The Melodic Blue served as the foundation for continued growth as an artist in future progress, and was a building block for the more consistent follow up project Casino. Favorite songs included south africa, 16, and scars.
Road Trips and the occasional interesting house beat keep this from being a zero
This album about lived up to my expectations. Given that he divided his release into three albums this album is mainly Drake focusing on rap, and it mostly works. There’s some skips but there’s also a lot of great songs like Dust, Whisper My Name, and National Treasures. Overall a pretty good album that is also getting overhated on
Any minor flaws that Stick Season had have absolutely been corrected on this project The Great Divide. This was my most anticipated album of the year and it absolutely delivered, as it’s my current favorite project to release this year. Kahan captures the emotional void he feels as he tries to maintain his former personality despite his new found fame, and how empty it can make him feel to have such pivotal relationships in his life grow apart. The central message is relatable and ... read more
This is easily one of my favorite Drake albums. This project feels like it was from the time when Drake was the most tapped into his sound, and was a great follow up to the equally strong Take Care. Hold On We’re Going Home is still one of my favorite Drake songs to this day, and relistening to this album ahead of Iceman showed me just how much talent Drake truly has
Other than Sweater Weather this album is mostly just mediocre pop slop that doesn’t have much relistening value
A great indie rock record that doesn’t have any misses. From the very first song Watch Your Mouth the album hooked me and kept my attention from start to finish. We need more Backseat Lovers music, as they haven’t dropped since 2022. Favorite songs include Watch Your Mouth, Maple Syrup, Kilby Girl, and basically every single other song on this record
Sgt Pepper is such a unique and groundbreaking project for its time. The theme of the album is that the whole record is like a live performance by a fictional band in front of a bar audience, and how the Beatles structure the album to fit this is incredibly unique and captivating. Some of the Beatle’s best songs are on this record, including With A Little Help From My Friends and A Day In The Life. I debated whether to give the album a 9 or a 10, as Mr Kite is pretty bland and Within You ... read more
A masterpiece of its time, Radiohead’s 2nd album Ok Computer is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. The songwriting and storytelling is some of the best in rock, as the band discusses their fear of the incoming technological age and AI. This album proves why Radiohead is definitively one of the best bands of all time. Favorite tracks are Let Down, Karma Police, Exit Music, and Lucky
Given the recent success of Choosin Texas (how that song is still number one on the charts is beyond me) I’m sure this album will be more fondly received than it deserves. For me it’s just fine I guess. There’s really nothing special beyond a strong start with Dandelion and Choosin Texas, and even those are just solid at best. Ella really doesn’t expand on her sound on this record, and while no tracks are overtly offensive or annoying not much stands out either. Nothing ... read more
Another success from Olivia Rodrigo, GUTS is a well produced and innovative pop album released in 2023. The production was very clearly stepped up on this album, and the writing is very much more complex than SOUR. At the same time, I still can’t decide which of the two albums I prefer since SOUR still provides intriguing and simplistic melodies that stick with you for a while. Overall though, Rodrigo clearly has a talent for making music and I’m very excited for her new project to ... read more
I did not expect this album to be as good as it is, but this record is near perfect. Sour primarily uses pop ballads to convey feelings of emotional loss, and doesn’t miss. This is one of the better debuts I’ve heard, and makes me excited for Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming project releasing this summer. Favorites include traitor, drivers license, and brutal
This project feels like the moment where Kanye began to lose his vision in song writing. This album feels very thrown together and inconsistent, and lacks a central sound and purpose connecting each track. This record’s highs are incredibly high, as Jail and Moon are two of Kanye’s best tracks he’s ever made. Yet overall this seemed like the beginning of the end for Kanye, and was a disappointment for his first full length album in 5 years
DeAnn was Zach Bryan’s first ever album, made in Jacksonville, Florida while he was serving in the Navy and heavily inspired by his mother, who passed away in 2016. This album is just packed with emotion, as there’s no advanced production or elements to this project, it’s just Bryan’s raw vocals, a guitar, and his emotions. God Speed is a special song, and may be the most emotional is Bryan’s whole career. This album truly is a hidden gem on the Bryan discography, ... read more
One of the first and most popular bands to emerge in the post-grunge era, 3 Doors Down rode the success of their strong debut with a second LP Away From The Sun. This album continues the same kind of vibe as the first record with a more refined sound, and contains some of the bands best songs. Tracks like Here Without You, When I’m Gone, and Going Down In Flames are some of my favorite of the post-grunge era, and demonstrate the late Brad Arnold’s true talent for songwriting
While Elisabeth is in my opinion Zach Bryan’s weakest album, this record is by no means bad. This album feels like an acoustic version of a Zach Bryan greatest hits playlist, and almost takes listeners back to Bryan’s roots of songwriting with just a guitar and his voice. Obviously the standout track is Revival, which is easily one of the best tracks Bryan has ever made and has quickly become the closer to Bryan’s concerts while on tour. This album more than any other has a ... read more
I came into this album extremely skeptical, and I’m so happy I was dead wrong. The old Kanye I loved so much is back on this new record Bully, and it’s easily his best album since 2016’s The Life Of Pablo in my mind. Tracks like All The Love, King, This One Here, and Mama’s Favorite are some of the best Kanye songs I’ve heard in years, and it’s clear Kanye actually had some passion in this project unlike some prior projects. Bully absolutely blows the ... read more
This is possibly Kanye’s most experimental album we’ve seen, and it also may be his best. Kanye just sets the stage perfectly, as the whole album just feels like one big sunset drive as we journey through the wild and unhinged life of Kanye West. Kanye explores the challenges he’s faced to get to where he is, and the mental toll fame has had on him (which has become even more apparent since this album’s release). Throw in one of the best songs of this millennium as the ... read more
While I’m not as high on this album as some, it definitely is still a great record. Folklore truly is just some of the best writing and lyricism we’ve seen from Taylor to date. Songs like Betty, August, and Cardigan are so beautifully written and use metaphors and fables to communicate the message Taylor wants to get across. I think this album is slightly overrated too often, as despite their clear differences in my mind this album is pretty similar in quality to Evermore in my ... read more
