Fun fact: 'Bodega' in portuguese means 'Wine cellar', and this weird coincidence encapsulates the male vocalist performance so well: that guy must had drank too much Porto to create a bunch of tracks with minimal lyricism and generic singing performance.
Though, kudos for the female vocalist, specially on the track 'Territorial'.
Ok I get that Jenny Hval tries to innovate during the songs but something's lacking in it. The only exception for me was 'Cemetery of Splendour' that actually is successful on that matter.
Mid album, average ambient smooth pop experience
Uninspired electropop, but the point I particularly disliked the most was the production: pain to my ears
An album of J-Pop that was so good to the point that i started to vibe to the tracks without even knowing what the singers were saying
Basically brazilian funk but in english and with some bits of electro and auto-tune.
Yep, dreadful
What an incredible album!
Totally delighted with all that Shamir delivered: spectacular composition, top-notch vocal performance, outstanding production on most occasions and incredible consistency in the musical quality of each track.
Another detail worth mentioning is the chills I felt derived from the artist's singing on 'Cisgender': it certainly made the track one of my favourites this February.
Hoping Shamir keeps up the great work :)
In this LP, alt-J promised a lot with the intros 'Bane' and 'U&ME', but ends up failing to meet the level that would make a top album.
Unfortunately, from track 3 onwards, no song brought any emotion comparable to the initials, with the exception of the magnificent 'Philadelphia'. Well, too bad a song isn't enough to make an album, Coldplay knows it very well and appears that alt-J learned it too.
Fun album, but nothing special.
'The Hardest Cut' going to my top musics of February playlist
