ones here and there. Simply put, I forgot about the majority of the issues with this album. So revisiting it now was kind of surprising when realizing how many small issues there were with it. I acquired a headache a little over ... read more
The album had a couple of standout tracks, but most of the time I was underwhelmed. The album is very clearly just a bunch of doodles, demos, and songs that she couldn't bother finishing. There are a lot of great ideas here though and I wish they would have been fleshed out a bit more before putting them on an album. Or "mixtape".

Favorites: Reason, Passion, Break it off
This was a pretty fun album. While I find it harder to connect with music that is in a language I don't entirely understand, I still thought that all of the sounds and elements in this album were able to form a very cohesive and enjoyable experience. The element of this album that I think deserves the most praise is it's insane ability to sound like it could have been released yesterday. It was released in 2014 and yet it feels like it's blending elements of the early 2010s dancepop that ... read more
The first 40 minutes of this album were insane. So many bangers, but by track 12 or whatever I was getting a little exhausted. I think the album would benefit from being trimmed down a bit, but seeing as it's for her late father it's understandable that she made it as long as she felt it needed to be so I give her a pass.
Favorite songs: Terrible Thought and Haunted
This is a pretty enjoyable album. The only real complaint that I have is that nothing really stuck out to me. I would find it hard to recall one melody or one section from the album. But I could see myself listening to the album again at some point. Don't really have any 'favorite songs' though because it all kind of blended together. It was very cohesive, BUT maybe a little TOO cohesive.
I'll update this review with some more in-depth thoughts after I let it sit for a bit, but this is a pretty solid album. While it is certainly more polished and focused than their debut, I don't think this album has as many catchy and hooky songs as the debut. Don't get it wrong, there are still plenty of great songs here. I was confused to see some placements of songs released prior to the album making it in the tracklist like IRL over an undeniable banger like Amateurs, but IRL is still a ... read more
While there are a couple of songs here that some might consider 'filler', there's still not a dull moment on McCartney. In particular 5 tracks that I consider perfect carry this album for me. Those songs would be 'Every Night', 'Junk', 'Man We Was Lonely', 'Teddy Boy', and of course, 'Maybe I'm Amazed'. All 5 of these songs are so infectious. I remember all of them equally being stuck in my head for weeks after I first heard them. Aside from those 5, I enjoyed 'The Lovely Linda' and Paul's ... read more
This album is almost comically bad. The only redeeming qualities this album has is that it's obvious that Ringo was having a good time making this album. It's just too bad that he made something as awful as this in the process. The only song that is almost worth a second listen is Tango All Night, and even then you would have to do some pretty good convincing to have me listen to it again.
Even though I am not the greatest fan of Spector's work on this album, the songwriting still shines through, and Let It Be has an undeniable crop of amazing tracks. Listening to this album only makes me more excited to eventually listen to the Naked version that removes most of Spector's embellishments. Regardless of that, there are so many great songs on here that it's a shame that some people let Spector's production turn them away from the album. My only real complaint is the album seemed to ... read more
Part of what makes Abbey Road so spectacular to me is that this was the last album that The Beatles recorded together, and it's their best. I can't imagine what other masterpieces would have come from them if they had stuck together, or at the very least gotten together one last time. Even though there are songs that I like more than others, they're all fantastic in their own ways. And the medley at the end of the album. I don't really have any words to describe how amazing it is to me. Nothing ... read more
I don't think anyone would place Yellow Submarine anywhere but last place on a Beatles album ranking. And it deserves it. The only new song I really like on this album is 'Hey Bulldog', but it doesn't make up for the duds that are on the rest of the album.
Favorite songs: 'Hey Bulldog', 'It's All Too Much'
The album starts off really strong, but towards the end, it really starts to drag. 'Leather Together' sounds like a parody of 'Helter Skelter', even including a McCartney-like scream. And 'Ashamed' could have been 3 minutes shorter than it was. That being said, there are still some really great songs on here. 'The One' is the standout track for me. I had it on repeat for weeks after I first listened to the album. The Lemon Twigs don't always knock it out of the park, but when they do, it's the ... read more
There's really too much on this album for me to make a comprehensive review talking about all of the aspects of my favorite and least favorite songs on here, so I'll keep it short. I didn't expect it after my first listen, but this album has so many amazing songs on it. The ones that I brushed over on the first listen wound up stuck in my head days later, and soon I had the song that I thought I hated stuck on repeat for the rest of the day. Side 1 has so many amazing songs that if it were ... read more
Magical Mystery Tour is essentially Sgt. Pepper's little brother. The album that was never meant to be. This album is worth listening to just for 'Strawberry Fields Forever' alone. It's probably on every list of the top ten Beatles songs, and it deserves to be on every list. My least favorite songs on the album are 'Flying' and 'Blue Jay Way'. There's not really much to these songs that make them very memorable to me. I couldn't hum the melody from either of these songs, but maybe I'll cut some ... read more
Following Revolver, The Beatles once again try something new with Sgt. Pepper's. But before I can talk about the music on this album, I just have to say that regardless of what anyone thinks about the music, there's no doubt that Sgt. Pepper's is one of the greatest/most iconic album covers of all time. I could stare at the album cover for an hour and not get tired of looking at it. The same can be said for the music on the album too. Minus the staring part. The first 6 songs on this album are ... read more
