This is okay, but it still kinda just sounds really like bog standard nu-metal with some industrial influences thrown in. The first two tracks are solid, even if the album proper makes way too much of their connections with Jonathan Davis and Fred Durst. I'd rather listen to Pitchshifter, but if you'd want an album with even more of a nu influence, I guess this isn't all too bad.
Phantasmagore isn't bad. In fact, this album in a vacuum is honestly a pretty solid mid-2000s rock record. Honestly, though, I really liked the more synth-heavy sound Commencement offered in comparison. That album sounded incredibly unique and interesting and was right up my alley, while Phantasmagore almost sounds like Deadsy doing butt-rock at times like they're really desperate to get on circa-2006 rock radio. However, the songs here are still much superior to the actual ... read more
Oh GOD Yes dared to make an exemplary 80s pop rock album with awesome hooks and great guitar work and overall incredibly fun and strong pop songwriting. We must declare this the absolute worst thing ever recorded because this isn't Close to the Edge pt. 2. Worst album EVER.
There was nothing like being in high school when If You're Reading This, It's Too Late came out. I remember people freaking out about the surprise drop and the memes and everyone bumping this back in the day. He's still a big name, but there's a difference between pop sellout Drake and what Drake used to be that people forget. He used to kind of be seen as a lovable loser, believe it or not, and even though this was kind of the start of him trying to act harder and tougher, ... read more
I appreciate that bieber went out and did something new but god this ACTUALLY put me to sleep and I can't remember a single song except the last one. I legitimately laid down in bed and ended up falling asleep to this album because it's so monotonous and one note. Good sleep aid tho
I'd rather listen to Charles Manson, GG Allin, or Blood on the Dance Floor than this artistically vacant slop. Fuck this shit.
Total Devo is good, actually! Devo's first album in four years and their first for Enigma Records, it's seen as perhaps their worst album - and it didn't really do well for them commercially, even with an official release on DAT. (They actually did that.) I dunno, though, I just feel that these songs are mostly genuinely good. After Shout, which in my opinion is a great album but largely sounds like Mark Mothersbaugh's Adventures with the Fairlight CMI, Total Devo actually ... read more
I'm kind of conflicted.
I'm probably the one person who genuinely loves WE, Arcade Fire's previous album. In fact, it's one of my favorite records of the decade so far. It encompasses everything Arcade Fire does so well in 40 minutes, and the negative reception to it still somewhat confuses me. By the time WE released, Arcade Fire were not the cool, hip band they were in 2004, or even really critically acclaimed anymore - they'd won a Grammy for The Suburbs in 2011, ... read more
This song is amazing, and even the pretty awful sounding screen recorded version from Reddit made me tear up. I know this is immediately going to get hate and the obligatory "anything Arcade Fire has done after 2010 is trash!!!" comments, and sure - I hope the mix does sound a bit better when I can actually listen to it directly, but this song is gorgeous and actually really vulnerable which is a nice change of pace from Year of the Snake. I can easily feel myself listening to this ... read more
"Yeah okay that's kind of an insane rating for Matchbox fucking Twenty" yeah no, I'm tired of faking it. Matchbox Twenty is amazing and their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, is full of bangers. "Back 2 Good" is legitimately one of the very best songs of the 90s, and I /mean/ that. Rob Thomas is a gift, and when he's gone everyone is going to remember how good of a songwriter and a singer he really was. Matchbox Twenty's first three albums were ... read more
“Year of the Snake”, the first single off the new Arcade Fire album Pink Elephant, has definitely really grown on me. It wasn’t immediate but I love the production and the sound palette and the way it builds up toward the end - plus Régine & Win’s vocals sound great together. I think if there’s any issue with this song, it just sounds a lot more like a deep cut than anything.
I’m honestly really hyped for the new Arcade Fire album even though a ... read more
On first listen, Forever Howlong is definitely good but personally it kinda gets way too Masterpiece Theatery for me at points. I do love the opening songs though
It’s kind of easy to hate on Katy Perry right now and this song isn’t the best thing ever but I kinda like the instrumental to this ngl and Doechii did a good job…
Rated this specifically because I’m the 500th person to rate this song.
It’s a 9. No matter how much it gets overplayed, this song is still wonderful and a whole lot of fun.
This may be one of the most underrated rap albums - or even one of the most underrated albums I’ve ever heard. Logic’s marked farewell to chasing commercial success, No Pressure, has to be of my favorite albums of the decade so far and it’s probably my favorite Logic album - a powerful, emotional look back at one man’s dreams coming to fruition yet all the while growing up and realizing what his life truly means.
Weezer's third album, also known as the Green Album, was singer-songwriter Rivers Cuomo's attempt to basically reboot the band after the relative failure of their previous album, Pinkerton, at the time. Green is basically the anti-Pinkerton, and it shows in every way possible. Although Pinkerton had begun to gain a cult following at that point, the nature of Green was something that was needed anyway to revitalize their career on a commercial level - even if it's not as ... read more
Daniel Powter: a name with staying power. That didn't happen.
Everybody seems to hate "Bad Day", but I don't. I was 6 years old when Taylor Hicks won the 6th season of American Idol, perhaps maybe the last example of true event TV in the US, and every time somebody was voted off, that song would play. You'd see people in tears because the dream they'd worked so hard for was over, unless their name was Chris Daughtry, and Daniel Powter would be the soundtrack to ... read more

The debut album from Britpop outfit Marion is energetic and focused and most of it is actually pretty solid, but for most of its runtime it doesn't really want to switch up its formula. Of course, there's genres where I wouldn't particularly mind every song being a fast, high energy barn-burner, but the best Britpop albums seem to have more variety than this. Maybe it'll grow on me with time, though.
Recommended if you like your Britpop with a bit of an ... read more
