Northern Transmissions
Their sound is contagious and replayable, and though the songs go by quickly, they are packed with intricate parts that belie their brevity.

Beats Per Minute

To listen to Visitor is to imagine sitting on a park bench in a dilapidated post-apocalyptic Times Square overgrown with greenery and just soaking in the sounds of nature without any pollution or man-made noise.

82
Paste

Despite recording in a studio with a producer, the Philly band still thrive when their seams are showing.

80
Under the Radar
Though the album might not have any kind of clear fully-formed artistic mantra, it does offer a thrilling, acute feedback loop of a band rapidly reinventing and evolving.
80
Uncut

A wondrous, modernist mix of LiLiPUT, Hüsker Du and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Mojo

The sleeve of Visitor is а handsome portrait of the interior of a hipster house. The paintwork is rose pink and margarine yellow, all the doors are ajar, but the house is empty and has a sinister chill about it. Which is the exact opposite feeling you get listening to the album.

80
Distorted Sound

Visitor captures emotions and the way we react to them in a full spectrum of colour, moving away from the fairly two dimensional monochrome approach, as nothing is inherently sad or happy.

God Is in the TV

It’s all about atmosphere, depth of feelings and flowing in and out of your comfort zone with this latest album by Empath.

70
Gigwise
The incendiary intro that carries throughout, is the staple to a listening experience that it is as inventive as it is deranged in parts.

Pitchfork
The second album from the Philadelphia noise-pop band comes with some great new sounds, but dials down some of the thrill and fervor that made their debut so exceptional.

I can’t really pinpoint what is lacking in this newest release from Philly noise pop group Empath, but it’s just not grabbing me the same way their 2019 album Active Listening: Night on Earth did. The energy is still there with Garrett Koloski’s wild drumming and Catherine Elicson manic vocal being the loudest thing in the mix and catchy hook still grabbing me from the 2 minute peppiness of “Born 100 Times” or those striking guitar lines of “Elvis Comeback ... read more

Damn this album is chaos and, even though it has some cool moments, it does not live up to be that well put together.

There's a lot to like about this album, but a lot I really didn't like too. The theme and concept are cool, and it's a really fun and nostalgic album that is easy to jam out too. However, it's damn near impossible to tell what the singer is saying most the time. I also was just uncomfortable with the weird quashing sound effect that was repeated - maybe it's supposed to represent an alien walking around or something, but it sounded like that weird felty sound you get ... read more

I liked it first listen but the second time is just incredibly boring and not much really happens, again another boring indie rock album
