The Beatles - Revolver
84

Revolver is incredible just based on the fact alone that this was the album released a year after Rubber Soul. And even Help! was released the previous year. This album alone cemented The Beatles' impact on music as a whole being massive. Just a read through of the Wikipedia entry for Revolver will tell you all about the recording firsts and achievements that happened on this album. I don't think anything compares in terms of firsts in music. Besides the recording achievements, this album has ... read more

The Beatles - Rubber Soul

Rubber Soul. My favorite album they released in their first half of albums. This is everything that their previous albums had been building up to. They had honed their craft and mastered it on Rubber Soul. It's also the first hint towards experimentation with "Norwegian Wood" featuring George on the sitar. Almost every song on this album is perfect. The only song on Rubber Soul that I couldn't hum the melody of off the top of my head is "Wait". Every other song, even if some ... read more

The Beatles - Help!

Lots of iconic songs off of Help! which made the movie a bit more bearable to watch. It's also the last album to contain any cover songs (If you don't count Let It Be). The obvious highlight of the album is "Yesterday", with it being the first time only one Beatle is featured on a song. John's "Help!" is also a step up in his songwriting as well, with him talking about the struggles of being thrust into the spotlight and doubting himself.

The Beatles - Beatles for Sale

"It sounds like another band trying to sound like The Beatles. " - my dad's thoughts on Beatles For Sale

I know that this is a lot of people's least favorite of the early Beatles albums, but this one has so many great songs on it. Regardless of the great songwriting on this one, I think the boys were worn out from touring, making a movie, and then making their 4th album. When I listen to this album, my main take away is that they sound tired. Maybe it's mostly the album cover's ... read more

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

The first track, which shares its name with the album, contains one of the greatest opening chords to any song I've ever heard. When you start off an album with a song like A Hard Day's Night, it's going to be a good album. While it's not my favorite from their early albums, this is still a landmark album. This was the first time John and Paul got to really shine with their songwriting as this is the first Beatles album to contain no cover songs. When I think about this album, the first thing ... read more

The Beatles - With The Beatles
72

Unfortunately, this second album from The Beatles isn't the same powerhouse that their debut was. While it's my least favorite of their early albums, it still has a couple of great songs on it. And the worst from this album is still great music. Not much else to say about this album really.

Favorite songs: It Won't Be Long, Money (That's What I Want)

The Beatles - Please Please Me
77

The Beatles' debut album is severely overlooked in my opinion. Although it's only a fraction of what was to come from them, it's still a great showing for their first album. While not every track on here is a masterpiece, it's already evident that John and Paul are incredible songwriters. And unfortunately for George, it'll be a bit before his songwriting gets a chance to shine (and improve).

Favorite songs: Do You Want To Know A Secret, I Saw Her Standing There, Misery

musical genius and she's only 5. unbelievable

HAIM - Women in Music Pt. III
83

HAIM's third album is their best yet. Rostam produced this album and his influence can clearly be heard, especially on the tracks Up From A Dream and I Know Alone. Rostam not only helped redefine HAIM's style from their previous two albums, but he also helped elevate it to this new level. And I think he did a fantastic job.

The songwriting on the album is also superb and I want to highlight one specific song for that. My favorite song off of the album is one of the "Bonus Tracks", ... read more

COIN - Dreamland
80

COIN's third album is a solid showcase of great production and songwriting. The album includes some of my favorite songs from the band, and I think that the album greatly improves on their previous albums resulting in my favorite album from the band thus far. While there are some great songs on here, the album was slightly marred for me by one of the slowest single rollouts I've seen for an album. The first single for the album, Simple Romance, being released well over a year before the album ... read more

Alexandra Savior - The Archer

The Archer is a nice and short album that is really enjoyable from start to finish. I'm reminded most of Lana Del Rey on tracks like Can't Help Myself and Crying All The Time, which is a compliment. None of the songs overstay their welcome, and none of the songs sound like they were wasted potential.

Favorite songs: Crying All The Time, Can't Help Myself

Caroline Polachek - Pang
79

Caroline does a great job taking conventional pop song structures and adding her own unique spin on it without it feeling too out there. There's still some familiarity and that's what makes the album an unexpected and delightful listen.

Favorite songs: So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings, Pang, Hit Me Where It Hurts

Tame Impala - The Slow Rush
85

The Slow Rush has easily been my most anticipated album for over a year prior to its release. I was extremely excited going into this album and my expectations were pretty high. After my first listen, I wasn't as pleased with the album as I had hoped I would have been. However, on my third listen I can safely say that this album is good, even though it didn't completely live up to my hype. I assume that Kevin was under a lot of pressure after the success of Currents, and I would probably be ... read more

The National - I Am Easy to Find

The only thing I took away from this was that I listened to music for 1 hour and 3 minutes.

Angel Olsen - All Mirrors
90

'All Mirrors' is a consistently beautiful album that does what it set out to do very well. The final song on the album, 'Chance', might be the perfect final song for this album. I don't think there could have been a better way to end it off. I'm a sucker for beautiful string arrangements, and 'Chance' has that and more. Despite how much I am praising 'Chance' right now, it isn't even my favorite off of the album. That favorite song spot goes to 'Spring' with its infectious melody and just ... read more

Geowulf - My Resignation

Geowulf provide an album full of catchy songs with vocals that are dream-like. I've been in love with Geowulf ever since I first heard Saltwater in 2017 and I can't wait to hear more from them.

Favorite songs: He's 31, I Want You Tonight, Lonely, Round and Round, Celebrate

Farrah Abraham - My Teenage Dream Ended

This album provided one of the most unpleasant listening experiences of my life. It is not worth it at all to listen to this album from front to back. Go ahead and pick a song at random to have a quick laugh at the complete mess that this album is, but don't waste your time listening to the whole thing like I did.

Toro y Moi - Outer Peace
75

My previous review for this album wasn't as favorable towards it as I'm about to be in this one. Surprisingly, I have listened to this album front to back a couple of times since it was released in January and it's still a fun album overall. It does have its weaker moments with songs like 'Miss Me' and '50-50', but overall it is an enjoyable album with some great songs.

Favorite songs: 'Who I Am', 'Freelance', 'Ordinary Pleasure'

Catfish and the Bottlemen - The Balance
92

don't care what anyone says. catchy songs throughout the album. I've had almost every song on repeat.

Now to be serious, this is the first Catfish album I have listened to all the way through. I have no doubt that this album sounds just like their other 2 albums, but I can't complain too much. I do hope to see some new ideas in their next album, but they excel at making incredibly catchy songs and if they never change their style I won't be too mad.
