billy woods - GOLLIWOG

absolutely haunting, jesus christ. Powerful stuff.

Bon Iver - SABLE, fABLE

This album touches me in all the right spots.

Oklou - choke enough

Laying in bed at 4 am, waking up saying to myself: "Strawberry dancer. Vanilla summer. Driver pull over. Ice cream truck"

I love this cute lil early 2000s alt-pop electronic album it makes me :3

Everything about the album screams to me in nostalgia and beautiful electronic melodies with goofy sounds that stick with me long after I listened. The singing is so light. The production is so fun. This album was made for me.

I love love: thank you for recording

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA

this shit iS Horneeee and I'm so into it lmao.

Incredible incredible music videos and signing voice, but my god the production is producting.

"Sticky" is my favorite song by a mile, but I think it's my song of the year currently. It's that good.
Great great album.

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
89

very very much enjoy this one. Kendrick shows that he still has such a great way of telling stories, making hits and pushing the edge of what is comfortable. I really love "reincarnated" not only for the reuse of a classic 2pac beat but also telling such a compelling story through the eyes of multiple perspectives. Then right after that is "TV off" which seems like he was saying "look, I can make another 'not like us' if I feel like it." This song is so ... read more

My god...

Bon Iver - SABLE,
100

GOAT SHIT. Succinct, powerful, devastating, hopeful.
Sounds like Justin is finding a new version of himself and confronting his old demons. A lot of power in this new release. It doesn't need to say much more than these three songs.
That Pedal steel guitar. That sax solo. That acapella on "Awards Season".
Much love for the blunt honesty, the direct words used, and the subtle hope behind it all. I love it.

Mac Miller - Watching Movies with the Sound Off
82

This is my first Mac album, so I didn't really know what to expect. I know a lot of people really love him, so I had a high opinion going in. Man he's a lot better than I knew or expected. I mean to produce and rap on your own album and crush it like he did was sick. He's def struggling with a lot of stuff here and obviously it caught up to him in the end. He has great lyricism, flow and sense of music in general. RIP.

Jamie xx - In Waves
86

Jamie xx puts out some heaters with incredible samples and danceable groove on this lengthy release. This is the first project by Jamie I have listened to and I have been spinning this one all week. I was really intrigued by the samples on here. Especially on all you children. That vocal sample is killer. Uhhh what else. I really like breather, found it in a time when I needed it. It felt like one of those headspace meditation app exercises but with a beat lol. "Life" was very fun ... read more

Solange - When I Get Home
76

Solange has been on the fringe of my music tastes for a bit now. I had a few songs by her in my space, but never listened to a full album. This is very artsy. Her background really sings through in the decisions made lyrically and sonically. This album is definitely not geared toward me, which is why I think it was a difficult concept for me to grasp as a white person. But I took the time to understand what made the album great, what she had said about the album herself, and what was behind the ... read more

Bon Iver - S P E Y S I D E
91

This is really raw, vulnerable, and personal from Justin. I really love it. The song is very straightforward. Easy to understand what is going on in the lyrics from the very first listen. I feel like we haven't gotten that honesty from Justin in a long while. Good stuff.

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
79

Really raw album that has some really great highs in the start and mellows out to flyover songs on the back half. The instrumentation is stellar and the mixing was really well done. The drums sound so nice on this thing I can't stop gushing over it. Definitely a good listen, but won't return for a while.

Yvette Young - Always
75

Yvette shows off her singing voice while still keeping some of her signature math rock riffs and plucky tones. Lots of shimmering synths overlaying this one. Can be a bit busy, but I like the direction. Everything might have a bit too much reverb.

billy woods & Kenny Segal - Maps
84

This album is like lofi beats to rap to. Billy seems depressed as hell or just introspective about it all.
He has this filter on that views everything in a pretty negative mindset. I guess you could call it keeping it real.
I love the production and Billy has some insanely good and thoughtful bars. One of the better hip-hop albums I've heard this year.
There are moments in the album that really stood out to me like how much he talks about his travel, the lavish life he's living, and ... read more

Fred again.. - ten days

Freddiiiiiiiieeee

This is fun, heartfelt and consistent album. Fred has a great ability to bring emotion through his tunes. He definitely has something to say through his music and he's one of the better house musicians at speaking through the medium. The singles were some of my favorite tracks on here but there were some great surprises like "peace u need". I think that track along with "adore u" and "places to be" really round out the "best ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

OKAY!!!!

No idea who this group was before I listened but gee gosh golly wowzers zoinks. Uh yeah this thing is jam packed with incredibly creative production. Just production choices alone really skyrocket the album into something unique. The lead singer's voice is playful and sticks with you. A lot of great songs on here across the 15 tracks. I have been enjoying the albums from this year which have been on the shorter side, because it seems as though some groups want to fill out an ... read more
